  • **Stephen King, not Steven. :)

  • i live in orrington.....right near bangor.....its funny when them outta staters say banger......its common sence how its pronounce......just because we talk with an accent dont mean thats how its supposed to be

  • Maine is like Massachusetts creepy cousin...

  • @MrBrassBaller Hey! lol not cool! lol

  • I've been to Bangor and Brewer. Nice town. I seriously considered moving there from Texas. My mother's family is from Massachusetts and they always called it "Bang-er"

  • Stephen King is my buddy here. <3 He used to walk with my dad to the bus stop.

  • lol wow. i lived in bangor my whole life (13 years) i lived in new jersey when my father was stationed there and my history teacher called it banger. i was so mad lol.

  • It is Bangor, Maine. B-A-N-G-O-R as in OR This - or - That! Cat in the Hat! (not ER .... like, water) ----- Roger Miller, mispronounced the city's name, for the sing-song effect, of ending it in "ER, to make it sound like Banger, Maine. It is the accent of Roger Miller, coming from a different part of America. Educated folks, even Roger Miller, knew that he was mispronouncing the name of the city in his own song. He just wanted his song, to be easier to sing. That's all folks.

  • @somebodysentme I've noticed you have nothing to do but post this same damn thing across any Bangor video, so I have a feeling you're just trolling

  • Woooooot Belfast.

  • I live in Hermon, riht next to Bang-OR Is that so hard???

  • I used to work at a rest stop and out-of-staters would frequently ask me how to get to "Bang-er" :)

  • bagel central is the best thing in downtown bangor <3

  • yeah well I was born and raised and it's Bangore as noted below...we weren't idiots and still aren't....people just need something to make ufun of...

  • you banguh, you brungah!!!

  • Stephen King!!!!

  • it's not Bangor maine... It's "bang town"

  • @boarderboy411u more like white folks trying to be usless gangstas town

  • Skowhegan Maine =D but i got family in newport and bangor

  • lived in Maine a number of years. Go to Bangor a few times a year. never heard anyone pronounce it as banger. I and everyone else I've ever heard in person here says it as Bang-ore Bang as in bang and ore as in ore like gold ore, iron ore. pronouncing it as banger sounds downright stupid to me, and me I'm a smart one.

  • I live in Bangor Northern Ireland which I believe is the original and we pronounce it Banger. I've no idea what that proves though.

  • "Bang-oah"

  • oh sweet jesus bub! cant forget bangah

  • I don't live too far from Bangor, and I always hear people say Bangah.

  • I live about 45 minutes away from Bangor. Never knew that it was commonly mispronounced as "Banger". It's always been "Bongore" from anyone I've heard it from. Song made me laugh.

  • I have lived in Maine my entire life and have never been to Bangor.

  • I'm very familiar with the Maine accent. I have been to Maine many, many times. And yeah, Bangor is pretty nice. :) Yes, you call it "Bang-ORE", not "Bang-ER". Roger Miller got it wrong.

  • Maine, the fabled land of Stephen King. I wonder how many people love him and how many people hate him in that state.

  • @gringochucha love him <3

  • Wait there are monks in bangor? How did I not know this? Oh and for the record, not all of maine is THAT boring a lot of people vacation there in the fall because of the leaves :P

  • Maine = boring

  • Obviously, Roger Miller didn't do his homework when he wrote this song!

  • I like the pronunciation "Bang Her" the best. Len forgot to mention that among the quirky shops downtown there's a headshop/bong store on every corner. Go Sea Dogs! TSR

  • oh my god, real mainers do not say bangor or bangore if you are from maine dependin on your accent we say "bangah" or "benger" and bangor is the worst place to go if you want to experience maine for real

  • @x7paige shut up man, I live in Waldo/Brooks and I say Bangore, everyone in my school(Mt. View) does and that's 1,000 kids.

  • @hannigan06

Have fun getting shanked by the rotten kids there.

