  • Is that Backdrifts by Radiohead that I hear in the intro to all of your videos?

  • @skwerlfish33 No, its the same sample CD sample that they used.

  • @sonicstate Oh interesting, I didn't know it was a sample.

  • how about 5/4?

  • can you connect this to the ns6? please answer

  • how do i format the fucking sd card. can someone tell me if its really suppost to take forever -___-

  • I don't really get the beatmapping right, can someone please help me?

  • is this good to have with the tracktor kontrol S4? im just wondering if it makes a good combo or is it better alone, or if the tracktor kontrol S4 can already do what the pad does

  • Can someone please send me some info on exactly how to map a midi keyboard to the kaos pro using logic. I have the same setup as the guy in the video.,For some reason I'm not getting it right. I've been up day and night trying to figure this out. I appreciate the help in advance. email to: elevatedraps@yahoo.com.. subject - kaos midi. thanks.

  • I have a question, can you somehow record a sound , for example my guitar, and then use the Kaossilator pro vocoder on the loop I've recorded?

  • I can't download the Kaossilator Pro editor, how come? Thanks in advance!

  • thumbs up if u think Korg should release a Kaoss pad version for the iPad

  • Does the X-Y pad only output midi data based on an X-Y axis or can the individual columns be mapped as faders? how about all the little rectangles? can they be mapped as individual buttons?

  • TRON

  • I have the same MIDI clocking trouble with my KP3. It doesnt stay in sync when it recieves PLAY messages. Thankyou for covering this. Looking forward to more videos

  • kaos pro was made for beardyman lol ...

  • Does this have built in speakers?

  • @madmanmerrill It doesn't.

  • Tetris.

  • Can you use the pad to control effects within a DAW such as a gate that work on an XY axis?

  • 2:04 Just figured out its not multi-touch.

  • thanx,my favourite review-er:)

  • @sonicstate do you think it would be possible to use the korg nanokey to control the ko-pro because the nanokey has that cc mode setting on it?

  • Easy to use?

  • Also, I'd really like to see Korg release an iPad app for this kinda like they have done with the Electribe. The iPad is the perfect interface to really take advantage of this.

  • I really want of of these with my acoustic guitar as a fun "band in a box" type setup to add some cool drums, bass, and synth to my guitar; but I really wanna go play with one to see how it works before I buy.

  • is there an Align function like there is the KP3?

  • Has anybody else had a problem with the sound output from sounds that are put through input? such as me putting my microkorg into input but the sound only coming out of my right speaker and not the left, but the sounds from the kpro itself come through both, as they do if i was to play the microkorg on its own through the speakers.

  • what do the firmware upgrades from the Korg website do?

  • I like the second long clip of Backdrifts at the beginning.

  • MIDI misery

MIDI compatibility was one of the main features we thought would improve the Kaossilator, so the arrival of MIDI ports on the Pro got us seriously excited. Unfortunately, it doesn't support standard note data. The X-Y coordinates are instead sent and received as CC values, meaning that if you want to play the internal synth instruments using a MIDI controller or DAW you'll need to find a way of converting notes to CC.

    DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Is there a way to increase the number of loop recording buttons?

Can nanoKontrol work as a loop recorder or do I need to save my Kaos Pro loops to the SD card, transfer to my pc and than assign them to each channel of the nanoKontrol?

  • omfg want. its like instant goodness you can add to a hallow song

  • Too bad Korg is slacking with their USB-drivers, so updating your computer causes all sorts of trouble with Korg gear... I havent had a working computer-connection between my computer and my microsampler for the past 3 months because the USB-driver is outdated... Korg are aware of the problem and doing nothing - or well, they deleted the notice about the problem from their website...

  • Could you connect the Kaossilator Pro to the RC-30 loopstation?

  • looks like he said zephyr or something similar?

  • nice review! Cool if you did a review on the teenage op-1 synth:D if you manage to get one:P

  • Thanks man, very good info!

  • Can't wait till a workstation version........seeing the midi side of it, I now know it just a kp3 with lest of the effects and more of the synth......still a great unit for live play in a studio but it would be handy to be able to sequence it with my mv

  • Could you possibly make a video explaining how to set midi up with Kaossilator. I'm trying to get it set up with my MicroKorg and am having some difficulties

  • do you think you could tell me if i can link an Ehx 2880 with a KP3 and a Kaossilator Pro, to all sync time/loop/quantize?

