That so called FREE education cost on average $6300 per student. That's about half of what private education cost and look how much waste and abuse is in the public school system. It is broken.
If caring for the poor were left up to churches and other organization it too would be much more effective. Right now with food stamps it is estimated that less then 3.6% of the money is used properly. The other 96.4% is government waste, fraud, and administrative costs. Socialism is not the answer!
On page 425 of the proposed bill, it says that everyone on social security (will include all senior citizens & SSI people) will go to MANDATORY counseling every 5 yrs to learn & to choose from ways to end your suffering (and your life). Yes, they are going to push SUICIDE to cut Medicare spending! Health care will be denied based on age. $500 bil will be cut from seniors healthcare. The only way for that to happen is to drastically cut health care, the oldest and sickest will be cut first.
Verbally molest your congressmen during their recess. Let them know that if they vote for this socialist monstrosity that they will not be able to win next election. I am disgusted with President Obama's socialization of our government. We feel as though our American dreams are being crushed by the hour. At present, we are concerned with how Obama's healthcare reform will destroy our way of life. We would appreciate an attempt to regulate and cap prices of medicine, hospital charges, and premiums. Perhaps we need a trillion person March in Washington to stop Obama and his sick constituants from destroying our country. America is still of the people.
We have waited for more than 60 years for health care to be reformed. Doing nothing is no longer an option. Please take the time and read the bill for yourselves instead of falling for the lies and scare tactics that are spreading like wild fire. I have posted a link to the bill in the comment section of my profile for those of you who are interested in the truth. Thank you.
We HAVE to stop Obama on this. Turning 1/6th of the American economy over to the government is a nightmare! Name one thing government can do better then the private sector. Look at social security, medicare, medicaid, the post office, ANYTHING the government get's their hands on is a disaster.
that all sounds great..but your wrong..the private sector is screwing the public on coverage..if you get lung cancer chances are the huge premiums your paying wont cover it..and you loos your care once they find you have cancer they (the insurance) drops you like a rock..you can't possibly think that the system right now is good for anybody..except the hmo's and insurance co. republicans are playing games with this issue..personally I DON'T want my president to fail..if he fails we fail..
the thing is, if you have lung cancer and the government controls health care then they can decide if you are healthy enough to even get treatment. at least with private insurence you can decide for yourself. why would you let the gonvernment devide if you are healthy enough to live or not?

@wbtaylor1 you must not understand the concept of the public option, it is like community college. All the other insurance companies will still exist.
It is like saying going to The community college of Philadelphia kept you from going to University of PA.

Gov. has NEVER done anything better or more efficient then the private sector. What makes you think they will with something as complicated as medical health. They can't even do cash for clunk
Think about it rationally, the private sector is built for profit. So it is in the best interest of the corporations and the pharmaceutical companies to try to give as little coverage per dollar as possible. In most other countries with either an option similar to the public option or a non-profit insurance company system, an MRI costs $25. Think about that.
That's why our government pays $112 for a hammer and $1234 for a toilet. Government is not the solution, it's the problem.
A government that can give you everything you want can take everything you have.
Profit made this country great. If you take incentives out the medical profession, you get Cuba where most people die waiting for an MRI. In England breast cancer is a death sentence. 1/3 will die under the UK social program. Here the survival reate is over 80%. The list goes on an on.
Besides. You are a little boy. You know nothing about the world. You are to young to realize that there really are evil and wicked people in the world. This is not a video game kid, this is real life. The people in Washington are corrupt and after your money, not the so called "evil companies". That's what Barry wants you to think but he and his Chicago thug buddies are after your money and your children's.
I'm not blind, The govt isn't the answer to everything. But 80% of the uninsured of America work. 2 million of those who bankrupt each year have medical costs involved. A cheaper option to private care would be the best option for them. If you don't think so what is your solution?
When did corporations start not wanting to make money?
I'm not against the free market. I'm just saying that we shouldn't give power to the private sector when people's lives are at stake
I never said corps. are not interested in making money. On the contrary. Profit is the motivator to advance medicine. If you take the profit out of the picture we loose the best health care system in the world.
I trust the private sector. I do not trust the government. Look at the latest money grab by Obama. 1.2 Trillion that was supposed to go to create jobs and instead went to pay off political bribes to the UAW, Acorn, and other organizations that got Obama elected. Trust Government??
Every one of things has an alternative if you can't afford it. Food stamps, Homeless shelters, community college/public schools. The only one their isn't a alt for is Healthcare. It is hypocrisy to deny people a public form of healthcare with out taking away grandma's food stamps or pulling little Jimmy outta school. Trust the corporations you say, when corps are in power price can only go up
You are using the slippery slope argument to defend another bloated government program. I don't think we should have food stamps or government funded education.
The free market will keep the costs down if government gets out of the way. The private sector does a much better job of taking care of the poor, the handicapped, and the elderly. Look at the programs that are run by churches vs those run by government. Private sector will ALWAYS out perform government.
Wow really, if you take away free school in this country I guarantee that the illiteracy rate will go up by at least 30%. Have you seen how much it costs to go to private school lately? I'm not saying public school is better quality but it is a necessity. If you take away food stamps how will you feed the poor? Send them to soup lines? Private sector is not the right option. They will ALWAYS forsake the common good for profit.
Mike Gravel, a great Democrat and 1 of only 2 that I had any faith in the primaries in 08, had a GREAT plan for healthcare: what he referred to as healthcare vouchers. If you're poor and need insurance or pay for a big surgery or something, just get a voucher! It's so fucking simple! We don't need some silly public option. The voucher idea would require no bureaucratic overhaul or UHC. It may be a little costly but we could easily cut costs in places like defense, instead of world police.
mike didn't take into account insurance and pharmaceuitical companies wouldn't make billions with vouchers. and it should be apparent to most americans which lobbies own the government by now. we just gave how many trillions to finance for doing a really bad job? i am not even going to get into war industry.