  • West Gardiner actually, I hardly ever go to Bangor

  • See even you know Bangor sucks.

  • Bangor is only fun for drunks, it seems.

  • Yeah Portland you can actual go and look at art. I went to Bangor two years ago for a wedding. It wasn't fun besides I like the ocean. A river just doesn't do it for me. I live on Peaks Island in Casco Bay if you've heard of it.

  • Ocean definitely beats a river. Yes, I've heard of Peaks Island, pretty sure I've been there at one point in life.

  • What is so hard about saying Bangor! where the fuck did someone think it ended with "er " fucking roger miller!

  • @lankey32 They got the idea from Bangor, Wales where I assume the town's name orginates from. In England we pronounce it Banger. My mother is from Maine though, I pronounce the two names differently depending on where Im talking about. Just like Calais. For Maine - Callis, for France - Callay.

  • @scabo0o no it's just cause our accent is fucked up.

  • @lankey32 QQ?

  • @lankey32 I am in the air force, grew up in kittery, and everyone in the service says BangER. drives me fuckin nuts.

  • @metalscottsman yup same here, I'm on Subs and with the boomer base in Bangor, WA (which they pronounce Banger because they're know nothing flat-landahs) so EVERYONE I meet calls it Banger.

  • @lankey32 I know someone here in Texas that says it that way...sadly.

  • @lankey32 - for the same reason fucking ignorant americans call it the New MAdrid fault line instead of New MaDRID fault line...or Dez Plains or Dez Moines... or Missourah? wtf is that?

  • I love Bangor. My family has been in Bangor/Brewer/Orrington since 1826, though I am a Virginian!

  • my family is from Orrington and i'm from Virginia. lol. wow

  • No way that is amazing. I am from Fairfax, Va. My family had a farm in Orrington that is now what they call a "living history" museum.

  • @Nick83Fairfax I've been trollin' Mainahs on Youtube for a while now. Live in Waterville now, on Cherry Hill next to Colby. But Clifton is my hometown. Miss it some times. I love telling Mainahs that the school budget for Fairfax county is three times bigger than Maine's entire state budget. If they believe me, they come away thinking NoVa's streets are paved in gold. Hahahaha! TSR

  • you'll hear alot of news reporters say it banger, its bangor

  • Oh well. I live in Amarillo and the native Texans say Amarilla.

  • ha! i live near fuckin newport.

but i go to bangor all the time.

  • @KraziAngel22 sooo u go to Nakomis Highschool then er MCI

  • @KraziAngel22 I'm from newport, newport in Australia.

  • lol i love in corinth

  • The author's name is spelt Stephen. And I have heard many people outside of Maine call Bangor "Banger".

  • Spelt is German wheat. Spelled is spelled "Spelled".

  • You are the new voice of a generation, haven't heard that one yet, and I love it!

  • Represent!

  • that little river is the penobscot

  • @patriotsfz: Actually, it's the Kenduskeag :)

  • @carterknudsen525 either way the penobscot still goes thru the bangor area. it seperates bangor an brewer. :)

  • i have never heard anyone ever call it "banger". Also, most people don't notice their accents. I swore that i didn't have an accent but my uncle from California visited me and told me that i definitely did. I still don't hear it, but everyone has an accent.

  • some people call it banga lol

  • ohhh I love that comic book store!!!

  • its practicly the only one in maine

  • Bleh, I live in Ellsworth, it's better than being in a state filled with crime.

  • @sephuroth1 No crime in Maine? Sure? Every other day there's another kid diddler in the news. I've never seen so many Chesters in my travels. Don't mistake lax prosecution, laughable short sentences, and incompetent cops for no crime. TSR

  • you bangor people have it lucky try living in calais

  • Uhhh...France?

  • no calais maine

  • Never heard of it.

  • you know won the state basketball thing last year

  • How about.... Carthidge?!

