no its actually not, although the fwd section of the lavi resembles the f-16 everything aft of the cockpit does not. That like saying a 3 series bmw is a copy of a Toyota corolla. Both have stuff in common like 4 doors, a steering wheel but they are not copies.
the only thing the F-16 block truly has in have in common with the fc-20 are the molded external fuel tanks.

First of all flanker271, 4.5 does not necassarily need supercruise.
Two, pakimadarchod, nowhere infront of planes in IAF? please state which (MKI obviously, but any others?).
Third nik007delta, the LCA has taken a QUARTER OF A CENTURY to develop. By the time it goes into service the americans will have the F-35.
And finally the J-XX as a paperproject.. No one can assume that. The PLA is very secretive.

In order to be a 4.5 generation fighter you need at least: supercruise, reduced radar cross-section, high-alpha capability w/o or w/ thrust vectoring, and be multirole. We can't confirm at this time if the J-10 have supercruse capability.

A 5 gen aircraft requires total stealth (not reduced cross-section). Eurofighter is a 4.5 generation aircraft, yet it has supercruise capability. We don't know how reliable the J-10 is, only time can tell. Judging from all the sources I read, the J-10 is a very capable multirole fighter, it just needs better engine. I can also tell you one thing: the LCA is an absolute piece of crap inside and out, despite all the hype Indians are bragging about.

Just because LCA took time does not mean it is a "piece of crap" check out its statistics and then talk all you want. It comprises of everything today a non-stealth conventional fighter aircraft has to offer. Highest composite content, a powerful radar proposd, sufficient fuel load and combat radius for its role, quad redundant FBW; you name it.
