  • Pripyat.

  • This is sad......The real sad part about it is, this is the neighborhood I group up in 0.21.....lol Thank god I finished school and made something of myself.

  • i live in Canada. I have driven through a number of abandoned neighbourhoods out of interest, during the times when I have to drop someone off at the airport.

  • was one of them Centreal Station? I know thats not the complete name but I forget what it is called

what happened to that building or is it still abandoned

  • @canadiancatgreen It dident show the the MICHIGAN central station, its been abandoned since 1988 they've been recently putting new windows and a new roof on it.

  • @abazaba201 ok thank you hat was the one at 0:17

  • @canadiancatgreen That was the Salvation Army Harbor Light Center

  • Maybe you are on to something here? I live in LA in the San Fernando Valley and here in LA we get alot of the nuts from the rest of the country and elsewhere, it is the nation's trash can.

In ghettos like Hollywood etc. there are alot of these morons that pay big bucks to live in a slum building and maybe these same idiots could be relocated to the abandoned buildings in Detroit, they can sit around and write their scren plays there that no one wants and we could make money off of them.

  • Too bad I live in michigan 20 mins away from that piece of crap, I've seen it all!

  • Like the music..anyone know what it is?

  • @mrbrewhaha It's standard youtube music. If you do an audioswap on your vids and search for music you'll find it. I tried looking at the innards of the video, but unfortunately youtube doesn't seem to remember what the music is either.

  • I love the building on the corner at the 0:21 mark

  • I think that everybody is getting the hell out of Detroit because the Lions are so bad

  • @djrodas11 4-0 is bad?

  • i live like 40 minutes away form Detroit they have some scary things there

  • Looks like every city in the US

  • Comment removed

  • great video! :)

  • Detroit City and the neighborhoods looks like your in Habana Cuba

  • Got to hand it to them, the streets were clean though; you should put a StarBuck's and JiffyLube on every corner, like we have here. Those are the only two American businesses left...

  • I just want to clarify that is NOT the tiger stadium.. That is the Comerica Park. They decided to rip down the historical site tiger stadium.

  • I don't know if this sounds like a stupid question, but why are parts of detroit abandoned?

  • @Django5198 .. Detroit is a dieing city, everyone has left. Jobs have left.

  • Tell me you did not just disrespect the world's largest tire?! ;)

  • @illybean hhahaha

  • we gotta start putting VERY heavy taxes on imports.....and none on EXPORTS

%100 AMERICAN MADE means much more now than ever !!!!

  • lol i love the description and comments it seems detriot is almost as empty as alaska

  • @pureefficient thanks :) glad you liked the description. it was a fun trip :)

  • Our economy won't turn around until we wake up to the truth of life and invest in endeavors that will pay for themselves, such as nationwide conversion to clean energy. Go to TruthContest(dot)com and read The Present. What it says will turn this world right-side up. You will see what I mean when you read the first page.

  • Detroit & many other large cities have been devestated by the loss of manufacturing jobs which created the mass poverty we mave today. All because of the greed of corporate America looking for cheap labor overseas. At Wal-mart, they sell very few items that are American made, at Target, even fewer. Wake up folks, boycott foreign made products & buy American, "if you can even find any", to save an American job & try to combat all this blight, poverty &crime as well.

  • @alloutoftime that's one way to look at it. But in reality if companies like GM didn't move a lot of production abroad and out of Michael Moore's beloved Flint, they would not be able to compete with companies like Hyundai and soon to come Chinese companies. They only became competitive when they restructured union obligations through bankruptcy. And soon they will sell more cars in China then US. Detroit did not diversify. There are many cities flourishing without manufacturing.

  • This is what happens when corporate America sends production to third world countries for cheap labor. Most name brand clothes: made in China or Pakistan, Ford Focus: made in Mexico, Buick Regal: made in Germany, Nabisco Fig Newtons: made in Mexico, where the workers are paid shit wages & are subject to daily abuse. I thing that the federal government should raise sales taxes on products produced by American companies where more than 25% of their goods are made abroad. BUY AMERICAN "if you can".

