  • It's interesting because I taught English in China for a while, and all their materials teach British English (such as "rubbers") because Oxford makes the majority of English teaching material there. It's ironic because the Chinese have no interest in Britain - they are interested in learning English because they either want to do business with Americans or want to immigrate. I'm guessing it's the same with India.

  • A few years ago I was managing a factory in India for a US-based company. The local manager was very eager to please, but I was puzzled when he said he would ‘prove his authority’ & asked me to point to any worker at random.

    I chose a young lad, but was horrified when the guy then fired him on the spot. The lad broke down & pleaded with me that “my family will starve”, but was forcibly ejected & I didn’t want to undermine the local guy by over-ruling him.

    The incident kinda haunts me still.

  • @SuperTruth77 Wow, that's terrible. I'd feel haunted too, but I can ask you not to feel haunted. It's not your fault.

  • rubber is the british english version of eraser...we learnt the term rubber in our english class here in germany as well

  • regional dialects got to love 'em.

  • Hahah:D OMG...iSaw The Cast Tuhday!:O

    Oh My Goshes! iDid See Themm....Interesting(:

  • This is GE and NBC making fun of Americans not having job because GE offshored all of their work to foreigners. GE should move their asses offshore and take that Yuppie CEO with them.

  • Ahhhh what a great way to get americans to be chipper and happy about letting american jobs be given to even more exploited people than ourselves.

  • "does it work?"

    XD

  • I've called them rubbers all my life, but then I'm London; born and bred :D xx

  • I guess when he asks "Does it work?" he actually means "does the condom work as an eraser?" Not sure though...

  • @mayavi22 Or he asks if condo (not condom which mr. toad says) work as a birth control.

  • "Rubbers"= Erasers

    "Football"= Soccer

    "Aluminium"= Aluminum

    "Flat"= Apartment

    I've lived hear for almost 6 years and I still mess them up! Talk about awkward moments!

  • @IShudBeStudying I just love your username ;D

  • @IShudBeStudying and still can´t spell "here"?

  • @bicnarok Um... Someone's been using my YouTube account. I haven't lived here for 6 years yet. Odd. (BTW, as you can see, I CAN spell "here.") :)

  • @IShudBeStudying oh come on, no need to make excuses. Everyone can make a spelling mistake:)

  • @bicnarok I knew no one would believe me! Ah well, life goes on!

  • @IShudBeStudying I did actually, but decided to fish anyway:)

  • V not in canada

  • YES people, almost every British territory (Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, India, South Africa) call erasers rubbers. I did when I was at school and people stared at me.

  • absolutely hilarious, I am originally from India and in the US for 20 years

  • @neerajsha bet you miss the vindaloo:)

  • HAHA I love it

  • hilarious!

  • Bloody.. height of stupidity, Ams need to learn...

  • I always say I want a rubber when I want eraser in US....thts funny hahahah.....i am frm india :-))

  • Im from UK and this is what we say here, nothing unusual a rubber means eraser. I remember one american was surprised to hear a school kid asking for a rubber in the uk

  • Rubber, Eraser....they r the same thing, we just happen to refer to it by different names. In fact, people in the commonwealth may refer to it as a rubber whereas in America, it's an Eraser.

    The Cultures r just different, its not our fault U (Americans) make every effort to rid urself of the British Influence. U were a colony as well, and that will never change.

    Colour is the same as Color, Organize is the same as Organise... Get over it, America is not the World. Deal with it damn it!

  • @cedricfraser101 Cedric.. I am an American and i have to......totally agree. But its not just us americans that get all arrogant and self righteous. all cultures do it, but yeah... we do tend to do that alot.

  • This reminds me of a Romanian friend of mine who was studying in the USA. He was talking on the phone to his father and his father asked:

    "How is the food there?"

    He answered:

    "The food here has too many preservatives which makes your skin dry."

    The thing is the Romanian word for "preservative" is "conservant". However my friend used the American word which sounds like the Romanian word for condom ("prezervativ"). So in fact he said:

    The food contains too many condoms which makes your skin dry!

  • Sounds like somebody i knew, not so good at english, she meant to say 'I played it (the computer game) by myself' but instead said 'i played with myself for a long time'

  • orderly, Oh sorry my King people in India don't know what a condom is oh its is so wonderful that you are giving us new knowledge on birth control. "what else do you want from us Sahib" Indian's are the most disgrace fully self hating people on the planet. and Indian men are stupid and weak right. "COnDOm oh my god does that work" , all Indians are Orderly. have some self respect at least sell outs

    "AerialDeathFireStyle" sorry you dont see us making cracker jokes or nigger jokes

  • Indians know what condoms are they werent born in the dark ages

  • ohh Does it work.. :O lol....

  • that was hilarious

  • when I had just come from India to L.A. I asked for rubber at my work place...nobody said anything...nobody laughed either...they knew that I am new from India, they did give me an eraser, later on I was told what rubber meant in American English, that is all...

  • what the hell, it is a rubber. an eraser is made of off rubber . dumb bitch acted like sky fell upon her.

  • this is too much...indians are not that ignorant...this is the limit...

  • its a joke, it for the movie :D
