  • Its a great song, but that overlay video kind of ruins the vid. By the way @08Cheeseits - This song is from BEFORE both Bob Rock and Rick Rubin ever worked with Metallica. Yeah. The guy who produced this album(Master of Puppets, best fucking Metallica album everrrrrrrr), pwns both of them to the 10th power.

  • Rick Rubin ownz fuckin' Bob rock

  • in madness you dwell...noooooo...no..no. no! noho!..ahhh..ahhh..hooooooo..woooo lmao!

  • lmao in madness you dwell...ahh..aahhhh.noooo.noooooo.nohoooo. ooohoooo.wooooooooo lmao!

  • im gonna try to get tickets for the 20th anniversary for the black album next year! maybe jason will be a part of it.

  • in this concert they played all the songs from Master of puppets because they were celebrating 20 years of Master of puppets.

  • Messenger.. of fear insight... DARK.. DECEPTION KILLS THEEE LIGGHTTT!

  • @lolzors128 You mean: THEE LIIIEEEEEEEEEAA

  • its the best video ever, james voice is perfect , my favorite song is metallica "one" s&m.. amnd i have a picture of james when he was like 13, i had cut it from the yearbook the school where he went to...

  • James sounds weird using his falzero.

    Good song though.

  • f'n awesome

  • No is this supposed to be a live album!?

  • Well, is it released as an album?

  • lol dude master of puppets album

  • 4:31 lmao

  • is it released as an album?

  • its sad that they dont play this song alive more often. Just in the limit with Stoner sounds

  • the 2006 tour was immense. Playing the entire album of Master of Puppets in order. EPIC!!

im seeing them on saturday in Marlay Park. I hope to god they play this!!!

  • this song is based off of a short story called "the shadow over insmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft, a 1920s horror writer. read the book. its good (but scary as hell). its written in the early 20th century, so the wording might be too advanced for some young or non-readers.

  • Pretty sure its gonna be based off of "The Call of Cthulu" since the song is about Cthulu and the line with "Not dead which eternal lie" is taken directly from the story

  • man, his voice really does sound weird.. ah what the hell its the thing that should not be \m/\m/ it sounds no matter what when they play it!!

  • whats the deal with the eye?

  • DAGONNNN

  • ofcourse this songs kicks ass it was co-wrote by cliff and his love for horror!!!

  • The eye is suppose to be "The thing that should not be" if you have read the lyrics of the song.

  • lol i know that but i was just pointing out that it looks like a vagina with an eye though.

you should tell that to people saying what is that thing

  • one of my favs of alltime metallica songs

  • that eye was like WO! wtf! i loved it

  • lmao!

  • fuck you candlemaniac

  • maybe your ears are broke!

  • lol

  • one of the most evil performances of this song.

  • That was bad year for James voice

  • what? i thought it was a good year for the mighty het!

  • it was, only on this song. listen to their concerts from march 2006. he sounded so weak I couldnt listen the whole songs. and it wasnt much better during the summer of the same year.

  • yes, but he sounds good on this one

i think that this song is one of his favorites

  • ik was bij dat concert was erg gaaf en goed natuurlijk

  • 4:36 LOL WTF :D:D

  • LOL DUDE FOR REAL!!!!!!! What the hell was that supposed to be???

  • very well done james hetfield! much better than you use to sing since after the black album no offense to him cus he's my idol! anyways awesome performance i just wish they'd go back to standard tuning!!

  • look up death magnetic

  • you are the dumbest person i've ever seen on here. That IS james, and his voice is kickass compared to how he sounded for the last 15 years

  • i thought it was about the Kraken from greek mythology.

  • ya it's based on the Cthulhu short stories, and stems from the story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft ...Just for some people who may not have known.

  • James voice kick ass!

  • not would as it use to be

  • the eye thing is stupid id acctually like to see them live

  • Its Cthulhu, dude.

  • metallica spells it

    ktulu

  • Yeah, only because there's a belief that every time His name is used, it draws The Great Cthulhu nearer to revival.

  • wait so what ktulu is an underwater demon basically

  • To be technical, Ktulu is just a mispelling of Cthulhu. But, yes, Cthulhu is a (possibly ficticious) underwater demon, so to speak. I'd suggest Googling it. And H.P. Lovecraft.

  • The thing which should not be is Cthulu, and Apocolyptic elder God lying in a dream state within his sunken kingdom of R'lyeh.

