I believe you may be right, it sounds close either way, I played this from sheets, so there may have been an error on the sheets I memorized I had to go and listen to the original to see, and yes you're correct.
I was very uncertain myself because i have got two midi files where in that position a g# is played, but i compared it with the file from the original soundtrack and it was a A. Its very uncommon, but this gives a feel of modulation that nobuo obviously sought.
anyway you inspired me to play on oboe myself, i thank you for your video and wish good luck
Playing this up an ocative wouldn't have been near as nice sounding as it is played in the lower ocative. You're great for only 4.5 years of playing the instrument. Nice control - most oboe players I've watched on here just squeak along. Great song choice too - You should try Relm's theme as well. :)
I used to play this on oboe all the time... then I sold my oboe because I needed money... biggest regret ever :(

High E-flat would just be too high IMO. I love the sound in this octave.
