@richlkyl000 Incorrect, Datsun was making aircraft engines in the early 1900's and they changed the name to Nissan no one was bought out. 1980 was the first time that they started putting Nissan and Datsun badges on the cars.
I work at a nissan Dealer. We have a tech there that worked on these when they were new! Needless to say. When we get old Z cars in...he works on them. None of the younger guys can or will touch them. He can make that 2.8 purr.
total dog of a car, until they finally came out with the 280zx turbo, and you could boost the turbo from 5 to 10 just by pulling out a vacuum line. only then did you get a little zip. but still, only a little. most mom type passenger cars today (which come stock with 250hp) can dust the poor Z with its volkswagonish 150hp engine off the traffic light
funny... I have a 2+2 NA 280ZX and have beat the piss out of 5 Litre Rustangs- could be because I don't slow down for corners- find me a "mom type" passenger car that handles as well as a competently piloted Z!
they'll never have the feeling of driving a Z car though. You can argue it all day. my STi is much faster than our Z but I smile every time I take the Z out on a windy road.
The narrator certainly sounds like he says 'lighter radio' @21 sec... but I think he's actually saying 'wider radials'..? I prefer 'lighter radio' though... !
Hell yeah fuel injection was the ticket around all the emissions standards that ruined American cars' performance in the early/mid 1970s. They changed the name because back in the day Nissan didn't think they were going to sell any "Nissan Fairladies" in America. So the "Datsun 240Z" name was born and the rest is history.
@Get908 They actually changed it from Nissan to Datsun because Nissan "sounded to Japanese" for the American market. They later changed it to Nissan in the USA.
"It isn't Datsun, it's Nissan."
