To see why LCD sucks, make a screen full of bright orange, and then move your head around. You will see the orange change wildly in colour & brightness from a greeny colour to a bright red, and the impossibility of having the whole screen the same colour.

I'm very much looking forward to the introduction of SED, if the players involved can overcome all the economic and legal hurdles that frustratingly continue to hamper the situation.

I may never have seen a demo SED set in person, but my understanding of how it works leads me to believe this would be the ultimate display technology. I still prefer CRT over anything else currently available, and SED is claimed to be better again.

SED is based upon CRT technology so I have high hopes considering I can't stand LED and also think CRT is the way to go as of now.

heh, yeah, it sounds funny the way he said it. I think he's referring to the fact that there is 2mm of distance between the sheets of glass and, therefore, the thickness of the whole unit (including the thickness of the glass and that 2mm space) is approximately a half inch.

That also increases its lifespan.

All this talk but today SED and OLED are still not readily available and LCDs are still dominant. It's a shame, I want to ditch my bulky CRTs but even the best of the best LCDs and their variants are still not up to CRT's standards. Here's to hoping to see some OLED/SED monitors by 2009.

i don't like the picture quality of lcd which is not good enough for display movie. i alway hope new kind of panel can stand in lcd. it could be sed, oled or else. unfortunately, too many law suit to sed. it delay the sed product launching to the market.

I have a 51 inch CRT HDTV that has a "flat screen" on the front of it but the tv is 2ft deep. Flat Panels changed to flat screen when the general public decided to change it! The pros who work in the home theater industry wont say that because the term flat screen is so inaccurate. Is it an LCD, plasma, OLED, FED, or SED? If I were a salesman and someone said I want a flat screen, I already know they're a novice. Now get this $185,000 "flat screen" here sucker. You can afford it. Really!

SED won't have any flicker due to the fact there is an electron gun per pixel as opposed to one for the whole screen, it may be heavier, but it will far outlast and OLED just like a regular CRT, remember SED/FED is essentially a CRT screen but with a gun per pixel instead of one for the whole screen which is why it can be flat. The depth of a CRT is because the gun needs to sweep the grid

I think LCD and PLASMA have the "Sharper" image CRT has a shitty way of refreshing and they seem to be brighter than crt I hate crt after using LCD :p

Midnight Marrow, you've probably shifted from low resolution CRT, to a high resolution LCD.

A high grade, high resolution CRT outperforms the image of flatscreens. Videophiles will tell you this almost exclusively.

LCD is crisp by the pixel, and sloppy by the image. They've improved a LOT, but they aren't as image faithful as CRT. SED surpasses CRT. LCD is doomed.

Well my first lcd was a 17" and had a 1280x1024 res as did my crt's in the past. and i liked the LCD but your right i didn't buy those bigass crt's as they had cost quite a bit atm im on a 24" LCD 2ms and high contrast 1920x1200. I likey