  • Anyway, bottom line is, a city is what you make it. There are cities who have areas just as bad as Detroit (Miami, New Orleans, New York) but I've always believed that Detroit gets bashed/written off more mainly because it's majority black. It's also because things are really fucked up here, even more so due to the economy tanking, the Big 3 laying off, but not so fucked up that nothing can't be done about it. If I didn't believe changes could be made here, I would have given up a long time ago!

  • in the city that black people always had to fight against---hell, there was even a riot in the city back in the 40's simply because black people were moving into a housing project next to white folks for the first time---the white people there threw a fucking fit and started rioting----the police had to be called on them just so the black residents could move into their homes in one piece. Then the white folks actually built a wall to separate themselves from their neighbors, which is still there

  • @statelybird3 Funny stuff, In this end result I can see why they did that. We have cleveland schools that were nice but now all we have is riots in the schools, only they arent white.

  • . I mean, the city has museums and places to go just like ANY other city---hell, we even have festivals and shit (the ones still that weren't eliminated by city budget cuts). We're not just one big damn ghetto---fuck what everybody else tells you---I LIVE here, so I know! White folks who moved out of the D act like black people just up and ruined the city for no reason----that 's some bullshit, because black folks have been living in Detroit for nearly 300 years now. It was the hardline racism

  • @statelybird3 Did you really say 300 years, ago people lived in Detroit? More funny..

  • @pipersmitty Detroit was founded in 1701 under the name Fort Pontchartrain by a frenchman named Antoine de Lamothe Cadillac. 310 years ago.

  • farming craze that's been going on for the past couple of years, in which folks are taking abandoned land (that's not polluted) and growing fruit and vegetables on it and selling them, there's Detroiters for Environmental Justice, Detroiters Against Police Brutality, DPS parent groups----all are doing their best they can to make a difference in this city. So fuck what Dimebag Asshole Darell and mrploat said---they probably don't even live here. I mean, the city has museums and places to go just

  • Believe me, people are not just sitting around here going, "Oh, fuck it all, woe is me and my poor ass," black, white and peoples of ALL colors are busting their asses to make this city a decent livable place to live in, and to fight for each other's rights. Of course, they never get any credit outside the D---stories about somebody getting shot and killed or other horrible shit gets highlighted more than any positive things we do here. Like, you never hear about the urban farming craze that's

  • I'm with a community activist group here in the D who have been fighting foreclosures for the last 3 years here in the D---we've actually managed to save a few homes here and there, and even tried to get a bill passed to put a halt on all foreclosures so people could actually keep their homes instead of having to leave and then after the bank gets compensated for the home, the houses are just left to sit there and rot. Yeah, it's bad here, but people are doing a hell of a lot of things about it

  • The reasons there are so many more abandoned buildings here in the city is due to the high foreclosure rate (Michigan also has the highest unemployment rate nationwide period, which led to the high foreclosure rate). To DImebag Darrell: Apparently, you're never bothered to see any part of the city, because the downtown area has been spruced, it looks WAY better then it did 10 yrs ago, and the whole fucking city isn't a ghetto--funny how nobody bothers to film the good parts of the city left.

  • @mrploat

You don't know what the hell you're talking about---I'm a Detroiter who grew up in the suburbs, and the downward spiral started after the riot when many of the major companies pulled up and left the city, taking the tax bases with them ---THAT'S what happened. Read THE ORIGINS OF THE URBAN CRISIS, by Thomas Sugrue (an ex-Detroiter also). Black people had to fight for EVERY damn thing they needed in Detroit---down to decent jobs, housing,to get into a union--all of that.

  • Wow. Is this Somalia?

  • @everyone who replied. Thanks for your responses - naturally in the UK we dont get to hear of the various issues behind the headlines.

We lost a lot of industry when the US overtook our production methods decades ago but we did eventually manage to renovate a lot of old run down cities and towns. Not saying that the US has to do that, but I just thought I'd say what there are a lot of Europeans who think the world of Americans (you saved us twice!), regardless of what problems you're having.

