Aircraft have made the approach at lower altitudes than the example in this home video, however if you are concerned that they "nearly hit" you and your companion, then STAY OUT of the aircraft approach area. That should be common sense, though it obviously is not common enough.

Turbuent winds can occur, and the plane could drop several feet. That has happened before, and when you're on threshold, it doesn't matter what you're trained for, there's nothing left to do.

I've trained for landing in rough weather conditions myself, and I know how turbulence from surrounding building ect. can affect your landing. Besides; you could be caught up in the wing vortex, allthough that's not likely to happend.
