cant decide between this and the big muff, this has that really nice vintage overdrive but doesnt quite get enough to a fuzz, but the big muff has an excelent fuzz, can the big muff clean up a little bit for a nice vintage overdrive like this pedal?
@JerrysDerby the big muff can clean up to some extent, but i'd say get the little big muff because its the same thing as the big muff but smaller enclosure, the big muff has a fuzzyish sounding overdrive with the sustain rolled off and the guitars volume off
@xPsuedo I have the nano version of this and the BM with tone wicker and I have to say they are 2 different animals. The BM isn't going 2 give u that that clean overdriven sound it's more like a vintage fuzz while the DBM is more like a really warm tube like overdrive with some saturated tone like distortion.I personally find a solid use for both.
I think guitarists take issue with "indie rock" because it places for less emphasis on guitar playing and more on song structure, and currently, synthesizers.
When we stop clinging to classic rock like it's some kind of sacred object then guitar playing can move wholly forward.
I'm sick to death of Clapton riffs. There, I said it.
I just listen to 40 differnet fuzz pedal here on U Tube and this one and an original Univibe Super Fuzz ($600 is you can find one) are the only two that really inspired me. ....so far. I got to hand it to Electro Harmonix. If I could only use one effects company, I would go with E.H.
@1971SuperLead Yep EH Muff is great. Do yourself a favour and check out the Wattson Super Fuzz and the Earthquaker Hoof Fuzz for some 'amazing' and affordable fuzz : )
@lastrockgod Yeah you could, but the pedal is very sensitive to what gear your using. You might want to check out the Germanium 4 Big muff pi also. They're both great i think the G4BMP sounds a little bit more garagey.
@lastrockgod this should work...for what I remember Ron Asheton used a Germanium version of the fuzzface and he often left his vox wah on (while not using it) just to create that signature tone...try a bunch of pedals (both silicon and germanium!) before you buy one and choose the one you like the best!
@lastrockgod I think the Velvets used a Vox Tonebender on White Light/White Heat. They had an endorsement deal with Vox at the time. Most of their garage sounds came from their Vox amps, though.
I wish they made it with a footswitch instead of a switch to switch between the 1st and 2nd Muff circuits, would make it so much easier when playing live. Anyone know if anyone does mods for this sorta thing?
I wish this pedal had a few more controls like tone and volume. and maybe 2 switches to turn on both muffs. THAT would be GREAT!!!!! I'd pay whatever for that!
@HajrudinPranjga The Little Big Muff is basically a Big Muff, but in a smaller diecast box and it can work with an adapter. The Double Muff is two Muff Fuzz pedals in one box. The Big Muff has great distortion and sustain, the Double Muff I would assume is more of an overdrive/distortion pedal. So it depends on what you're looking for. :)
@HajrudinPranjga big muff pi or double muff doesn't matter it's rather what you want to play in my opinion the pi is better for grunge and stoner rock while the double muff is way better for classic rock and blues
I have this pedal, and is very versatile. You can get a nice and clear overdriven tone and if you turn it up a little you can get a classy fuzz sound. I can use this to for pushing the tubes in my amp to a nice and unique distorded sound. is so versatile yet so affordable. I love this pedal!!