  • detroit is the only shithole in america that makes cleveland look good

  • @lordironrat Im sorry, but I've been to Cleveland and was bored to death. Very little unique architecture, nothing to do at night but drink at a pub like anywhere else.

  • @whotolduso you missed the point they are both shitholes

  • @lordironrat What exactly is a "shithole" to you? If its determined by the abandoned houses count, I'd say Detroit is bigger. If you want to take into account unique stimulating places to go and do, amazing turn of the century architecture, ill take Detroit.

  • @whotolduso you take detroit then nobody else wants it.

  • @whotolduso Gay, Detroit sucks.

  • Why not renovating the whole area?.

  • This is sad. Even though behind these ruins there are still some cobbled side streets with totally intact and non abadoned beautiful 19th century houses. If i was black I would buy a .44 and move there. I love historism.

  • HERES A SCARY PLACE HAUNCHYVILLE IT'S HAUNTED

  • I don't think they would want to advertise it, did you actually ever get out of your car in Detroit and walk around in one of those old abandon buildings? It's not very safe at all, and I'm talking mainly about people around or in some of those buildings. Not a good idea

  • Check-out West Ravenwood St. The stuff shown in this video consists of public buildings, but that St is a perfect example of a ruined residential neighborhood, all too common now in Detroit. GoogleMap Street View of it will sadden you greatly.

  • @BoyScout1960 I believe the street you are referring to is W. ROBINWOOD.

  • @sailboatnut

Thank you for the correction. I admit that I was mistaken.

And God knows, the place looks like an army went through it.

  • The vid is too fast and too short. But I think your concept is good.

-From accross the border and up north-

  • whats the name of the tune in this?

  • @propjam2

Hot for Teacher by Van Halen

  • @buffaloborn71 some how dont think so? ha ha ha ha good song through!

  • so so sad!! It breaks my heart to see this

  • for shits and giggles....go to detroit...cross the river into Windsor...and see which one is nicer..except for all that french bullshit canada is somewhat refreshing

  • Hello from England. Tell you something - the economy may have tanked but a lot of these buildings are more than worth saving when it gets back again. So are the cities and so are the people. Tell those daft sods in charge to outlaw outsourcing and get give Americans the jobs.

Regards from the UK and hope you get back on your feet.

  • @mrploat i am from michigan and i worked at a factory that was outsourced, michigan has lost over 3000 factories since 2000

  • @mrploat i second that, from london :)

  • @mrploat Thanks man. You're the first European who has had anything positive to say about us Americans. Thank you :D

  • @mrploat Detroit is NEVER coming back. That the population is only cut in half makes things sound far better than they are. One third of the 900,000 remaining are living on government transfer payments. The other two thirds are dangerous immigrants and illegal immigrants. Detroit's ruin has nothing to do with the economy, and everything to do with dangerous, violent PEOPLE....people so dangerous, you can't even send a salvage crew in to strip the buildings.

  • @megaswenson All those dangerous people came all the way from other countries (Like....what? CANADA?) to live and prosper in the Capitol Wasteland. This is Economic Climate at it's best. Not Terrorists driving out the Noble White Man from his precious land which wasn't his when he got here. If anything...I think WE'D BE the illegal, dangerous immigrants to the real people of this land, if they had believed in making up rules outside of natural law before we got to them

  • @mrploat Nice words but one as to understand that the auto industry has little to do with the decay of Detroit. The downward spiral started 50 years ago by the leftist leaders that made Detroit dependable of government handouts under the model cities program. Once the white flight started and the tax base took a free fall there was no going back. Detroit was killed by its own leaders, it is a very sad story for a city so rich in history.

  • @mrploat Thank you, Mr. Ploat:) If we could just get our Congress to stop bickering and actually do something....

  • A dieing city at best..

  • Roll um up

  • Most most of detroit is a shithole. I just like going to Comerica Park

  • @DimebagDarrellCFH13 So wrong most of detroit is really nice, only about six blocks are a shithole

  • @jackospade1

What fucking part of Detroit have you been two? Six block my ass. I can show you miles and fucking miles of terrible parts of detroit. LOL only six blocks, yeah maybe in 1956.