for your information.....buried in the Manifesto Obama & commarades have NOT even = read ....is a little know ~clause~ where by they ham string all businesses and employess from taking different jobs - because - the new hire will be =REQUIRED to only take the Obama Health Care Death Plan. They will not be allowed to take the private insurance the Business is still offering to a few. Thus - no one with children or health issues will DARE to leave their old employer. And businesses will suffer!
Tell me he's the most qualified for his post and race had nothing to do with his appointment. Do it, and I'll call you a liar.
My comment reflects a complete disgust for a party, and is perfectly legitimate criticism. This isn't personal. I didn't call him a jerk, just a token, which he clearly is. You responded with a personal attack "typical liberal", whatever dope.
He's the attempt to put a black face on a party that has been the enemy of minorities and the poor for 70 F-ing years.
Michael Steele SEES the= Tsunami~~of Obama DEATH....er Health Plan ~~~like a BIG SHADOW-SECRETLY~~creeping ever closer till we all ALL DROWNED UNDER THE WALL OF=DEBT! Doctors= living in their cars & makin 10 bucks an hour. And ONLY those with any CA$H can find a decent DOC. Those with Brain Cancer will have to WAIT! While THIS == Speacialist gets done with Bidens HEAD TRANSPLANT! The rest of the Plan is simple - anyone with JOBS has to GIVE OBAMA EACH PAYCHECK - he'll distribute your days CHANGE
Physics doesn't change it can be figured out on a piece of paper. It seems complicated to those of us that are not inclined to such large numbers but those numbers never change. The frame work was hashed out as early as 1865.
Social medicine is much more complex and the shifting sand of how, has to do with people. How do we make affordable, how to make it cover as many people as possible, and how do we keep people from stealing from the giant pile of money.
I love being apart of arugments where people don't understand that michael Steele is acting as a conservative at the moment. Which means that he is following the doctrine of conservatism which is slow and progressive change, as compared with the quick change of Obama. Also I think that whole Bingo comment was just supposed to be like, "that's what I'm talking about" from steele's pov, but it just came out as a douche bag comment
I heard Michael Steele today, the last question was to compare the $3.8 Trillion estimate for the War on Iraq with the $1 Trillion health care reform. The guy had no idea what to answer, what a fleabag.
He has so little respect for the people who are suffering and dying because they cannot afford healthcare in this country.
I'm glad that rich people travel here to get the best care - it reflects well on us as a technological powerhouse. But we're supposed to be taking care of our own people, too. Right now we aren't doing that and I'm ashamed.
The common cold has not been solved because it is a tremendously complex problem that encompasses genetics, evolution, and biology. We cannot yet solve it for the same reason why we cannot vaccinate against AIDS.
Getting to the moon, scientifically speaking, is pretty simple because the forces involved are readily predictable. Not to mention all the crossover with ballistic missile tech. Oh, and the cold war depended on it.
Michael Steele is a regular Eddie Murphy, dont you think? NOT! Michael Steele is just the big doofus who needs to get out of the way so somebody who knows what they are talking about can get some real attention. He's a dumbass, and if you're a Republicans, you're a dumbass too!
Steele's answer is Bingo, because the Republicans have no solutions for Healtcare in America. When you are rich you have to worry about how much the visit to the doctor is going to cost you.
"If we can get a man on the Moon 40 years ago, why can't we get affordable healthcare to every American today?"
I think he was about to say that, like the American space program that put a man on the Moon, a successful American health care plan will require a government sponsored effort, and a mixture of public and private enterprise coordinated by government....
the highest paying jobs in this country are the ones that produce the least ie: attorneys, stock brokers, professional athletes, actors, ceos of banks, retail store franchise owners, politicians..... all of them racking up 500,000 per year on a 5% CD account while i pay 9% interest on my 13,000 car loan. i really don't care how much they wanna bitch about "socialized" health care.
Don't get excited. He's only there as a straight man for the Limbaugh & Steele comedy act. You know...sort of like Ren & Stimpy. Steele will say something, and then Limbaugh will slap him repeatedly, saying "you EEDIOT!"
With only the wind of greed on their sails, pharma and healthcare want to be able to shed off the weight of the "pre-existing" conditions.
With a public option, they can't afford to do that, and instead of greed, lets hope the industry can be powered by quality of service, and show that we are far more capable a country in ensuring our citizens safety than any other once and for all.
The only way I can interpret that as a response to her question is, "Bingo - you've posed a rhetorical question that perfectly encapsulates why my attitude is stupid and counter productive." The shrug meant, "I don't understand what I just said."
Why not give an even better fact since you're going to get thumbed down anyway. Observe: Obama, 8 months in office, has spent more money than every other president combined.
Because, since he hasn't, that particular talking point requires some rhetorical gymnastics to pull off. You'd have to qualify it by saying he's spent money at a faster RATE than any previous president, or, if this rate of spending continues he will have spent more money than all other presidents combined by a certain year.
The only president to spend (almost three times) more money than all previous presidents combined was Ronald Reagan when the National Debt tripled between 1980 and 1988.

