I am not Spanish or Brazilian or any of natioalities that would be represented in this upcoming world cup but the team i really think deserves the cup is Spain. Anything can happen in the world cup stage it is often not the best team that wins the cup it is the team that gets the least unfavorable calls by the so "call" officials.. The Italian lost the 2000 European Championship to the French because the referee favored the French with 5 minutes extra time. Sweet revenge for Italy in 2006 WC.

Spain is undoubtably the favorite to win the World Cup this year. The USA game was obviously a fluke I hadn't seen Spain play that bad in a while. I haven't seen a team that can best the Spanish since the 2002 World Cup.

What, specifically, will be different this time? It's gonna take one hell of a lot more than just pre-cup optimism.

Which WC was that? - On the other subject, the Korea referee, look, when it comes to world cups, certain expressions simply shouldn't be used because what doesn't happen to one country will happen to another one. The word "if", or "bad call", or "bad luck" means nothing. Lots of people say that Italians are "lucky" and "tricky". It does NOT matter. What matters is that they have several cups to show for and Spain and Holland and Sweden do not.

This is something that I've repeated forever here. People simply don't understand that in World Cup the only thing that counts is whether you have won it or not. And, even a team like England, so "promising" right now, they've only won it ONCE and ONLY AT HOME. Same with France. The teams to beat are Brasil, Italy, Germany and Argentina because they're the only ones who won it more than once and they've won it away from home. When it isn't one of them is the other one. Spain has yet to get there

Once Spain wins a World Cup, only then they can TRULY start believing that they "belong" in the "click" group of countries who have what it takes. Before that, no matter how good they show before the tournament, it is absolutely NO guarantee that they'll win. And, by the way, Europeans never win outside Europe, so Spain needs to prove TWO things: 1st that they can win the cup and 2nd that a European team can win outside their comfort zone...

I'm not Spanish. England weren't better than Spain in the 90's. When they met in Euro 96 Spain had 2 wrongly disallowed goals, and England with probably their strongest team in years and on home soil only won on penalties. Spain have replaced Italy as the strongest footballing nation in Europe now, them and Germany will be dominant for the next decade at least. England have been a (relative) failure in football ever since they decided to withdraw from the 1st World Cups.

@samluke8121 : Just because football, as we know it, was invented in England (even though it originates in China), does not mean England is the best. England has one World Cup from way back in the day when highlights were in black and white and you have to be about 60 to remember. Spain has 2 Euros and 1 World Cup and the last three times Spain played England, Spain won. In Euro 2000, Spain had 2 goals wrongly disallowed and still only went out on penalties.
