  • I luv you flagold!!! AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!

  • Very nice info. Thanks for sharing.

  • is this in pa?

  • Awesome Video!

  • Im going down to VA in a couple of weeks and I have a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw 2. It's suppose to be able to find nuggets according to the manual. Do you have any experience with this type of detector?

  • @planetman07 : I don't - practically any of them will buzz a nugget if the smallest coil available is used. Good luck!

  • will Colorado be a good source of finding precious metals?

  • @DeadliestSoldier : yes, the most productive area for the larger gold is out in Western Colorado in the streams and rivers near Bedrock and beyond. Eastern and central Co, gold is plentiful, but usually very fine and hard to separate. The various gold wheels will separate the gold from the sands of the Arkansas and elsewhere, if they are sifted 1/16 down to 20 mesh to get the larger stones out they do a good job.

  • @flagold Thank you for the reply.

  • going through a pile of rocks to find rock. man this kinda stuff makes me w/i was an intian 400years ago

  • great video, I am new to the metal detecting been dredging and panning for ever Valley County got a bounty hunter from my wife for my b-day and I am hooked thanks for the tips

  • Fantastic video, thank you. I had a question regarding choice of detector... I live in CA and in about 2 weeks I'm going up to north CA.We'll be prospecting for nuggets up there as well as panning, and I'd like to have a MD to use for coins and jewelry, so I was planning on getting the MXT. But I'm worried it might not be good enough for nuggets, and that I should get a GBII instead. What are your thoughts? Is the MXT good enough for prospecting?

    Thanks.

    -max

  • @stoatmax : yes, the MXT is one of the great detectors of all time. It is not a nugget hunter right out of the box, however, you will need the small "shooter" coil for maximum sensitivity. Practice on small pieces of shot before you go and read the manual several times (the stock setup instructions are written on the detector for the 3 modes it has). Doesn't get much more user friendly than that. The GBII - top notch detector but is a one trick pony - prospecting.

  • @flagold

Fantastic! Thank you for the quick reply. Would you recommend the Whites Eclipse Shooter DD coil you used in this video? And as far as learning to use the detector, will the manual give me enough info to learn to use it correctly and efficiently?

  • @stoatmax :Yes to both questions and Whites itself has some videos on using the MXT (various ways) - very best of luck in the field to you.

  • What model MXT is this unit on 7:00 time . for the three modes freequency that I see. and the name of that coil ..?

  • @Donatillo1961 : the coil is a Whites' Eclipse Shooter DD. The small coil turns the MXT into a very good nugget shooter (coinshooter as well). Very best of luck in your metal detecting!

  • Great video, I got a Fisher F-2 for starters with a small prospector 5 inch dish. Your videos got me buying metal detectors like shoes every year !. Your well explained videos lets us understand our metal detector ! . My next detector will be a Fisher Gold-bug 2

  • @Donatillo1961

will the fisher f2 is not really for starters!:)

  • GOOD VIDEO.. rick in san diego..

  • Great video.. thanks.. ordered a metal dectector.. just got laid off, welder.

    san diego.

  • @rz9027 : the very best of luck to you! When Eastern Airlines folded in the early 1990's it seemed like the end of the world to me and 80,000 other workers (some committed suicide, including one on my crew). I was determined to make it on my own after that, and it made all the difference. Prospecting may or may not be the thing that you end up doing, but your willingness to even give it a try rather than give up and give in means you'll probably come out of this recession OK. Good luck!

  • metal detecter = cheating

lol considering the old fashion way

  • Hi, I am looking into buying a metal detector and I ran across a Makro Detector JeoTech... Do you think I should buy it? Or what do you Recommend for gold coins, Silver, or even Platinum... GREAT VIDEO!

  • awe, you guys are such a cute couple.

  • Hi Matt, very good info here, I got the settings for Gain and Disc, but where do you want the threshold setting set to and then on the Trac switch where should that be set to ground, lock or salt?

  • Flagold,

Great videos! I am in the market for a detector and have narrowed it down to the Infinium LS or a Gold bug 2. Which would work better for highly mineralized soil? I am really only interested in gold hunting. I won't be looking for coins or relics. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • @ALVOTTERO : the Infinium was made for highly mineralized soil, it is the correct choice with the caveat that it can't detect an individual flake of gold like the GB II can - it needs a small nugget to see.

  • How much does the Infiniti and the gold bug cost. I am beginner what metel detected should I get that can find gold, iron, coins

And other metal stuff and that not very expensive

  • @TheIcoolable : Just to get in and start finding coins, jewelry, iron, inexpensively, I cannot recommend the Garrett ACE 150/250 or 350 line of detectors highly enough. Everyone reading this will have a differing opinion, but when price is a factor, they are the winners in my opinion. I have used them all and own the 350. You can get to details of many of the detector models at my website (click the treasuresites link) and going to the books, videos, treasure section - select the best price.

  • I am kind of of a noob and I want to get into the prospecting/finding coins or other iron stuff. what metel detector should I get that's not really expensive can find iron, coins ,and gold and if you recommend a metel Detectercan you list the price and the feachers

  • i have a whites 5900 coin master. how well would it do for nugget hunting?

