These were really great years! The seventies, particularly the mid to latter part of the seventies had a lot of great mellow songs from them. England Dan and John Ford Coley, Seals and Crofts, Ambrosia, etc. Great times to be alive!
@78imua This song was a major radio hit back in 1979. I heard it on the radio all the time. It reminds me of my junior year of high school...wow, what good and bad memories this song brings back for me!
@mustwinder yep just checked out BLB's version....I don't like his inflection on the song....MJ sang this one smoother while the other version is trying too hard or something.....nothing like the original....I agree...
@429thunderbird ? I didn't know there was any other version. This was IT to my knowledge. I guess I missed something but it doesn't sound as if it was as good.
Reminds me of New years Eve 1990 a girl I was seeing was cheating on me with her old boyfriend at a party we were both at. It sucked i has to witness it. They next day I never saw her again. Met my wife four months later.
Always loved this song. It was in the musically-wonderful '70's when my kids were teenagers and I saw them through all their heartbreaks and happiness, with such great tunes as this and the immortal Jim Croce's and John Denver - they go on and on. Good to hear it again, and this time it doesn't hurt my heart as it did then.
In 2004 I was in college and in love with this girl. So I made her 14 CDs with a bunch of 70's and 80's lost hits and this was on one of them. And, although she left me for a mediocre baseball player, I still get chills when I hear this song because it evokes such vivid memories of happiness for me. She was just too young to appreciate my love at the time and unfortunately I didn't invoke the same happiness she did me. These things happen and I'm stronger for it. Phenomenal song!
Ah, 1979. Out of college, snow skiing all winter, water skiing all summer, head over heels with a lovely lady who never had any interest in me. And this song summed it all up for me (except she was honest). And it did not last forever, I met my future wife, and we've been together for so many happy years now. But the poignancy of the song, and the fabulous performance will never leave me. Thanks for bringing it back, been so long since I've heard it.
Michael Johnson IS a fine and very under rated singer. He is still on tour and sings well. Plus his wonderful guitar. Saw him in concert in December 2010 in Zumbrota, MN. Check out my videos, if you want.
This song has always remained one of my favorites, it made me feel good back when I first heard it in 79, and still does. Thanks for posting and sharing this wonderful song.

Songs like this will never again be written. His music gives pause to know why music was given to us.

Beautiful Song. I'm so surprised that I've never heard of this song. Was it famous in the late 70s or early 80s?

It is a very nice old school recording too. Miss those old skills of playing together and listening to each other. BTW he hits every note just great.

Michael hit #19 in Billboard, 11-17-79. His last pop hit, before he went country in '85. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!
