I remember reading many years ago, after "Stay in Love" was released Richard Rudolph saying the note on "Could it Be I'm in Love," was her longest note recorded. I don't know, wanted to know which is true. I do know her live performance of "Could it be I'm in Love" is what what made me really like the song. Her live version was incredible. (She opened for George Benson at the Paramount ).
The shot of her grave at the end of part one got me crying through part two. She was the first female outspoken on behalf of breast cancer, according to Wikipedia...
Minnie is the best at this high octave game. She's the starter and all these new singers are just coming on and off the bench for some glory and record sells during half time. Minnie the beauty, the classy, the natural voice user, the mother, the great. You stand in a league of your own, the others can try but they can't beat you, they can make the machine try to but never can do you themselves.
What I always loved about Minnie Riperton, is what you heard on wax, was what you got on stage. She was the real deal who had total control of her instrument, and her lows were just as beautiful as her uppper register. She also had the ability to enunciate words while singing those incredible notes. One of kind, is what she was. I've missed her for a long, long time.
Thanks so much for posting this...Minnie was the MASTER of hitting the whistle and beyond it seemed....I LURVE how she can still enunciate words at that high a note....and WOW...the LONG notes.
I used to go to the Rotary Connection concerts at the Electic Theater in Chicago just to hear Rippleton hold notes during "Sweet Lady Jane" and other songs. Some much longer than 25 seconds. Thanks for the memories, from the studio albums, but the live shows. . . .
hey! i have seen your videos lots of times, and i've gave you a lot of stars, so please, can you send me all of those images that u have? contact me user
Today it would have been her 60th Birthday (November 8, 1947 -- July 12, 1979). Deep respect for this voice, quality of singing and deep emotionality. - And hey, Minnie-Baby: You still enjoy us with your hot stoff. The young generation of "wanna become a star" still can take as an excelent example, what's world class R&B. - Keep you ever in mind & heart...
Also another clip which would've been cool to share is the one of Minnie singing with the elephant on the Rotary Connection Lp "Aladdin" -- it's featured on the third track which I believe is Teach Me How to fly".
I don't have my LP with me off hand, and so I can't tell for sure which song the elephant call is on. It's awesome!
could u test it twice. i just want to make sure? please. wow C8. she was truly the queen of the whistle register. betty and mariah are more like the princesses.
lol. thanks wow. i always knew she could go higher. when she hits notes theres not a trace of strain on her face. imagine if she did train 12th octave lol. i sent u a personnel message could you check out just now.
I'm still astounded by Minnie's reach in "Teach Me How To Fly." And, what's delightful is that no matter how wildly high she sang, it never seemed that she was trying to show off. It was innocent, like a child having a good time!
Personally, I think some of Minnie's most impressive displays of vocal ability and control can be found on the track-- "How Could I Love You More?" on the "Stay in Love" LP.
mistermilkman and sparks0245 it warms my heart to know that someone here loves good music and a flawless voice. she reaches these notes with ease so imagine if she really would have cut lose

Oh yeah, I'm not one of those 16 year olds that listen to older music and try to kill myself. I love older music thats back when pretty much all songs had meaning, now it seems like their all about the same stuff all the time and that gets boring.
i love can you feel what i'm saying.she could growl sing low and everything. she was and still is amazing. she sounds like a bird

OMG Some of her high notes are just sloppy as hell. Like at 2:34, what the hell? And 2:53, some of these are just bad, but she's still amazing.