  • @nealj111 : The frequency will tell you if it is an acceptable nugget shooter. 14 KHZ and up are the most sensitive to smaller nuggets - that said, nuggets have been found with all metal detectors, even the ones operating at 6-8. The secret to that is finding the smallest coil available. There won't be much depth at all, but it will pick up the near surface pieces. Good luck!

  • hey how are you! so I got a group of guys to fly out to san gabriel canyon in california to do some prospecting on thursday.. I really wanted to try a metal detector and use your technique with the staking and sluicing. my friend is letting me borrow a Whites XLT.. is this a detector that will do us well? It's hard to find the manual on this one it seems like. Thanks!

  • @scalejetdotnet : the detector to use for following black sands is the Whites GMT. The MXT will also do it, but not at the higher freq of the GMT. You may be able to use the XLT, but you'll need the manual to understand the numbers - download one from Whites and print it. They used to be available. Best of luck!

  • @flagold how well will the gold bug II do for following black sands?

  • @terry455 : Terry: the GBII isn't designed to follow black sands at all. Will not give a readout on soil mineralized content.

  • You need to write a book on Gold Prospecting or even better a DVD i would buy in a heartbeat.

  • very interesting video. ive been metal detecting on some old areas were they use to gold pan but no solid luck. found alot of nice white and red quarts rocks but the one rock i found that i pick up as iron/gold on my detector is some 1inch thick flat rock but i dont think theres gold in it but it makes my detector go off when i move it across the coil. the pin pointer i have did not sound when i tapped it across the rock. any ideas why this flat black rock would make the detector go off?

  • @Coop4447 : you've probably got an iron ore (hot) rock. Goes to figure, black sands are what we look for (and what defeats VLF detectors having as much depth as quartz soils) and that is iron ore granules. Best of luck with the metal detecting!

  • @flagold good point. if i can actuallylocate the old gold panning camp up there ill let you know incase you wanna try it out in the future.

  • hello, as I supposed it is not easy for a beginner to this type of equipment, I sometimes confuse the sounds, I have to spend many hours.

E watched videos on the Internet, to have some reference about how to use it, but not found anything.

my first time at sea was good, I found a rosary ring and several coins, I would not worry too much about the piece of junk, but in this world if more complicated for me is difficult to tell the aluminum and gold coins.

    I am very gratefu

  • @usamor79 : yes, you have it right, the Infinium is a very powerful "pro" type tool. A steep learning curve (that I hope the videos help overcome) but once mastered, will make beaches hunted with other detectors seem as if they've never been detected at all (because of increased sensitivity). Since it was made for detecting small gold (in relation to a ring, etc.), on jewelry you can put the discrimination at "3" quiet the detector down, and lose virtually nothing. Good luck!

  • excellent! thanks to all these videos and information. Buy a Garrett Infinium, deciding the best option. I study how the detector, this weekend will go to the beach and my debut as a treasure hunter ...

    thanks for sharing your knowledge

  • @usamor79 : congratulations! I hope it does the job you want it to do. Picking a metal detector is tough, the best way is to narrow down what you'll use it for the majority of the time and pick the best one in that category (whatever it is). The very best of luck to you in learning the Infinium (it has a learning curve, but the rewards are great once climbed).

  • Great video!! Could you do one showing how to set up the Minelab Gold machines.Id like to see the 4500 in action :).Thx for the video..HH

  • @NiagracountyNY : I have a 2200 that I've thought about showing, but Minelab sends excellent training videos with their units (probably on youtube) and I haven't used mine enough to do better. I tried it for a season and the battery weight and carrying all the gear around was just to much for me (not to mention the cost). The $4500 is nice, but for the same price I could have an Xcaliber, an Infinium, and an MXT and have everything covered . . . You have good vids!

  • More awesome, real-world advice to enhance the prospecting skills of others!

    You are a treasure Matt!

Thanks for all that you and Connie do for the prospecting world.

    Heavy Pans,

    faaus

  • The problem. Its a GA state park. We admired the sparkle in the quartz then replaced the moss. We live a couple of miles from the Etowah river in GA and I think we will be trying our hand at prospecting in the fall when things cool down.

  • Glad to see your back at it Matt. Hope you and the Mrs are staying healthy keep the prospecting vids coming. I was at Aminacola Falls Ga yesterday and my daughters were seeing a few gold sparkles in the water. Well I helped them retrieve them however it was just mica. We did however find a large moss covered white quartz in the stream that had gold in it.

  • thank you, very informative.

  • Awesome is another FINDING GOLD video. Matt is the man.

  • Woah! FINDNG GOLD is back :) its been a while

  • just wondering do all detector thingies sound like a mosquito stuck in your ear?

  • i might just find a dead raccoon or a mean grizzly there (O_o)

cant you just go to the beach?

  • Does he remind anyone else of John Wayne when he talks?

  • what was the name of the last detector ?

  • @ivstiburon the last detector is the White's MXT

  • @pacificcoast thanks

  • @ivstiburon I bought an MXT in May. It's my first detector and a very good one. I've found lots of clad and silver with it. (No gold yet, but I hope to find some soon.)

  • @JRCrowley thanks

  • @ivstiburon the last detector was a White's MXT detector.

  • Great post Matt.Good health to you.

  • Nice one! Thanks Matt!