so let's wreck it for the 200+ million that have an ok plan so that everyone can have a poor plan that the government controls. Control health = Control people.
why can't all Americans have the same health care plan that the congress has? Why will they not give the people the same (best) coverage that they have? The rich have the best, the politicians have the best, the workers have something less and the poor & old have the worst. Now they are making it worse for the workers to be the same as for the poor, old and stupid enough to believe they don't ration health care. tj
Yay! We have no ideas. We played war and monopoly with the country for the last 8 years and really fucked up the country! Now we don't want you democrats to do ANYTHING!
We just want to scare the shit out of everyone about every single thing you do, and then we want to get into power again and play more childish games!
I'm in total agreement..Instead of being in total denial that our health care system sucks and do nothing but shove childish scare tactics down people's throats. Why not offer a suggestion, oh yeah that's right. Let the rich be healthy and who gives a rat's ass about people who can't afford it

Slow down and actually read the bills and you get a different view. D'ohBama says that his plan has competition, choice and freedom but the truth is the exact opposite.
If you make a choice he doesn't agree with (choosing to NOT have health insurance) you get fined and then the govt picks a plan for you to pay for.
Some freedom; make a choice and get fined and then have someone else force you to spend money on something you don't want.
What kind of idiot chooses not to have health insurance? If everyone has it then yes, costs will go down. If there is no profit in a government insurance plan then yes costs will go down. You'll have no reason not to "choose" to have health insurance. I mean...unless you're immortal of course, then yeah that little thing called health is dispensable.
if the costs go down, the pay for the health profession goes down and that means less nurses, doctors etc.
Having people pay for healthcare at different prices creates an incentive for priority. When alot of people are being covered for the same, it may take weeks before someone can step into a doctor's office.
Your'e wrong on the basis of economics my friend. They would not get their pay reduced because the cost cutting is coming from such things as the lavish profits that is funnelled into health insurance companies first before a doctor ever sees a dime. And if anything if everyone is insured that will mean MORE doctors, more nurses, more healthcare professionals.
Are you saying that having "priority" because you can pay more to stay alive is a good thing? Are we really that savage of a society?
1. I'm all in favor of profits, business, and fantastic profit margins. Up to and including in the medical research, biotech and pharmacology industries. I just don't happen to think there should be a profit margin in healthcare DELIVERY.
2. Lowering the profit margin in health care delivery does not mean lowering doctor/nurse salaries. 30% of private HC costs are for "administrative" purposes. Read that Bill McGuire's 1.4 billion dollar compensation package.
Maybe the kind of idiot that is still young and healthy and would like to eat once in a while, can't find a decent job and thus can't afford to spend any money and thus chooses to hold off for a while.
Part of freedom is letting people make choices about their own lives even if we view them as bad choices.
we may be self-insured, but we don't have health care that is worth a damn. i pay my expensive premiums, have for YEARS without getting sick, but if i were to get a disease you better believe they'd be looking me over. insurance does not equate to healthcare in this country. healthcare that won't bankrupt the american citizen is what we want and need.
