Love her....She was born in Los Angeles and lived here for 80-90% of her life. She grew up singing in her father's church. How could anyone possibly have a problem w/ her singing the national anthem.
She attended the school of general studies? that is basically the community college of columbia university. don't need SATs, GREs or anything like that. woot woot.
@tewkewl she actually majored in English Literature in Columbia Graduate School and She's a UCLA undergraduate. So, don't act like you kno something and underestimate her. I mean like, Can YOU get in there?
she has some skill but her singing can be honed to be better.... I kinda expected more from her xD some parts are kind of awkward.. she is still a rly good singer, though!
such a great singer!! Lena Park is amazing!!! ♥ and frankly speaking, she is both an american and a korean... it doesn't really matter which country she belongs to...
her nationality is american.. sandra lee also is classified as korean by race you dont count her as korean but they both was raised in a english speaking country.
Let me talk one thing. Do you americans like to be called Russian or brazilian or mexican even though you were born in american and you are originally american ?! i hate to be called as a japanse or chinese and you also do. you fucking morons always ask or talk to asians in japanese or chinese languages and some of asian people are really sensitive because of the experience being colonized by Japan. shut the hell up or think before asking and don't think that poor people have poor thoughts
If you don't consider her an American, None of the Black White Yellow (alphabetical order) people should consider themselves as Americans.
Using your ideology, the true Americans are the Indians ;)
And you should can yourself by the name of which state you were born in. If you were born from from California, raised in NY and works in Alaska, you're nothing!
You aren't Californian, New yorker or Alaskan.
If you truly believe that you're American, I'm pretty sure you say that Lena is too.
@hyungsup2 hey! true Americans aren't indians! there native americans :3 people just refered to them an "indians" because Columbous though he landed in India when he discovered the Americas :P
What's wrong with Korean-Amreican singing both countries' national anthem... Btw if you diss her about making the anthem into R&B well guess what SHE IS A R&B SINGER
I can't believe what I'm reading. I came to this page to see a real artist sing, not get in a mindless debate about worthless sh** that's irrelevant to how incredibly intelligent and talented this woman his. Shame on you people! Anyways, Lena Park is amazing!
Honestly, if you don't enjoy the video, why would you watch it in the first place? Do you have nothing better to do with your time than to make ignorant and disgusting racist comments? Rather than putting all your energy into coming up with the most vulgar comment you possibly can, try expending that energy on something useful - school perhaps? Seeing as you refer to her as a "chink" - which applies to Chinese person..she's Korean; not all Asians are Chinese...go get an education + 다들놀고있넹 ㅡㅡ;;
i've never had the urge to listen to the national anthem so many times in a row.... this is my 6th time listening to it lol.... it just sounds so beautiful when sung in this way.. i can feel the song lol..
To the racist idiots, did you attend Columbia or even thought of attending there? did you graduate magna cum laude? were you in the top 5% of the graduates? do you know English better than her? are you a member of the Pi Beta Kappa? did you get all A's your whole life? did you get accepted to all colleges you registered to?
She was born in USA and lived here for 80-90% of her life. She didn't even speak Korean fluently until recently.
@iTzMyFancySauce so whos an american to you? are you native american? no.
so who has the right to sing the national athem? so you expected a white person?
if an exchange student who was white sang this song and you didn't know she was an exchange student cause she spoke english without an accent, would it be okay then?
go back to the racist cabinet you came from you sorry excuse for a human being.
@iTzMyFancySauce Oh wow. SHE IS KOREAN AMERICAN. SHE LIVED IN AMERICA FOR MOST OF HER LIFE. THE LEAST THAT YOU COULD HAVE DID IS RESEARCH HER ON THE INTERNET INSTEAD OF JUST POSTING THIS BASED ON YOUR IDEAS OF HER.
@iTzMyFancySauce She is American. Born and raised in the USA. Guess that's why white Americans are consider so ignorant. They don't even know there own laws.
Funny how the fcked up fckers that disliked this video are probably idiots that has been taking up the free air in America for no reason. Just be grateful that this wonderful Korean singer actually took the time to sing our American National Anthem beautifully, she's probably more patriotic to this country that you fckers would ever be..... Fck off and watch more of your fcken rock idiot songs or listen to some stupid country songs....muthafckers!!
It's just amazing how she graduated from Columbia while taking breaks to continue her music career in Korea and still be able to be in Phi Beta Kappa. She's always wanted to go back to school and was able to achieve that dream when she was 34 years old. I'm sure it was a great honor for her to sing at her graduation and she probably wanted to make this song her own :)
She has a lovely voice. I'm sure any criticism has nothing to do with her Nationality....but with the "vocal acrobatics" , which so many seem to feel is a necessary augmentation of a difficult ( to sing) National Anthem. Please don't bring race or Ethnicity into it.....that's not it at all.. Personally the "warbling" distracts me as well.....no matter how pure the voice. Save that for Jazz and R&B vocals.
@asksophie now say that to christina aguilara. <--- did I spell that right? cuz her projection of her voice is, in my opinion very similar to R&B and Jazz vocalists. she even got the lyrics wrong. And there should be a specific way to sing the anthem. It should just depend on how much the person has pride in America :D
For everyone who posted anti-comments, I'm surprised to see you boasting about "national pride" and "disgrace". She IS American (born in US), so you should be proud to hear your own anthem. @theonlyjsp you're pretty stupid. what the hell do you know about lena park? she considers as a korean and has been active in korea for about 17 years. Living in a country and being born in u.s. may make you a citizen, but would it mean that you are truly american? come to your senses and shut the hell up if you don't know anything. Ignorance cannot an excuse in common days.
@GN001FTW person like you would support war in Iraq and Repiblicans with all your energy and screamed out USA when you heard Bin Laden got killed, but WOULD NEVER HAVE BALLS TO ACTUALLY BE A PATRIOT AND DO SOMETHING FOR THE COUNTRY.
talk about being a true american. what the hell do you do anyway?
@GN001FTW You're pretty stupid. She was born and lived in the USA until her early twenties then she went to Korea to become a singer. During those time in Korea she came back and forth to get her education. Does that mean that anyone under the age of 20 that lives in the USA isn't a "real American"?
i think lena park has an unbelievable gifted voice, but for some reason, i didn't like the way she sang the anthem. regardless, her great talent is a fact.
i think im more amazed that she was able to graduate magna cum laude, even though she probably had her own schedule in korea
omgsh, what's with all these pussy's fighting about her voice, if you think she's bad, let's see you get to her level of recognition first then open your mouth to talk shit about her cuz we all know her musical knowledge and experience if def better than yours
Lena Park didn't overdo it. Everyone sings the national anthem that way. Plus, she's an R&B singer with a background in gospel music, so I don't expect her to sing it just straight out.
And it might not be her best performance but so what it happens to everyone at sometime^^ Listen to her other mv's you'll know what I'm talking about. Peace!
Thoses who didnt like her song can go listen to the superbowl national anthem of this year and compare. Check it out lol ---> superbowl national anthem 2011
노래는 정말 잘 하는데... 저거 내가 보기에는 무슨 graduation 할떄 국가 부르는거 같은데 저렇게 불러가지고는;;
I luv her voice its really beautiful... but isn't she singing the American anthem?? she should shake her body/head that much.. for performances I bet it will be fine... to express her feeling but this is singing a anthem.... she should shake that much;;; lol
@koharu0208 if u think my English is bad then reply it in English. So I can know how good YOUR English is to say I need more study for it. I just wrote it in English for people who doesn't know Korean can understand what I was trying to say.
plus, why r u talking about how my English is??? when this vid. is about a singer/song?
wtf who cares if she's moving her head/hands a little? you want her to just stand there and sing without emotion like some idol groups? I don't see anyone complaining about Mariah Carey moving her body when she sings.
You make us proud! It is not all about how you are good at singing.. and trust me you sing better than most Mtv stars in US.. but the fact that you can represent not only koreans.. but the Asians in the US... makes me stand up and clap as hard as i can for your awesome performance.
I recommend you have to listen her other songs in live, you can't understand Korean lylics though. This video doesn't show her real talent. I wasn't a big fan of Park, but I suppose she is great singer.
Speak English here since the song is American national anthem, or don't even say any bullshit like?? hey DchoiHY! i think koreans have the right for speaking korean since lena park is KOREAN american. and no one cursed about american national anthem. if you are right, non-korean-speaker cant comment in their own lauguage like english on korean national anthem vid?

