@hempfestguy Thanks for your note! A strain relief is placed around a wire so much of the force due to pulling or twisting of the wire is absorbed by the strain relief instead of the plug/connector. This helps prevent damage to the plug/connector.
Not sure about the origins of the strain relief, however.