  • God! even more functions... I love these!

  • I love the fact at 08:38 the screen looks like it says Poo!

  • Great Stuff!!

  • Great review. :)

  • hey i was thinking of buying one of these or the KORG Kaoss Pad KP3 can you tell me what the difference is between these two and what i need to hook it up to a keyboard and if it needs to be a special kind of keyboard or any other info you think i would need to know

  • Just purchased the kaos pro and the kp3. Looking forward to hooking them up to my Axiom 61 and playing with them. :)

  • the new kaossilator they come out with should have an x-y-z pad! a holographic 3d display that senses your hand in a cube and adjusts the sound based on your hand in 3d space. do it

  • @heyshutupyou i want that to happen so i can wave my hand about to make dubstep

however the kaoss pad is XYZ already but eh Z varible is the amount of pressure u place on the pad the value changes from 0 if your not touching it up too 100 if you press really hard

  • @heyshutupyou its called Max/MSP + Wiimote + M4L. While this isn't korg or kaoss, its how you would/can do this now

  • @heyshutupyou OR the third dimension could be velocity/aftertouch :D

  • Comment removed

  • I think im going to get one of these for xmas!

  • @JackovdaBoro me 2!

  • 04:46 you can clearly hear their edit "sd card" I wonder what he really said :D

  • @juuse94 haha i noticed that!

  • looks like he lipped zephyr or something similar?

  • @juuse94 Flashdrive was what he said, I read his lips ;P

  • @juuse94 Just a poor edit there. He said SD card. Probably an accidental trim.

  • @juuse94 thumb drive.

  • Should i get this or the microkorg synth?

  • And KP can load loops from sd card?

  • Hello I got the question about how many loops I can load to KP from computer

    Please help

  • i have a kaossilator pro and i want to be able to tap tempo my own loops from my DAW without altering the pitch...anyone know how i could do this?

  • I didn't get if the Kpro is able to send midi clock and midi start/stop messages....

  • Great Review, and I'm totally with your opnion about the midi thing. i hope taht korg puts out an update or something to make it possible.

  • Excellent review. Thanks. :)

  • does any1 knw if you can create your own patches? and can you record your loops directly into a daw? thanx

  • does any1 knw if you can create your own patches? and can you record your loops directly into a daw? thanx

  • dang this guy really knows his shit.

  • Do you have to get the KOPRO plugged into your PC/MAC and map it through Logic everytime you will play "real" notes with MIDI on your MIDI keyboard, or do you just have to map it once and then it don't need to be plugged into a PC/MAC, and how do you save the map then? I really think to get a Kaossilator Pro, but if I can't play its tunes through a MIDI keyboard, I'm not sure to get one...

  • I would play with this thing all day everyday, i'd never sleep. I want one =]

  • is there a simular product that you can hook a keyboard up to ?

  • 2 persons who rated this, are tuba players

  • Best Kaossilator vid to date. Much thanks.

One question; I know you explained it pretty well, but I am not getting the part where you triggered the Kaossilator loops with the keyboard. Are you saying that you cannot connect a trigger directly to the Kaossilator to do this and you must assign each individual loop to a different key as well?

    Thank you

  • dont forget your can record through the MIDI Input aswell

  • Pro is simply a phrase sampler to hook up to MIDI and use for modulation check out KP3.

  • Old Kaossilator was a toy? LOL!!!

    /watch?v=snAwFo8JZgA

  • hi! could u tell me why my tap tempo button is flashing red while other videos show it flashing green? idk what to do and i have ocd with colors and i need to have everytihng the same lol. could you help me?

  • I tried it out, and wasn't impressed. The KO-1 is much better. No gate and arp? that is just stupid. The whole point of the gate/arp presets was to be able to get really tight drum patterns(when not using loops). It also doesn't have the alternate mode featuress - ie: the buffering and *recording stuttering* in realtime.

They should've made the KOpro just like the KO-1 but with a memory card, and the ability to edit/change/save/load presets.

    not a massive improvement, it's a dud.