  • Umm, most other large older cities have the abandoned buildings as well.

  • I was just in Chattanooga, TN and observed a similar scene - this problem is no longer confined to Detroit. We need to start taking pride in ourselves, our cities and country.

  • Les Stroud should do a Survivor Man episode in the worst part of Detroit.

  • @jtno2 lol are you fucking crazy......do you not like les stroud????might as well send bear grylls..jk

  • @jtno2 I dont remember who it was but discovery made on episode called "Apocalypse man" a few months ago, its all in detroit

  • what a nice music.

  • i bet a tribe of human like creatures was formed and has been thriving in those buildings for years untouched by man kind

  • @iamjordandavoll we call them the lions victory parades. that made me sad inside.

  • Detroit is a tourist attraction for urban explores.

  • Detroit has never really recovered from the riot they had in the sixties

  • @1475lucky They were fine after the riot, it was Roger Smith who killed GM(and thus Detriot with it) by outsourcing all the jobs.

  • What is the name of the song on this video? It is a very lovely song.

  • crack house upon crack house

  • the rennissance center isnt vacant. Its GM's headquarters, theres a hotel in it, some shopping thing, and a resturant on the top floor.

  • with democrats and scumbags and drugs who needs nukes

  • @jagrench62 This was capitalism that did this. Roger Smith wanted to make some quick cash, so he took GM's good reputation- then outsourced all the jobs to untrained workers, used shotty materials, and then people realized the cars were crap now. Most of the "scumbags" used to work for GM until Roger Smith outsourced their jobs to make the company more money.

  • @niceparkjob they're sorta tearing it down.

  • Its called comerica park

  • ahhh that's not tiger stadium...that's comerica park...tiger stadium was the old park

  • @niceparkjob keword: was. i mis it

  • @goodcheesema.....was? they didn't demolish tiger stadium and build comerica park on the same site....tiger stadium was used to shoot some movies after it shut down...comerica park is a couple blocks down the road...not sure if that's what you meant or not....

  • I brought 2 properties in detroit, working on 3 more which will increase my income

    by $2500 a month.

If you see any property that is a good deal there e-mail me.

They said that allentown will not come back it did.

It may take 20 years, but it will come back.

right now is the time to buy properties there.

you do not buy properties when everyone is not. I just closed on a 4 unit for $25,000

2 are renting threw section 8 for $600 each you cannot get a return on that in stocks or mutual funds

  • The racial makeup of the city was 81.6% Black, 12.3% White, 1.0% Asian, 0.3% Native American, 0.03%

  • ahhh... the result of good old Unions, Socialism, and government-backed business.

  • I think that it may be a little more complex than you seem to think.

  • wow, you arent used to the Internet. we use fun, snappy little comments on here, and often they are sarcastic. sorry i didnt have room to type my manifesto. see, there is another one!!! you'll get it. keep trying.

  • That's the tip of the iceberg.

  • oh I know. 2 guys from Detroit work for me in Memphis now. they always say how it is basically a ghost town in places. at least we have infrastructure to relocate all the homeless to! lets do it!! hell, why be cold and hungry on the street when you can be cold and hungry in your own home?

  • Being tied to the American industry that -in large part- ruined the economy of this country, you got what you deserved. The greedy bastards in the unions and management deserve jail time for what they have done. You've ruined peoples lives, ruined their families. GM and Chrysler, you are to blame... I hope all the union heads and management sleep well at night, because there are thousands who can't worried about their future. What goes around, comes around...

  • you are absolutely right. and now GM has their Bama-check for millioins, and all the sudden the US govt is coming down hard on Toyota and leaving GM alone. big conflict of interest now that the Guv-ment is in the car business. GM deserves to suffer, not get "Bama Billions".

  • I'm pretty sure the Uniroyal Tire and Comerica Park aren't abondoned.

  • If I were you, I'd move. Just saying. If I lived in one of the most places in the U.S., I'd certainly move.

