There were 27 reasons why we separated from Britain & taxation w/out representation was the least reason. Had to do w/religious & civil liberties, the formation of missionary societies, the printing of our own Bibles, & various other religious issues, besides the krytocracy that this country has turned into. Had to do with federal law setting aside the Constitution, the lack of respect of the rights of the colonies -- many of the same reasons Texas is seceding today!
This video narrowly missed greatness. It didn't try to prove that Americans are ignorant of civics (maybe people just didn't want to be hassled while enjoying the monuments... that happened to me a couple of times while in DC in 1993) and it also didn't try to tell people what to believe about anything. Just a young Libertarian guy with the LP's logo on his shirt, asking people an honest question about American history.
One reason I'll never be seen in public media is that, while I may have an above average command of the English language, I am also afflicted with poor pronunciation skills. I would hope that those that delve into the media would make an effort to perfect that particular skill set. I like the premiss, but a poor performance by a fellow libertarian.
Some people define a "free country" as a country that is free to do anything it wants, including stomping all over the rights of others. But a country of a "free people" means the people have bound their government in the chains of a constitution that makes its only job the protection of our rights (and not just of citizens), and does not grant it the authority to violate our rights as people either at home or abroad.
I'm so happy to see Travis Irvine doing another video and getting people to think why we celebrate Independance Day! Now, if people can just make the correlation between the UK of the 1770's and our current government. Some differences, yes, but lots of similarities.
Though next time you might consider an interviewer that doesn't look like someone thats trying to get a gotcha moment. You couldn't have picked better spot though, Washington embodied everything I consider essential in a leader of this nation, no President has possessed them since in my opinion.
@Leavon What about Theodore Roosevelt? and to some extent Dwight Eisenhower? Those are the only men who had the humility and reverence for the job that I can tell (other than Washington)
@cyberbmcd No disrepect to TR - he was articulate, brave, and honest - but humble, I doubt, and reverent, no more or less than any conventional Christian of his time. And certainly he was no believer in limited, Constitutional government, any more than his cousin FDR.
@Leavon The video director is terrible and a waste of money. The interviewer was bad production choice. I subscribe to the LP email list, every time they come out with a video I get an announcement, every time I complain about the quality. Every time no response. The 2 parties are spending big bucks to make slick campaign videos for youtube, facebook etc. These videos show no creativity, have tons or errors, and are not going to appeal to a mass audience. I have seen kids do better work!
@SistershipFunkansas Would you please do some videos for the LP. You seem to know what is needed. Remember 72 words for a 30 second spot or 142 for a minute. Include a link to LP.org @ least 5 seconds of it. Thanks so much in advance. LIBERTY in our LIFETIMES !!! We'll be watching and waiting !!!