  • I seriously dont know why everyone bitches about his voice. Its fine. If it was Bruce Dickinson Or Rob Halford then yeah concern. but for reals.

  • Go Go Godzilla

  • dude hes vocals are great here.

  • whose eye is that?

  • I think it is The Thing That Should Not Be ;)

  • No one its just a monster for this song ..

  • Cthulhu's probably.

  • WTF with the eye? Don't want to see this shit again

  • its because this whole concert from this guy is filming the big screens....not a oficial video thing. And at the concert there would be ones showing the band in the midle but this is just filmed at the side one.

  • rick rubin is said to be working on James singing, you can tell it sounds really good to me.

  • sounds like poo

  • his voice sounds pretty damn good to me... :)

  • cthulhu!!!

  • who eye is it??

  • sorry there was something wrong with my fucking keyboard , so who's eye is it!

  • I wanted to see metallica not some fucking eye.

  • i know me too!

  • this is the scariest metallica song

  • Metallica it's what keeping this world up and running!

  • Am I right in saying that the lyrics on this track are'nt quite the same as on the studio cut? I'm sure the MOP lyrics were a bit different to this. Correct me if I'm wrong lol.

  • youre wrong

    :p

  • he's not completely wrong...the first live chorus, he is singing the 2nd chorus of the original recording...But it doesn't really matter to me, I have been there and they proved they're the BEST!:D

  • idk if he was wrong or not. It was a joke. Thats why i did the :P thingy

and yes, ive been there too, it was awesome

  • que chimba todo.. la banda.. la canción oooocchhh que elegancia

  • ok, since hes been damaging his vocal chords for a while. what happens is when u talk or sing they smash together and after a long time the blood vessels start to bleed and theres a laser surgery that they zap those damaged parts and it revives them somewhat, thats how the singer of aerogay can still do those high notes fairly well for so long. i think james should get this surgery and his shit would be back to at least black album status

  • that first like 2 seconds of vocals are sickeningy bad but the rest are pretty good for recent hetfield stuff he is my fuckin hero

  • greatest band forever!

  • This song is amazing! I don't know why the band themselves aren't that keen on it though.

  • I think this is the recording of the videoscreen in the stadium, am i right?

Al the songs of this concert here on youtube are a good quality.

    Thanks for that!!!

  • good performance except the last hetfield words...he gets a blue note that doesn't fit with the song

  • Hartstikke bedankt yverish !!!!

  • that monster eye is stearing at you!! I like metallica lyrics. any comment send me a m.

  • Great song, but notice that the eye is always there, they barley show the band! lol, but still good song

  • probably the worst vocal performance of james ever.but it still james..

  • I think that James vocal is perfect to this song!

  • Those books are terrible, filled with errors. Look at any page in Master of Puppets for example. Nearly every riff has errors. Anyone with half an ear can see that.

  • not TotalGuitar magazine. They did a whole tablature of 'Master of Puppets', including video demo, and just blatantly copied the incorrect tabs! it's fucking shocking! so damn wrong! and the guitar tone was way off, too damn muddy

  • metallica ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuless

  • god where is james's voice at. he hasnt had it since 1992

  • He lost it recording the black album and had to get singing training just so he could talk

  • His voice is fine. I saw them three times on that tour and they sounded great. It just took another album before Bob Rock could corrupt this band totally. Metallica always say they do what they want to do, Bob Rock owns Jamie Hetfield.

  • i think he sang good actually, just a bit maybe too fine this time..it was good actually compared to all other songs

  • Nice eye

  • On the album, it's DGCFAD... Now, it in C#

  • james i love u w or without voice..u r the man..

  • ugly eye at the beginning :D

  • Its not dropped D or standard.

Try standard, down half a step

  • dude that is not in dropped D standard my good man that thick heavy sound is vintage metallica

  • the voice in the beginning it ownes man i love it

his voice isn´t bad the fans just broke off i still like metallica

  • drop D bitches

  • soooo fuckin gooodd!! metallica rulzzzz

  • Been there too :D

  • This was a bad performance, James sounds like his nose is closed haha:P But i Love Metallica!

  • GREAT song! the best of MOP :-)

  • Marines love metallica-oorah!!

  • I thought I heard a little girl singing at the vocal beginning >.<

  • i was there too aw best performence ive ever seen

  • That Eye was so coowl, I been there ^^