  • how can I use my guitar with this, do I connect it through mic input?

  • Thank you. Best video of this err... thing. I've seen on this internet thing. I going to get one now.

  • Thanks a lot for this video. you guys really helped me out! I am using the midi clock function as a master clock controller. i sync it up to my electribe. im still trying to figure out how i can get it to master control ableton live via midi. then i can (hopefully in the future) clock it to control both drum machines, ableton live and use the bridge by serato to control my dj file. its all part of the future that i so look forward to every time i get in the mix. get @ ya boi. -n visible

  • I might get this despite the crappy "want list" and "my god why dont you have this" and "damnit why did you put these controls back there when I use them all the time?" comments on the their forums.

  • 8:08 Well said on the KOPro/MIDI controller interface! I hope they include a feature in the next generation.

  • Very informative under the hood look - thanks Nick! why put midi in/out in if you are not going to implement note data and no song start is just careless.

cmon Korg, you say you are listening...firmware update?

  • You map the notes on your computer to the KOPRO by using a program, but how does the KOPRO know that? I really don't understand it... :/

  • Could you please make a dedicated video on the midi system you have done because it seems very complicated and I really want this aplication so could you explain how you have done it and maybe with a program that is not logic and go into more detail as I don't know if you are doing this through a computer of just using the acable but with the changes settings

Thanks this would be really helpful

  • So can I use the x/y midi input in logic? Because having a touch pad hooked up to some parameters in logic would be so epic for making dubstep :D

  • korg's ds10 had a synch function in its multiplayer, strange they wouldn't provide something through the midi for the kpro

  • Great video. Thanks for making this.

  • i want a Kaossilator that i can walk on. like tom hanks with the piano, in the movie Big. that would be awesome.

  • would it be possible for you to somehow further explain how to assign the notes on a midi controller so that i can control the sounds from the koassilator with the midi controller?

  • would it be possible for you to somehow further explain how to assign the notes on a midi controller so that i can control the sounds from the koassilator with the midi controller?

  • excellent tutorial/review

  • 340€ for this?... it still seems as a toy, not a synth at all... pay 100€ more and you can get a nice dave smith synth, or a nice digital polivalent synth...

  • @mynmyself Well not everyone can afford a DSI and the K-pro really is a nice piece of gear -not to be underestimated. If you want to see the thing being used to create a complete song you should look up the "Jam on2Kaossilators" vid, by agent of kaoss, I believe.

  • @dudewhosaysarrh yeah, not everyone can afford a DSI, but for the money you gotta put on a kaoosilator you can go for a microkorg or an alesis micron and they are two great synths, real synths... the kaossilator IMO is just a fancy machine with nice interface and with some nice presets, but not a synth at all, programming is just impossible... the microkorg is capable of some really tight programming and you can get amazing sounds out of it, and IMO synths are just about programming sounds

  • @mynmyself I know, I own a micron and an SH201 as well, so i know the capabilities of those synths. What I like about the K pro is its looping capacity, the drum sounds and the synth basses, especially the emulations of the old analogue monophonic synths. The Korg allows me to create basslines and backings on the fly, so I can use my micron e.g .for leads and the SH201 for pad sounds or I can use it to create jamtracks to practise and improve my guitar playing.

  • Say you over-dub on one of the lower ABCD pads, how do you delete one of the over-dubs without wiping out all the sounds recorded to it?

They do not come with memory cards right? Where can you buy them?

Also, the protective sheet that comes with it is way too small and slides around as you drag your fingers over the pad. Anyway of avoiding that without removing the protective pad?

How do you bring up the filter, looper, delay and pitch? And these effect all assigned pads?

  • In your opinion, what would be a better choice, the Kaossilator Pro, or the KP3?

  • Question: does it support odd beat phrases/patterns? Like 7 beats, 5beats??

  • um daft punk used this at the grammys

  • @hyperpmp did they? im not sure they did. they use custom touch pads and such but idk

  • @RSBlastoise383 i guess it was called a JazzMutant Lemur controller, and they used 4, i just got it off wikipedia

  • @hyperpmp Cool, I was just skeptical about whether it was factual or not

  • still seems like too much of a toy for 400

  • i stil don't understand if i can midi out note and play an external synth or a virtual instrument... i mean using the kaossilator pro as a keyboard... anyone did?

