It seems like every Henry's wife who was married to him after one on her beheaded wife "survived him". Jane Seymour and Catherine Parr wasn't killed by Henry or divorced. But it's just an observation. It isn't very important x)
I really think that Henry loved Anne. I just think that he got so lost in his need for a son for his country that he had to find a way to remove Anne because she hadn't given him a son yet. I like to think that Anne and Henry were somewhere looking down on Elizabeth and that Anne had a big grin on her face for the Queen her daughter became against all of the odds.
I agree completely with you. I think he loved her, or at leasted cared for her, because even though the execution was delayed, he could have had someone just do it with an ax, but he said, it must be delayed.
See, I do not feel that Henry really loved Anne, but lusted for her. I think with Katherine, he was young and needed guidance, but she was no longer attractive. I think with Jane he saw her innocence and her potential. Anne of Cleves he just hated. Katherine Howard(Anne's cousin, who was also beheaded for pretty much the same crimes) was lust as well. I don't know much on Katherine Parr, but i don't think he ever actually loved someone than lusted for someone.
Catherine Parr was for companionship. They talked, played cards, etc. By the time he married her, he was old, fat, had puss consistently coming from his old leg wound, and some historians believe he was impotent by this time.
@honeybee3383 Actually, in real life, he didn't hate Anne of Cleves. He certainly didn't want to marry her, (some say this was because he found her ugly, others believe it's because she didn't acknowledge him when he first met her, which hurt his ego) but after the annulment/divorce they actually remained good friends...And she was often invited to court. But I believe it was mostly lust for Anne that drove Henry as well. Sorry, just my two cents :)
There was a programme here in the UK where medical experts examined in detail Henry's life and health , and concluded after much reasearch from surviving texts, mock ups of the jousting accident, plus what we now know of head trauma that Henry did indeed suffer from some brain damage from that accident, and that maybe without that he wouldnt have done to Anne that which he did. It was written in the texts that he was like someone else afterwards, he changed, totally.
I dont think that Anne did cheat on Henry, she was constantly surrounded by courtiers and servants, and besides, she loved him too much. Henry had to think of something to justify having her charged and found guilty of treason so that he could behaed her, trouble was, Henry then had thier marriage declared null and void, so even if she was guilty , if the marriage didnt exist , then how could she be guilty of treason - she couldnt - her execution was murder, he knew too that she had'nt cheated
A lot of the things that Anne Boleyn was charged with sounded utterly far-fetched - there is indeed a good likelihood that none of them were true at all. But of course we don't know what Henry believed - the man appears to have been psychotic, paranoid and mad with power. He may have believed some (or all) of it. Otherwise he could have granted her a pardon, could have had the marriage annulled and her sent to a nunnery. But for some rason he seems to have wanted her dead.
I think he believed she cheated, and i think it came down to if I can't have her no one can, and killed her to prevent anyone else from having her. I think he wanted her gone because she didn't give him a son, and he saw her doing what was in her nature, innocent flirting, she was a wild spirit and he couldn't control her. he feared someone else would take her from him so in his logic he just took care of her himself.
eventhough Queen Jane is honored more in the paintings with Henry and their son, i think that Henry really did love Queen Anne. its too bad his ambition of having an heir to his throne destroyed his relationship with Queen Anne and Queen Catherine (mother of Queen Mary I). was Henry forever hunted by Anne? i think so, or at least by the memories he had with her.
Omg..this is so touching!!..freakin henry's so paranoid..he shud have shown her some mercy but in real life there really wasn't enuff proof that she cheated on him...there's were all jus bunch of accusations..
to hear. I cannot beleive Queen Anne would be so foolish, especially considering the proof, how can we base it all on gossip - surely if we were reasonable we can't, since gossip also said she awas a witch, which we now know is not true since witch's aren't real. Henry only wanted to rid himself of his wife in order to get another pretty one, in the ain hope she would give him a male heir.
