I remember reading many years ago, after "Stay in Love" was released Richard Rudolph saying the note on "Could it Be I'm in Love," was her longest note recorded. I don't know, wanted to know which is true. I do know her live performance of "Could it be I'm in Love" is what what made me really like the song. Her live version was incredible. (She opened for George Benson at the Paramount ).

Minnie is the best at this high octave game. She's the starter and all these new singers are just coming on and off the bench for some glory and record sells during half time. Minnie the beauty, the classy, the natural voice user, the mother, the great. You stand in a league of your own, the others can try but they can't beat you, they can make the machine try to but never can do you themselves.

What I always loved about Minnie Riperton, is what you heard on wax, was what you got on stage. She was the real deal who had total control of her instrument, and her lows were just as beautiful as her uppper register. She also had the ability to enunciate words while singing those incredible notes. One of kind, is what she was. I've missed her for a long, long time.

I used to go to the Rotary Connection concerts at the Electic Theater in Chicago just to hear Rippleton hold notes during "Sweet Lady Jane" and other songs. Some much longer than 25 seconds. Thanks for the memories, from the studio albums, but the live shows. . . .