Lena Park didn't overdo it. Everyone sings the national anthem that way. Plus, she's an R&B singer with a background in gospel music, so I don't expect her to sing it just straight out.
oxfordacious1 8 months ago 3
We all know that she's a good singer,
but she is one of those singers that loses control at times...
and she did it here again..
How it's more about her and not so much about the song anymore...............
righteousfied 8 months ago
I'm a fan of Lena's, but I think she overdid it a bit.

And it might not be her best performance but so what it happens to everyone at sometime^^ Listen to her other mv's you'll know what I'm talking about. Peace!

노래는 정말 잘 하는데... 저거 내가 보기에는 무슨 graduation 할떄 국가 부르는거 같은데 저렇게 불러가지고는;;
I luv her voice its really beautiful... but isn't she singing the American anthem?? she should shake her body/head that much.. for performances I bet it will be fine... to express her feeling but this is singing a anthem.... she should shake that much;;; lol

American Anthem

@koharu0208 if u think my English is bad then reply it in English. So I can know how good YOUR English is to say I need more study for it. I just wrote it in English for people who doesn't know Korean can understand what I was trying to say.
plus, why r u talking about how my English is??? when this vid. is about a singer/song?
mind ur own business.

wtf who cares if she's moving her head/hands a little? you want her to just stand there and sing without emotion like some idol groups?
