  • Pure innocent Americana. You don't see that anymore.

  • Wow...love her native tongue ...as pretty as she is.

  • This is the best-known answer in the history of the pageant. Second is the reply of her little sister when Bert Parks asked her if she planned to run for Miss America.

  • the queen at the end clapping on the far left is miss oklahoma, who later placed 2nd runner-up...she is anita bryant...

  • Great personality, love the accent! =D

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I've been searching for footage for ages, and had actually given up. I've known for years that I'm related to this beautiful and amazing woman, and have never been able to really see any of her work other than her most famous movies. She really does take you back to a time when the Miss America pageant meant more than just controversy. And I love her Old South accent. It's kind of a Mobley staple that I missed out on. :)

  • Her answer was so honest, pure, and genuine and thoughtful. If you were to ask a contestant for Miss America now days couldn't answer this question effectively. She was so cute in her answer.

  • incredible personality

  • they don't get "voice training"; they do other things. They broadcaste their intentions; they threat at every enuendo; they repeate & repeat how "you can't say that"; ~~~ well honey, if I can't; who can. We know ya' want another purse; another pair of shoes; another INCREASE in your allowance. We know what you are. Every dae, you scream it into our CIRCLE OF LIGHT. We know you want do it for free & your not a slut. Yes. We know. EVERYBODY KNOWS.

  • I notice that Mary Ann Mobley still had a slight "southern drawl" when interviewed after winning the Miss Mississippi crown in 1959. Presumably, she must have taken voice-training lessons before embarking on her acting career, because you cannot detect her accent later on.

  • I've always loved the way she talked back then. She doesn't do it anymore.

  • she was so charming :)

  • Mary Ann Mobley, Miss Mississippi and soon to be crowned MISS AMERICA 1958. I love those old videos. When pageants were apart of Americana.

  • Wow... WHat a pretty girl!

  • amazing find

  • Great answer. This was the winner and it is actress mary Ann Mobley