Yeah witches are real, but not really the same witches that are taught in the bible, so what he accused her of was a biblical evil witch from the devil, real witches (wiccans and pagans alike) don't believe in the devil.
I think Henry did love all of his wives (except Anne of Cleves), Anne was just too ambitious and too strong for Henry, her temper and the fact she was unable to produce a male heir was eventually her downfall. After the death of Jane Henry maintained that she was the woman he loved the most and is buried alongside her in Windsor Castle. Think this was because the fact that she produced a male heir and also recognised the mistakes Anne made, she was the complete opposite to her!
It was in the beginning of Season 1, Episode 5. I know it was Henry Fitzroy, but I used his image to depict Edward, Henry's legitimate son with Jane Seymour.
I almost feel bad for Anne and wish that Henry would have given her some mercy.
Because this video makes Anne seem so sweet. But her craziness is what got her killed.
I think Henry would have kept her and let her live a bit longer if she would have just dealt with the affairs like Katherine did. It was ONLY when Henry tried to divorce Katherine did she have a problem.
I think the main problem with them (Anne and Catherine) for Henry was that neither of them were able to produce a male heir. As for Anne, her temper was certainly one of the reasons of her downfall, but the foundamental problem was her inability to give Henry a healthy son.
@ABCjen868 yo niqquh, dat muhhfucka fall of rome, all dat shit, is what caused this feudalism shit, which caused Henry vii, which caused him to marry six chicks, which CAUSED HIM to kill his second wife, WHICH CAUSED the french revolution, WHICH FUCKING CAUSED AMERICAN REVOLUTION, WHICH HAS MOTHERFUCKING CAUSED!!!... Anne Boleyn was ambitious as many of the ladies in the courts were, but the way she achieve her objectives were sometimes harsh. When an enemy was brought down, she gloated openly which earned her enemies. And once her hard-won queenship was established, she made one of her deadliest blunder. She refused to share any of her power with other women of the court. She guarded it so fiercely that her ladies-many of them more highborn than herself-came to resent her deeply. These women spoke against her....
Henry loved all of his wives at one point, but got sick of them, found someone else, or they disappointed him in some way.
His last wife, however, he never cheated on (he was too old). He later found out that she had lied about being a virgin when they were married, but he forgave her, and then he found out that she had been cheating on him throughout their entire marriage, so he had her beheaded. He didn't marry after this however, because he was so griefstricken.
Actually, Henry's last wife outlived him. Katherine Parr wouldn't have lied about being a virgin since she'd been married three times previously.
He only beheaded two of his wives, Katherine of Aragon died after he divorced her, of old age or illness. Anne Boleyn was beheaded, Jane Seymour produced a male heir but died from childbirth Anne of Cleves was set aside, Katherine Howard was beheaded, and, as I said Katherine Parr outlived her husband
okay wrong wrong wrong his last marriage to catherine parr he died after about two or so months and she was a mawrried three times before him so how could she be a virgin and she did not cheat on her please get your history facts staright
You know, I dont think he loved his wives at all. I think he loved their beauty, or the idea of being with them. That's why he married Anne, because she wouldn't sleep with him..
I dont know, there is no way of knowing, it was 500 years ago lol.
But thats just my theory anyways. Anyone ever read The Other Boleyn Girl?? Its really good! =]
ahhh...did henry love anne? as of now i am doing tons of research into 16th century England (Tudor dynasty period). I've read three books so far (Alison Wier's are the best) and my take on it is that Anne Boleyn was simply just too much of a powerful free thinking ambitious woman for Henry. He wasn't able to fully control her and this angered him. He may have loved her, but I believe in my heart that he loved his ego more. Anne Boleyn is a hero of mine - I see her as one of the first feminists!
Awesome Vid truly great! The little boy was Henry Fitzroy in the show The Tudors Henry's son actually by Elizabeth Blount. But I'm sure here he was to be depicted as Edward, Henry's heir by Jane Seymore. Once again wonderful Vid!
Very nice video!
