I'm not agianst product placement, sometimes its a nessacery evil .After all films have to be funded somehow.Sometimes it's also pulled off with taste,Fight Club and Waynes World demonstrates this. But my god theres alot of whorish examples.
Even though it is basically uses psychological manipulation which we all fall for into buying things unknowingly though little or no merit to the produces function
Josie and The Pussycats has WAY more advertising than Transformers! The entire movie is about advertising through subliminal messages, and they place at LEAST sixty or seventy brands in the movie.
I don't think The Wizard can be topped for product placement, since the entire film was really just a Nintendo commercial and the true stars of the movie were the Power Glove and Super Mario 3.
Well what the hell can you do with TRANSFORMERS? The fact they use licenced cars is the whole reason why people watch it.....name one movie that isnt satrical where people actually like fictional products. I dont like blatant advertising, but some is good, in my opinion.
For white castle, it just sounds like a place to go when you have the munchies. Not like it is a national brand, it is a regional brand like Whataburger.
At least with the Michael Bay movies no-one can tell what the fuck's being advertised because he can't look in the same direction for more than three seconds in a row.
I never understood, honestly, when people go ape shit over produce placement in movies. If a movie is going to present itself as taking place in the real world, having real products is a given. Sure, it can get annoying when ever frame has the produce 100% in perfect view. But if it is just there, then so what.? What was Michael Bay supposed to use for earth cars in Transformers? --Magical FAKE vehicles?
BTW... check Return of the Killer Tomatoes for a real direct stab at Product Placement.
@spooieVAULT I think, at least for me, that it takes people out of the experience of watching a movie. I like going to the movies to escape the woes that I’m having in the real world and that’s why I’m so damn picky when I go to the movies. It’s all a cognitive thing really.
Dislike. Only because it's inconsistent in the sense that when the characters directly refer to the product, it becomes part of the movie. Will Smith cherishing his Converse All-Stars is still advertising, but it's also a part of his character that he loves his old kicks; it's a glimpse of his humanity, which would become important later in the film. Then you have things like the Wayne's World bit, or the Marx Brothers Life Saver bit, which were purposefully blatant for the sake of humor.
Then you look at the Adam Sandler Subway bit, where the character needed to pitch something famous. None of those spots exist without directly referencing the product, so even though it's still product placement, it's also something more and to ignore that aspect of the situation is ignorant. There's a world of difference between things like that and Peter Parker shooting webs at a a Dr. Pepper can, where the only reason to show the logo is for money -- it adds nothing to the scene.
It's just irritating to see a "look at how awful this is" video with no apparent analysis as to why these things were done. There's appropriate an inappropriate uses for name brands in television and movies and this just feels like a knee jerk, "greed-is-bad" reaction. If I'm missing something or off about something, please feel free to bring up a counterpoint.
And honestly, The Wizard? The movie was basically a 90 minute Nintendo commercial, and we're getting bent out of shape about the Power Glove line? Just because the scene sucks doesn't make it any worse than the rest of the film.
they forgot the the small pepsi advert wayne did in waynes world, and also in the same movie where garth gives wayne 2 tablets for a headache. but otherwise its a savage video
I wish you would have mentioned the terminal, a movie Tom Hanks was in which took place inside the shopping district of an airline baggage claim. I think that may have beaten out Michael Bay since product placement of as many things as possible was actually the heart and soul of the film.
I heard Nicorette didn't have to pay for the placement in Meet the Parents, since it showed their product making the cat go insane and destroy a bunch of stuff.
I wonder why "Runaway Bride" ist not in the video. When she jumps on the FedEx-Van: "Where is she going?" - "I don't know, but she'll be there by tomorrow morning."
One of my favorites is Head & Shoulders in Evolution (not in this vid). They do even a hilarious ad at the end of the movie, saying: wow, fighting the alien menace can be tough work. So is keeping your hair clean, shiny and dandruff-free.
Well, I still don't use H&S but maybe if an actual invasion will ever accrue, it might be the first thing I can think of.
In Britain product placement has been illegal on TV. So I notice it all the more in American films. It can really ruin a scene. When you submerged, then the character brings a coke can into shot and somehow the can turns itself during the scene so that "Cocacola" is constantly facing you. Its annoying and ruins it a little. Also, TV shows like "The Apprentice". The US version is basically a commercial for a brand. With Trump obsessing over Disney or a new Pepsi drink. Ugh.
Does product placement really affect sales? I would think people are numb by seeing ads integrated in most aspects of life... I don't even notice when they've placed one in a movie, seeing how something like a vending machine would be common place anyway.

the director is not responsible for product placement deals.
These are approved by the film's producer, and the director has to deal with the compromises
