  • I TRY to do this in with my yin practice as well, but have great difficulty. I think it might be due to my scoliosis. I just always lose control of my chest, I cannot hold myself up and it really hurts my back....I do find though, if I place a couple of blankets under my chest, I can do this to a greater degree and feel a nice release. The twist portion of it.(some call eye of the needle)...I have been trying for years, I just can never do it. Downward dog, on the other hand, is fine for me.

I lift weights and my shoulders are tight, and I remember doing Yoga once and finding downward dog very difficult because I was trying to support with my arms and shoulders, and I thought, how is it that these skinny women can hold themselves up and I can't? And now I realize it's not about shoulder strength at all, quite the opposite, it is a shoulder stretch.

  • I do this stretch often in my yin yoga class!

    And I love it too! Such coincidence!