Dunno 'bout the muff part of the name. I'd use it more as a chunky overdrive (rythm) tone as apposed to the big muff's full blown leads. Doesn't mean I don't like it, just means I'll buy this, AND a big muff pi tone wicker :o).
MC5!!! I'm so set with people soloing out for 5 minutes on a demo and not hearing how the pedal sounds playing cords. Not everybody is Hendrix fan... Did he just say that?! Yes I did... NO GAIN, NO PAIN!!! TURN IT UP TO 10!!
id prefer this over a big muff i imagine, using this on top of an amp with mild-breakup would give a great fuzz tone without too much whoof or muddy gain. awesome!
@Goldleader727: In that case, I'd suggest you tried the Digitech DF-7. You can get all the doom you want with that one. The EH stuff is designed was made for those craving that 60s-70s rock sustain.
@hellraider707 i have the nano muff, is the same is just having one of the two muffs here... i use it with an lpb1 in front of it and it gets much nastier, much more punchy and you can clarely see the gain aujment as well as a tone change
Big muff. I first got the double muff. I sold it within a week and bought a Big Muff. I make indie too with a telecaster and I love the Big Muff. (1 tip: it sounds best with all knobs at 6 o clock. Don't use it like most distortion pedals: tone 3 o clock and dist 12 o clock. )
@soldat182 i had the same question - i play in an indie rock band. after searching it a bit, i believe double muff is much better for indie rock. it's more like an ovedrive-fuzz. pi is more like a distortion.
Nice Pedal but i wonder why EHX didnt just put a second foot switch to punch in and out of the 2nd setting kind of like the fulltone GT-500 I like the tone and think i will get this. Def going to add a second switch to flip back and forth.
Most pedal tone stacks are passive, which knocks off a lot of volume, often calling for a gain make-up stage afterwards, this rises the overall noise floor of your setup, and if every pedal you're using has a tone stack in it, you're going to get an awful lot of noise at the end. I build a lot of pedals myself, and I never include a tone control, it's pointless as nearly all amps have active 3-band EQ built in.
The trick with this pedal is to keep it first in the signal line or at least behind true bypass-pedals. Otherwise it won't work and the tone is horrible, ear-rippingly trebley. I only have a TBP-tuner (Korg Pitchblack) before it in my effects and it sounds just fine.
well, maybe a Rat Distortion, or a few overdrives in serie? i have a Rat Distortion, Maxon OD808, EH single muff fuzz and a Diamond Overdrive, well, you can create everything you want, harder, louder, thicker, everything you want, just play with it, and you'll find out (:
This one was my first choice. For real. Fucking amazing feeling of a Distortion with that little Fuzz touch. Hendrix Style. Grampa Rock. xD ! But, fortunately (Or not o.O !?), i bought a 25 years old Ibanez SD-9 Sonic Distortion. Awesome. But it's not a ''smooth'' distortion like the Muff Fuzz. It's more agressive. But it fits right in ! Maybe, when money comes in, i'll buy one of those. In Brazil, instrument prices blow your money out of the pocket quicker than cumming. =/ ! Well .. that's it !
Well personally I think the me-70 sucks lol....but this would definately give you a good grunge tone. Cobain used a big muff(not the same, but similar) and a rat for his main distortions.
Wait... what did he do at 3:50? There are 2 distinct sounds there... the first one, a lot glassy and then it gets more midrangey... I'm looking for that first tone, how did he achieve that, I didn't get what he did. Was he using the guitar's vol pot?
I knew this guy was the riff-meister, but I never expected to hear "Ramblin' Rose" by the MC5. I guess it's the most appropriate thing one can play with this pedal, though.
i have the big muff pi usa model, and this pedal seems much more useful to me than the my big muff pi usa. the tone on the double muff seems very tame which fits my style. i don't even use the my big muff anymore, its more a "just to have pedal now. I love using the big muff for my bass rather my guitar though.
Fuck yeah! Love is like a Ramblin' Rose! MC5 beyatch!!!

is the muff overdrive the same as this pedal set on single?

Wait... what did he do at 3:50? There are 2 distinct sounds there... the first one, a lot glassy and then it gets more midrangey... I'm looking for that first tone, how did he achieve that, I didn't get what he did. Was he using the guitar's vol pot?
marcelcruzeiro 2 years ago
That's the volume on the guitar rolled back. A lot of folks like to hear if a fuzz cleans up when you turn down the guitar volume, and this one does.

hey guys how would this pedal work for a solo boost on an already overdriven amp?
ihavenoname93 2 years ago
if you used all of the fuzz possible on this pedal and a moderate amount on the amp itd sound so distorted that it could be mistaken for a synth
