  • A true road circuit, gorgeous in its lack of safety and protection. On is struck by how primitive the coopers and brabhams are. These early 1964 cars are really no more than 1960 Cooper lowlines and very unsophisticated compared with a Lotus 25, Eric Broadleys 1962 Lola or a 1963 Ferrari. The cars designed under Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren were never more than workmans garagemechancics effort and the Brabhams and McLarens only beome sophisticated with other designers after 1971.

  • Seat belts? Naah, that's for pussies. They thought it preferable to die quickly tossed against a tree, than burn in agony in the car's wreckage.

  • Thank you for posting this. I used to go to Longford every year from 1960 until the last race in 1968 and I actually saw myself in this clip. I remember the race well. 1964 was the year that the American, Timmy Mayer, died in practice. His car became airborne off the hump that can be seen in the scenes at Longford corner and hit a tree. The car split in two. He was Bruce McLaren's team mate which is why he started at the back of the grid as he hadn't set a practice time.

  • Some people do not know the history and comment accordingly,SAD.

My father raced Motobikes there in the late 50,s.

He was still alive till late last year.