  • Heh... "callous." I stayed in Calais a couple days once and thought it a very nice little town.

  • it is a nice town but theres nothing to do here and if you had stayed long enough you would know about the methadome problem

  • i feel ya, tho i didnt know about the drug problem..

  • @mohawkman2006 we talking bout bangor or maine in general? lol

  • @IMN666 maine in general with the methadome lol

  • Mainers for life

  • you watched this video because you saw this as a related video to kjetil's vitamin sti video am i right?

  • I'm from Bangor in North Wales and most of the locals pronounce it 'banger'.

  • LOL I lived in Bangor for a few years but raised in the deep south, I have a mix between Maine and South Alabama...very uniquie

  • Grin, Welcome to Maine and thankyou for spending your money on us.

Please come back and visit more than just Bangor. IE the parking lot known as MDI

    LOL!

  • Wicked cool...AYUH! Skowhegan, Maine

  • lol my dad talks like that

  • lol Stupid Youtube Maken Fun Of Our Mainers Accent lol BS!

  • DYSARTS!!!!!

  • Hello friend! My name is Christian and I'm from Spain, I am writing to ask about two things bangor, or rather on the outskirts of Bangor, still like 17 years ago? 17 years ago I saw a movie set in bangor, and I liked the site . The second question is if you know something about a tour, called "Stephen King's tour" I have heard of him and asked whether it was true. Thank you very much for your attention and I feel sorry for my bad English.

  • i've been to that cafe!

  • I have to say right Bangor has vice president barred there when Lincoln was president I can not remember his name and a headless women as well spook's the site where the two are barred in Mt.Hope cemetery Bangor was known as the lubmer capital back in the late 1800's

  • His name was Hannibal Hamlin. His house is on Fifth Street. When Bangor was a big lumber town all of the lumber barons built mansions. Most of the ones still standing are on a section West Broadway. Hamiln's house is maybe a two minute walk from there, which is probably an overestimation. It was called the Queen City. Some stores still have Queen City in their name.

  • mhm ive been there... my father and steven king are pretty much best friends so i see him all the time. also Don Findler, the man who wrote "lost on a mountain in Maine" is my fathers friend. I see him all the time too.

  • its don fendler

  • You can't even spell either of their names right. I'm sure you're really tight with them

  • haha mainer accents.

whited ford is def an awesome place =]

worked there washing cars...they are so nice...

  • I LOVE JAVA JOES!!! funny video by the way.

  • I moved from Maine to WA and live near "Sub Base Bangor". They say it the wrong way, but I'm willing to let it go because it's a long way from Maine.

  • lol.. my moms old bf worked at whited :p

  • Great job! I loved it!

  • I been in them stores:)

  • it's amazing we say our "R"'s in Bangor, it really seems so wrong for us Mainah's, shouldn't it be Bangah? lol

  • Plenty of us Mainahs talk about going up to Bang-oah!

  • yessah cap.

  • I was gonna say i've always said bango-ah

  • That's right.

  • I was born in Bangor, Maine and I've lived in Orono all my life which is right next to Bangor and I don't say Banger. Usually you catch the older people who've lived here longer and they say Banger. I passed Stephan King's house a couple times and it's really cool on Halloween. Bangor is a cool city and it's really convenient living right outside of it. The cool part of Bangor is where the mall is though. I'm pretty sure that guy was on the other side.

  • CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, and the Weather Channel all say Banger with the (er). I think they don't know that the letters o and r sound like "or" as in ore. With the so called Mainer accent it may sound like Bangah with the ah sound at the end, but I mainly hear that on the coast or in TV movies by King.

  • Hello! I am interested in knowing Bangor, Maine but I looked the other way, your video is not akin to the idea that I have in the head from bangor, I have photos of spring and very beautiful. I also look forward to going to bangor because I like to see the sites that suits your Stephen King novels, and if I am not misinformed there is a tour of Stephen King not?

