as I have explained before my videos were not edited by me and i would have fixed things that have been pointed out...that I see now may need to be redone
JC obviously had the Son mixed with Con , but do not try to give an explaination which is even more wrong. The son is the traditional music style of Cuba. Usuallu played with bongoes, bass, singing and tres.
Now the goal of this video is to explain the son clave and it actually does the work no?no?
From my understanding the word son comes from the spanish word sonido - which means sound. And to add a coment to what GringoSalsero said, Its spelled the same but is another word, it translates to "they are", the word is present tense, "to be" is future.
This is an excellent video even if he gets the Spanish a little oops. I was reading about clave at Wikipedia but my music reading is pretty rudimentary, and for syncopated music it's nonexistent. Having something to listen to, and having him count it out, nice and slow for dunderheads like me, is perfect. Thank you JC!
the translation of son is ''are'' as in ''ellos son patos'' they ARE ....ducks : )~ . Un son is also a style of cuban music . this video is still excellent and the music even more excellent .
another point I forgot to add, this person is either not a spanish speaker or he hasn't spoken spanish in a long long time. The way he pronounces clave in spanish would be spelled "clafe" . There's no difference whatsoever between the sound of "v" or "b" are the same in spanish.
Thank you!..my name is "JC" Johnny Conga i never got to edit these videos after they were shot or take it to what you recommend. But by all means put your explanation of clave on youtube as well..

son is a plural form of the verb ser - to be
@pgan002 - sonido - sound
con - with
@pgan002 - I hope your sn doesn't mean you're a Pagan..God said you should have no other gods before me. Jesus Christ is Lord.

It's called "Syncopation". 4/4 sounding like 3/4. Standard latin Rythem!

Check out your spanish knowledge. "Son" does not mean "with", if that is the word you say in english.
"Son" means "sound", from the word "sonido" or "sonoridad"
A "sonero" is a cuban singer who makes his vocal cords sound.

Agreed, the guy in the video doesn't have it right. "Son" means sound or ryhtmical melody

Good foundation. What the instructors name?
How about doing some long recordings of the four main individual Clave rhythms. With the count and with out. 10 minutes each would be super.
Thank you for contributions towards the growth of Afro Cuban and Latin Percussion etc...
P.S. People post your Afro Cuban and Latin Percussion rhythms on youtube!
Thank you,