  • here is an idea how about electing some conservatives to run the city for a change.

perhaps bring in some free enterprise to get jobs back.

kick out thouse liberal bums that have run that town into the ground.

  • its beyond fixing at this point, the unions have already ruined it

just level the whole city and start over

  • or relocate all the homeless there, as long as they keep the grass cut.

  • It was CONservatives who put the city in the mess. you idiot

  • sorry to give you a fact here but Detroit has been run by libs for almost 40 years

  • it was CONservatives who ran the big auto companies in the ground. that caused the detorit area to fall.

unfortunally detorit built it self around one big company.

when the big wheels was making good money everything was ok, then when they went under everybody was screwed

  • you are a nut.

the auto industry was run into the ground by themselves and foreign comp.

The other massive factor was the frikin unions with ridiculous wage and benefit demands. way way over valued employees.

Sorry Bubo but to suggest it was conservatives (defenders of the free market and liberty) that brought Detroit down is absolutely delusional.

  • foxmutt you do not know what your talking about.

First, "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE MARKET" either big business controls little business or the government controls it,

    the builderburg groups controls evreything

if the foreign companies ran it into the ground again goes to show you that bigger business has an affect

the unions gave into everything tthey asked, and they still lost their jobs.

the ceos gettings millions in bonus for failing is stupid

  • the "builderburg groups"....oh fuck another Alex Jones wing nut.

    more infowars BS.

I only deal in the real world.

    Kids stay off the drugs.

  • didnt oyu here that Fuck news is not really new?

again no such thing as the FREE MARKET.

and I do not believe in the voodoo majic of the market place.

  • is it just me or can anybody else not understand this guy.

  • It is you. your just 14 years old, but what can we expect form parents like yours.

agian, just like when wal-mart comes in and destorys all the small business in the town then move out.

    then same thing

    pure capitlism is pure evil

  • you are a simpleton.

do yourself a favor and stop the infowars bull shit. stop listening to the soap opera Alex jones and read a book.

  • I do read books.

I do not base all my information on the FUCK NETWORK.

why do you want to live all the bread crumbs fo the super rich.

why don't you get out start cutting grass for somone and see how capitism really works.

when you thank that your good at something there are 10 other guys that are better and cheaper then you

  • yes and I am that guy that is better and cheaper than you.

  • your just 14 year old boy,you do not even know how to cut grass.

your mama probably has to do it

  • acutaly I am 8

    as for the grass cutting.

sounds like you may need the work.

or are you waiting for your Obama hand-out.

  • actually I know who you are going to tell your mama and daddy now.

    catch you

  • dude, you need to listen to Whiskey. he is right.

  • EXACTLY. and "they went under" due to unions and liberal agendas that forced the companies out of business. idiot. ignorant. flag burner.

  • Absolut-ly. i agree and you are right.

  • boy whiskey you are sorry, have to have 2 screen names to win a debate,.

I know who you are wait till I tell your mama what your doing.

  • ok, you sound like a paraniod liberal , ok? i am not whiskeytangofoxtrot: i just saw all the comments and agreed with him, and since you made this comment, i also agree with him that you are a nut. a wacko liberal crazy goofball paraniod elitist nut. flag burner.

  • solution for homeless people maybe ?

  • thats EXACTLY what I said!!! why be cold and hungry on thye street when you can be cold and hungry in your own home or shared factory space? i am sure Bama can allocate money to re-locate them to these abandoned buildings, as long as they agree to keep the grass cut and not burn them down. "cooking fires are permitted as long as they are not made inside the structure"..LOL!!!

  • What's with the cranes in the background? Must be building something....

  • I don't see what the big deal is. Footscray, Australia is no different what I see in the video. Actually, I'd rather be in that video than here.

  • It's like someone dropped the neutron bomb.

  • Greed Decays.

  • It's over baby. We won the cold war?

  • I think Detroit must be the ugliest city of the world. At least of West countries.

  • It has such a history. I love it here and I really love the abandoned buildings. I find it to be very beautiful in a way, so beautiful I even used the packard plant to do my senior pictures in awhile ago. The art work on some of the buildings is just really good. Depends how you look at things, I personally think Detroit is beautiful.