Sorry for my bad English, this translated from google, I am Spanish.

    A greeting friend.

  • That guy sounds just like Clint Eastwood in the beginning. "Go ahead, make my day". LOL

  • Properly pronounced: "Ban-goa". Drop the "R" at the end, & replace it with an "A" instead to say it like the natives. The letter "R" isn't pronounced in the end of alot of words up here. Another example: "Shopping cart" becomes "shoppen' caat". "Wal-mart" becomes "Wal-maat", & so on....

  • Around where I live (not in Maine but in NE) people call shopping carts carriages.

  • that guy is hilarious LOL!!

  • its HOW MAINERS TALK U DOOSH

  • Yeah, I'm from Maine and I sure as fuck don't talk like that.

  • dude, you do fucking talk like that, Im from maine and I talk like that. You talk like that if you were born in maine.

  • No, the uneducated morons from Maine talk like that, not everyone.

  • {KristinCote} If you're born and raised in maine you're gonna have a mainer accent. Being unneducated has nothing to do with it.

  • I was born and raised in Maine and I have yet to develop this accent. You're probably not from Maine, are you?

  • Mispunctuation aside, I take issue with this statement. If you listen closely, you will notice that they will drop Rs, swallow Ts, and sometimes even exchange vowels. This seems to increase the fluidity of what they're saying. Quite efficient if you ask me. More words per breath.

  • In addition, several states(NH, VT, NY, MA, CT, RI, NJ and parts of PA) share variations of this accent with Maine. Are you implying that the approximately 54 million people who live in the north east sector of the United States are uneducated based on their accent?

  • I'm sorry that I am posting three times in a row, but I'm pissed! I used to live in Maine. I Went to Gardiner High School. Many times we were told our school didn't make the cut. Students were not testing well. I recently moved to Seattle and even with Amazon, Google, Nintendo, Microsoft(across the lake), and Real Networks, I was surprised at how many dim bulbs lived here. Maine seems to have very high educational standards by comparison.

  • I went to Gardiner too.

  • Why would people say Banger when there is an (or) at the end. Unless your from Ireland.

  • becuase its called an accent.

    a maine accent.

    we dont pronouce anything right.

    duhh.

  • Cities should look like this.

  • I never could understand why they say Banger not Bangor...that always annoyed me...I use to live in Maine in Orono right outside of Bangor. I also hated how mainers added r's into words where they dont go like for example Vehicle they say verhical..that was a huge annoyance for me..I always felt like giving the people a dictionary and showing them how it is spelled and said...lol

  • First ya Brewer...then ya Bangor!

  • i hate...i mean HATE when people cant say bangor...hello its spelt bangor not banger so why do u say it with a er UGHHH it makes me mad

  • If you think about it though, "major" is pronounced like "majer", and "guarantor" is pronounced like "guaranter", so it isn't surprising some people would see "Bangor" and think its said "banger".

  • You can't get there from here a-yeah

  • lol there isn't too many chain stores because you are in the gay part of bangor. Downtown bangor sucks, nobody ever goes down there...

  • Okay, you post a video about how to say "Bangor" but you can't even spell Stephen King's name write.... Pathetic.

  • ummm bit of irony here....you spelled write wrong...

  • Yeah, I was busy so I told my friend to type that. She can't spell very well....

  • you mean "right"?

  • Carmel, Maine.

    Bangor is my second home...

  • I live in Bangor, Northern Ireland. We pronounce it Bang-ger

  • He actually said it correctly. Bangor in USA was named after Bangor in Wales, UK, which is where i live.

  • Thank you for posting! You are welcome to come back any time. If you do visit me @ the herbal tea & tobacco co. "one of those funky shops downtown" Peace & love from Obamaville.

