Classical music, for me, sparks such a range of emotions that modern popular music doesn't. Classical, at its best, is raw passion and feeling that, as it carries me along, makes me want to laugh for joy and cry for longing. It shows me what one could describe as a glimps of Heaven which, for now, is beyond my reach.
My take on classical music is that it is a form of music that is of the highest out there. You're also very right in saying that music these days has become almost like a throwaway media. The only other form of music I respect is metal.