No, but when I or my family is sick or injured, we will pay the bills ourselves and not be the burden on society that dimwit D'ohBama wants to force everyone to be.
I'd be quite surprised if Obama is proposing that health insurance be mandatory. In fact, you are the first person to say that is what's happening. Obama actually campaigned against such a plan. It was one of the main points of contention with Hillary Clinton. The only area he would force health insurance is for children.
I'm hardly the first, but you'd have to get away from the mainstream propoganda machines to know just how badly the Great D'ohBama is playing you for a fool.

Spending money killing thousands of people abroad and have 5000 odd US soldiers killed is fine...but trying to help Americans? THATS too expensive.

How can helping people be so expensive and subject to delay while the US fires taxpayer-paid missiles every day...

Current health care system is broken. (doesn't ensure a large portion of Americans and has spiraling costs). Right?
From the RNC's point of view, the Democrat's plan is terrible for America. Right?
Well then Republicans, give us an alternative plan. "No" and "I don't do policy" are not helpful.

With a public option, they can't afford to do that, and instead of greed, lets hope the industry can be powered by quality of service, and show that we are far more capable a country in ensuring our citizens safety than any other once and for all.

eurohim 2 years ago
Mindless minions following the great D'ohBama!
TedinLasVegas 2 years ago
Because, since he hasn't, that particular talking point requires some rhetorical gymnastics to pull off. You'd have to qualify it by saying he's spent money at a faster RATE than any previous president, or, if this rate of spending continues he will have spent more money than all other presidents combined by a certain year.
The only president to spend (almost three times) more money than all previous presidents combined was Ronald Reagan when the National Debt tripled between 1980 and 1988.

TedinLasVegas 2 years ago
What kind of idiot chooses not to have health insurance? If everyone has it then yes, costs will go down. If there is no profit in a government insurance plan then yes costs will go down. You'll have no reason not to "choose" to have health insurance. I mean...unless you're immortal of course, then yeah that little thing called health is dispensable.
jonr7007 2 years ago 4
if the costs go down, the pay for the health profession goes down and that means less nurses, doctors etc.
Having people pay for healthcare at different prices creates an incentive for priority. When alot of people are being covered for the same, it may take weeks before someone can step into a doctor's office.
moua64 2 years ago
Your'e wrong on the basis of economics my friend. They would not get their pay reduced because the cost cutting is coming from such things as the lavish profits that is funnelled into health insurance companies first before a doctor ever sees a dime. And if anything if everyone is insured that will mean MORE doctors, more nurses, more healthcare professionals.
Are you saying that having "priority" because you can pay more to stay alive is a good thing? Are we really that savage of a society?
jonr7007 2 years ago 3
Two things:
OlivierdeAthos 2 years ago
Maybe the kind of idiot that is still young and healthy and would like to eat once in a while, can't find a decent job and thus can't afford to spend any money and thus chooses to hold off for a while.

On the other hand, Medicare/Medicaid never pays what a procedure or treatmen is worth and causes $1,000s in paper work.

we may be self-insured, but we don't have health care that is worth a damn. i pay my expensive premiums, have for YEARS without getting sick, but if i were to get a disease you better believe they'd be looking me over. insurance does not equate to healthcare in this country. healthcare that won't bankrupt the american citizen is what we want and need.