  • Yeah bangors pretty bangin =]

    YAY FOR MAINERSSS =]

  • haha it will make ya wicked smahht I'm from maine and i've been told i talk like that and yes I always pronounce it B-A-N-G-O-R

  • I live across the river from bangor, Brewer. I lived in Cape Cod for a year and got made fun of saying, "Wicked..." Wicked is a Eastern Maine word. Go Brewer Witches!!!!

  • You locals need to lighten up. One doesn't have to be a Texas-Okie songwriter like the great Roger Miller to recognize that "Banger" is a perfectly acceptable (& wonderfully funny) substitute for "Bangor" in the "King of the Road" lyric. It plays. It flows - whereas "Bang-or" with its harsh cricoid glottic (near-High-Hitlerian Germanic) sound would be a stumbling block to fairly ruin the song. Me, I'd much rather visit a town called "Banger" than so stolid-sounding a place as "Bangor," anyway.

  • It wasn't like he was slamming the proper way to say Bangor it down is throat.

  • Agreed, but I've heard this criticism before in attempting to denigrate Roger Miller & by extension those from the South whose dialect render them - in much popular opinion -somehow deficient becuase they apparently do not "speak the King's English" quite as well as say, New England Blue Bloods. Personally, I prefer "Destination: Banger, Maine" to "BangOR, Maine" for the reasons I already described. Hail, Roger Miller, "King of the Road!"

  • The correct pronounciation of the city is BANGOR, and the incorrect pronounciation is BANGER. It doesn't matter whether you "like" the correct pronounciation or not. It is what it is! When in Rome..... (I don't know why, but some folks are some dense, now ain't they?" :)

  • yay for people who live in maine!

  • I am from Bangor Maine, and I hope you enjoyed your stay. Oh and thanks for keeping the comedy clean and not offensive...And to everyone else we don't talk funny:)

  • ill make yah whicked smahht :-) im from maine

  • omg the "it will make you wicked smart" made me laugh my ass off. i love that sentence. my step dad says it all the time

  • haha ^^ I live in glenburn and it makes me laugh when people say "banger maine."

    ITS BANGOR. BANG.GOR. BANGOR.

    YESSA.

    wicked.=]

  • This was great! Very well edited, made me want to go to BANG OR Maine

  • not BANGER.

  • He will now have to learn whatevah and have a good one! We don't have to speak russian in Moscow though.

  • LMAO...Im from a small town in Maine. When that guy said "Itll make yea wicked smaatt."

Thats ture. I get made fun of all the time cause of the way I talk. Like sayin "Im gonna get in muh caa(car) go to the stoaa(store) and buy uh beea(beer)."...

    Bang-er:No Bang-gore:Yessa.

    I tell you what =]

  • yep. i live in bridgton but i go there plenty and its bangah.

  • Its Java Joes!

  • Bangor: Bang-gore. That's it.

  • i live there! haha

  • i live in maine

  • I've live in Bangor since I can remember. Its pleasant.

  • haha, I love it when people mispronounce Bangor. I've lived here my whole life, and tourists always say BANG-er. It's mildly irritating.

    and there's a new song out by George Strait (How Bout Them Cowgirls) and he ALMOST says Bangor right...lol :}

  • lol... I'm from Maine too, not Bangor though..

I've heard poeple say Bang-er...IT's not that hard to say Bang-gore :-)

  • oh no..there are no r's when we refer to Bangor in the Portland area. it's strictly pronounced bain-gah

  • i live in addison maine and it's pronounced bangor u ignorant fools

  • You pronounce Addison bangor?

  • Im from Prentiss Maine!

  • I was born in bangor and its said "Bang-er"

    not "Bang-gour"

  • Well, you were obviously not raised by someone who pronounced it right.

  • im from brooks maine and we say bang-or..not banger...i think there is something wrong with your family..are they awayers?

  • well its definately not BANGer, its bangor

  • i'm from hampden, Maine and its like a mile away from bangor and i was born there i'm really sick of the fucking people who think we call it BANGER! stop being stereo types because not everyone from maine calls it banger it BANG-OR