  • its a dope product.. but i think they kinda blew it with the midi mode... you should be able to play midi notes from a sound made on the computer... RECORD/LOOP/SAMPLE that into the ko pro.. and go from there...

  • @pabalino2008 theres not a "instrument input" .. but theres plenty of ways to play a guitar through it.. just not really sure why you'd want to do that... the kp3 effects processor would probably be better for that... or a pedal board...

  • @Juiceboxdubstep You can use it as a simple drum machine and create basslines with it Yo can also sample a short guitar riff and play solos over that, so the Kaossillator pro makes a great tool for practise and jamming. Moreover you can use t use some vocoder fx to get a ring modulator sound out of your guitar. I use it a lot for laying down basslines and drumtracks. If I want to get an analog synth sound out of my axe, i use an EHX microsynth though.

  • Why in the world would you not be able to listen to the sounds while you're exporting data? Ridiculous. They really stressed the MIDI feature when they advertised this unit and I think that was really rotten not to mention the massive limitations and complications. Some of us don't have laptops and such.

  • Top notch video. The lack of decent MIDI functionality is a real drawback. It would be great if MIDI performance data could be recorded into a DAW for editing and playback. I'm not so worried about playing it from a keyboard, that's not what it was designed for. As for saving performances to SD card and then into the DAW via the Editor, it's right cludge. Why not just record the audio directly into the DAW a voice at a time?

  • nice review, im buying :D

  • very nice review....

    thanks.

  • Seems much more usefull than the POS kp3 that I had..

  • I've got it, and my expectations were too high. Without the arpeggiator patterns such as the ones on the toy Kaossilator, it's versatility is much more limited than hoped.

With midi in and out, what ZombiePopsho said. . . would like a more precise way to trigger the sounds. Having only basic musical knowledge, I thought this would be the answer to creating the music in my mind. But the pad is just not precise enough for me, should have spent the money on keyboard lessons.

  • @Vanopelli the answer to creating music should be to expand beyond basic musical knowledge, not buying toys to do it for you. I will be getting one of these so that i can loop live guitar, it is worth the moeny alone for the SOS looper. cheers!

  • Best review ever. Seriously. Answered all my questions. Thanks.

  • Does it still have the original sounds from the first kaossilator? great video, really did help!

  • Does it still have the original sounds from the first kaossilator? great video, really did help!

  • Im exp delivery of this Kaossilator today! I've never used one before so, I'm open to suggestions as to where to start. I've got Mixcraft 5 DAW and I was hoping to create some tracks with a steady beat and add vocals. I think it sounds awkward to get creations from this Kaos Pro via its SD card and into the DAW! Is it easy? Do ya recon I cud create a track worthy of selling once I've mastered this &, would I need to use a MIDI keyboard to add extra sounds?

  • mae, pura vida. excelente revision. tuanis mop.

  • can i perform the secret mode(ks 01) in the kspro ...where i record live changes in the loop length (16 to 8 to1 bar) and create stutters and glitches...?????

and if i actually can...can this result be saved to one of the 4 banks?[/b]

  • @pastod Yes, and the good news is you can do that for each loop bank individually. If you, say, record your drumpatterns to bank A a bassline to bank B, and leads to C and D, you can call up the mixer menu and shorten or lenghten the loops individually, this way you can have your drum and bassline playing continiuosly, while you create "stutters" in the lead line. Of course you can also apply the effect to all banks simultaneously. The bad news is, that you can't record this to a bank.

  • replaying a melody, IE for live performnace is almost impossible.

Also, it would great if you alter each loop banks volume after recording, but you cannot.

Another Thing I'd like to add, is the fact that when you export your loops and sample banks it doesnt do it at the temo that you have them on the Kaossilator! It exports them at the value you recorded them, and not the one at which you are exporting it as. This is REALLY confusing. Can anyone enlighten me on this please?!

  • @rODIUMuk Playing melodies requires some practice, but is feasible. As to the volume changes after recording: that thing has a mixer for that, simply press and hold shift and one of the bank buttons and you can use the touchpad to mix the individual banks volumes to your liking. BTW this option is also great for ending a K Pro session.