  • the homeless all live in the abondoned buildings.

  • put a fork in detroit, its over..:(

  • ahh detroit rock city

  • Democrats and their Socialist allies...Yes! Let's do to the Rest of the Nation what they've done to Motown...

  • capitalist is the blame, build a company buld a city around it then move the company over seas for cheap labour

  • Detroit will be return in full bloom like the Phoenix. Unfortunately it'll be a while.

  • but you should buy now in detroit. I did like you said It iwll come back like allentown pa did after the steal factories closed

  • It's kind of a gamble on how long your investment would take to repay itself without a clear plan to turn things around. Plus not many people have the kind of liquid capital sitting around after the economy tanked last year. It would take a significant investment to make things better for the folks in Detroit. Only time will tell how long it takes to turn around.

    Unfortunately.

  • about to reach that point of not having enough liquid capital. I got 5 investment properties own them free and clear had borrow against CDS to but them.

now banks want lend againt the properties even though they are all making a good cash flow.

but I figured If I just paid off the loans with what I got in 2 years I will have them paid off.

    I just picked up a 4 unit for $25,000 each one renting for $400 a month.I put $1,000

a month toward the principal. so in then 24 months it is mine

  • Yeah...That about sums it all up. I mean I live right outside it and theres not much going on. We have a hockey team and you have to get a conceled pistol liscense to walk to the corner gas station after dark.

  • I visit Detroit and see desolation. Hip-high weeds and vast empty lots filled with trash...furniture, building materials, etc. Abandoned buildings fill the city. I got lost near Ambassador Bridge in a rusty abandoned factory complex, by misplaced detour signs.

If terrorists had done this to the U.S. there would be a war over it, but we did it to ourselves.

  • While Detroit is suffering on a much larger scale, it is getting more common to see abandon commercial buildings in my own small town.

  • ehh ...exscuse me but last time i checked comerica park was not abandoned n if ur gonna critize detroit we dont need ur retarded as vidoes ya feel me ..well i really dont care so stfu with this dum viedo

  • Why use Comerica, why not the old Tiger's Stadium?

  • Why the hell were you surprised that Detroit has lots of abandoned buildings? It's frikin Detroit.

  • Well, if you do go urban exploring, avoid the old train station. Under police surveillance night and day. They don't fuck around. Last time I went they snuck up on us with guns drawn and almost arrested all of us. They're Canadian pacific railroad cops or something. Crazy.

  • Never had any issues there.

  • detroits a shit hole

  • Yeah, Detroit's a shit hole. But it's my shit hole.

  • whats the song

  • i like the old car factorys

  • are the apt buildings abandoned as well??

  • borught a couple of 4 units there for $25,000 each and 1 2 unit for $20,000 each one renting out threw section 8 for $600 each.

there are some big multi units there but it takes a lot to rehab them.

stick with the up to 4 units you can make good money off from 2 or 3 of these

  • Ahh.....Detroit. The pollution, the crack, the guns.....my kind of town.

  • detroit is a sweet city. i love going up there and exploring the abandoned buildings

  • So you pretty much just walk around and no one (ie. cops) bothers you? I'd love to take a couple of days and do that, mainly for photography.

  • yea man, that's all there is to it. Once I was in the Packard plant with a few friends and we actually ran into another group of people exploring. No one cares, I think it helps the city because it generates tourism

  • Agentmufff, as a resident of a suburb called Warren im only 1/2 mile north from the city.

But if you are going to explore I would HIGHLY recommend you bring some type of protection that you are SKILLED with.

Because cops arnt the ones to bother you at all my friend they are your last worry.

  • So you're saying that I should either go with Robocop or just stay home?

Maybe I can look for urban exploration groups that plan on going in larger groups so that there some sort of safety in numbers.

  • I read that there are 60 square miles of Detroit that is abandoned. I would love to tour the abandoned areas, but don't want to get shanked by hobos

  • bring a gun

  • Duly noted

  • bring 2 guns

I hired a person to show me around where to go and not to to
