Two problems with that: 1) Growing marijuana is nothing like making moonshine. How much easier it is to grow a weed, than to build a distillery in your home? 2) Poor quality moonshine could cause blindness, I don't think marijuana does the same. Not saying it will happen, but they are two very different things.

Weed is sold for an inflated price right now. If it were legal to grow commercially, it could be grown in large fields, using modern farming techniques. The resulting weed would be plentiful, cheap and of a reasonably high quality. Some people might grow their own, but most would rather just go to the store. Home growing would become the domain of hobbyists, much like home brewing or gardening.

The problem I have with legalizing Marijuana is it's difference to alcohol. I can't get drunk if I smell alcohol, but if I happen to be somewhere marijuana's smoked I'm assuming I could get high off the smell if I stayed there long enough.

The effects of marijuana travel too easily thorugh the air as opposed to the containment of alcohol in a bottle.

I think there is enough demand for both industries.
