If you are looking for the score that played in the German release of the film, it was: "Theme of Sadness" which plays at the end of the movie when The Child-Like Empress and Bastian are talking.

The American Version doesn't actually exist on any of the soundtracks.

I remember when I was just a little kid watching this movie. and all of a sudden Artax was sinking, i was crying my eyes out. Ughh even to this day, i still HATE watching that part. Anyone Agree?

The version used in the american version of the movie is part of Giorgio Moroders soundtrack, which has never been released in its original form. There is a song called "Swamps of sadness" uploaded on Youtube, but its not the original version.