  • If I would like to use it as a sampler (apart from synth) to play one shot samples live would it be sufficient? I'm not sure if I understand correctly the 850k limit... Is it in some lossy format? Because uncompressed it would be awfully small - like 4 or 5 seconds.

  • w"wahvs"? really?

  • it looks so difficult to connect a external midi keyboard with the sound of the kaossilator via logic... i know nothing about midi data cc notes... could you make a tutorial how to set this function in logic step by step? would be so cool!

  • @afr3ak to connect to an external midi keyboard just to simply control it is pretty simple if you know the steps.

  • @grymmtymm

soo.....could u show them? i spent 4 h on fixing that and nothing...

  • no external midi control?..... its lost me already...

  • you can externally control it you just need a midi note to cc converter.

  • I was reading the manual regarding saving/loading wave loops. However, the manual is not very clear in how each loop is saved. I know that you can have 4 loops for the four pads. Can I save presets that contain the 4 loops? For example, Preset 1, 2,3, etc..

    _________________

  • I think if is not possible to play with external keyboard its just,, BIG TOY'' I really do!!! Its suck!!

  • when does this release in the US?

  • Is it possible to use the gate arpeggiator with vocoder?

  • great review, thank you very much

  • Its a shame that you can't hook a keyboard to it.....That was the only addition I really wanted.....

  • @ZombiePopshot

You can hook a keyboard to this, what are you talking about? Just hook a 1/4 inch jack into the pad! :D

  • @ZombiePopshot What are you talking about? You can plug in ANYTHING into the RCA, or 1/4 inch jack. Also, the Kaoss Pad 3 can be used for effects and sampling a keyboard.

  • @dylanmsterling4 I ment via MIDI to use the Pad as the sorce of the sound while I play the notes on the keyboard (without a computer).

  • @ZombiePopshot you can, he does in the unboxing video.

  • @decendeded He says that you can not use a MIDI keyboard to play notes through the KP! He hooked his up to a computer and found different MIDI values to represtent notes and then hooked his keyboard up to the computer.

  • @ZombiePopshot that's really unfortunate

  • @ZombiePopshot you can, watch the korg channel

  • @ZombiePopshot you CAN hook a keyboard to it. who said you can't?

  • @downjones72 show me a video that allows this without the use of a computer

  • @ZombiePopshot check this vid: Making Music with the Korg Kaossilator Pro - Nevada Music UK

  • @downjones72 I ment using the keyboard as a midi controller without a computer. That video just has a keyboard playing through the KP.

  • @ZombiePopshot You can hook a keyboard to the Kaossilator Pro. Sonicstate has another video showing how.

  • @kauxkaux I ment via midi

  • great review!

  • Thanks Sonicstate, I did find it in the end, not long after posting the problem. Always the way eh!? Thanks again...

  • Anyone know where to download the software to convert the Pro samples into WAV/AIFF and vice versa!?

I'm stumped and waiting on confirmation to access the Korg forums!

  • I dont know if its publicly available yet, but the KOPRO editor allows you to export and import.

    RE: Flash Memory

  • Good review did you check your flash memory there is a difference in write and read speeds try using a class 6 memory its faster. There are several classes yours maybe class 2 or 4 so write speed will be slower.

  • Nice review I noticed the slow upload times for the flash drive it maybe the flash speed drive you have try using class 6 flash the othere's are slower at writing data

  • If you use the kaossilator pro as a midi controller, can it loop and send the same pattern of midi messages over and over?

  • Hi, does the Kaossilator Pro comes with a power supply or do you have to buy it separately? It won't run from betteries after all I've read, or?

Thanks for the video and reviews. I will have a closer look at the Kaossilator at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt and think I will buy it... as a big brother for my original Kaossilator :)

  • I noticed that you used an M-audio axiom in the Un-boxing video. Why not create a preset in Enigma (axiom's midi program) that allows you to do the same as you did in Logic (play notes with the keyboard) but the Enigma Files can be shared much more easily. if not please make a video showing how you did it ..

  • Thats a good idea, some MIDI controllers will allow you to send MIDI CC from the keys so that would work yes. I do show how I did it in the video, if you visit our site, there's the Logic Song I created for download too
