No one's probably gonna read this, but I’ll say it anyway cuz I feel at least 1 person will. I'm a young designer and graffiti artist, I know there's a million out there but I feel like my art has a unique individual style.
If you just take a min and give me a chance I'll make you a believer. I would love nothing more than to have a loyal following on youtube. If anyone who reads this could press the "THUMBS UP" others will see it. Just a simple button push will make a huge difference.
This is hands down the best concert video of the last 30 years. Pure magic. I remember listening to the casette tape over and over and over when I was in high school. Great memories of a great band.
@22v68 Bono is an excellent singer you ignorant shit. That's just your excuse for not giving money to charity. He could easily sit on his backside and do nothing like the rest of them but he has a conscience - he is a brilliant Irish genius. Dance music is total shite so you really don't have a clue. His album sales, longevity of career and continued success speak for themselves.
@EloiseDecember Hey there, let me apologise for my stupid comment. Don't get me wrong, I'm only apologising for not giving Bono / U2 the respect they deserve, they are of cause one of the biggest bands in the history of music with millions of albums sales etc etc. Personally their music does nothing for me but thats just me. As for Bono asking us for money for charity while sitting on his own hundred million dollar fortune well I stand by my comment, he can go fuck himself, use his own money.
@22v68 Well I'm sure Bono gives and has given a lot of his own money to them. Happy to hear you appreciate U2s talent though even if it's not to your own taste. I believe first line of my comment was too rude! Sorry about that. Just usually a lot of ignorami on internet :)
U2 own Red Rocks... you're right. ;-) one of the greatest ever gigs, I used to have this on video, saw U2 in 82 and 83 and they were amazing, seen them quite a few times but nothing beats this, what a gig it must have been in this setting.!!
Ahhhh, U2 where did ya go after you left red rocks! your sound- Haunting, Majestic, Classic, never to be done that way again, even though they will never go back, U2 owns RED ROCKS, their spirit walks about there every night... they just allow other artist to use it time and again! How long? the Day was Sunday, Bloody Sunday-June 5th 1983 a day that will live on in infamy!
@petitprince1 he still has some of the same moments now and as a singer he is actually better. The issue for him now is his voice wears out a lot quicker and get's tired easier. Just part of aging. Once in a while, he'll be at his ethereal best and hit those notes NOBODY else can
The Edge is missing his beanie cap and Bono isn't wearing his world war 2 pilots goggles with tinted lenses , but this youthful U2 sound a lot better to me . Although today their professionalism can't be faulted.
Thanks for posting. Needed to hear NYD, took me back about 24 years ago when I first heard it. The older U2 was raw, the piano in this, haunting. Red Rocks is my favourite, as is NYD. Therapeutic, thanks
@Uwavester : Stop. You're killing me! I've been an AC/Dc fan since the late 70's but saying they're better than U2 is like comparing the dodo bird to an eagle.
I just love this song, this 2 songs put together.. The piano how sweet.. I love U2 music.. Very talented, skilled.. Bono looks very young and handsome. :)
I could just watch what the edge is doing through the whole song! His playing guitar and piano literally at the same time plus singing the backing vocals! SKILLSS!
I used to like this song, this album, this band, soo much.. there was a time when I felt U2 was the best of the best... and then they disappeared to become a plain pop, repetitive, non-creative band.. Considering how very much I liked them, this is probably the band that has later let me down the most.. I do give them credit for staying out there and doing something current although far from my taste. (Thx God I stil have Depeche Mode who on the contrary became from fine to absolutely great!)
Love U2!!!!!! I love watching Edge play, he plays piano, then suddenly picks up his guitar and starts rocking out!!! how AWESOME!!! love playing this song on my piano, tho i'm not as good as edgie (yes, edgie!!)
this is deadly had it when it came out its great when drink is on board but u2 are more than this. but they need to give it up its over long live u2 best band ever. i'm right you know
As big as U2 is I can't understand why this and the other videos from Red Rock have such low views.
Less than 100,000 in over two years ?
There are not too many bands that can play their songs better live than in the studio as this concert proved and the energy and non-overproduction is just amazing.
@SixDayWar67 yeah it's sad when people like lady gaga have millions of views and this isnt even close to that.red rocks has great acoustics for performing live.i have footage of the beatles performing here and it sounds amazing.
How lucky you are to have seen them at Gateshead! That was the first time I saw them,on the Tube,Gateshead 1982,I was 14.The first time I actually saw them live was,Unforgettable Fire tour,1984.I cant believe some of the comments.U2 can't continue to be 19 year olds forever.Yes they have changed and not for the better, though still great, but which one of us still acts like they did in the early 80's?
hey...how about everyone stop arguing?...especially about rectums?...ok that's funny sometimes...but it's a hell of a medley?...and it's the Edge...doing piano and guitar?
which makes me wonder...is it still available on vhs? And if it's not, would that put it in the 'rare' category? I joined the U2 fan club back in 1983, so I got a lot of rare stuff from them...also have a lot of rare/hard-to-find vinyl singles and 12-inches from the early 80s that I keep holding on to...never know what can come of it I suppose.
not ready to sell yet...I've been holding on to them for over 26yrs and...sorry to be morbid here...but I figure when one of them kicks over, my collection (including all the original fan club stuff from '83...autographed pics and whatnot) will be worth a lot more. That said, I'm nowhere near the fan I use to be way back yonder...frankly, I think they should have broken up after Pop.
I'm with you on that, DonnieJon...although evidently I was pretty much the only person on the planet that has never been all that crazy about Joshua Tree...In God's Country is the only song I ever truly loved on that one.
I tottaly agree with spegg89, and I'm 17 but yet I prefer not just the 80's but the 70's and 60's too, bands like, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, the true rock in general we'll never see it again, I think U2 is one of the last real rock bands that still play =(
@ntn777 look around for new music there are lots of good rock bands out there i loved u2 in the 80,90s they have lost their creative spark the live shows are still awesome a little bit to staged
they brought me lots of happiness listening to their music
my favorite for personal reasons is with or without you
@ntn777 i think you need to also take a look at simple minds who still play today and are just as good as u2 and been going for over 30 years now !! stay visible, moscow underground light travels and there last 2 abums have been brilliant black and white 050505 and graffiti soul check them out and come back to me !!! in fact if you ask bono who he wanted to sound like its these guys ! these 2 bands grew up together and come up through the pub circuits! 2 legends
I disagree! Music in the early days was way better in the quality of creativity and spirit! And of course the voice of Bono was also in the 80´ies at the height of his power
And perhaps if Bone-head removed his sanctimonious, hypocritical head from his own backside for long enough he be be able to hear the drivel they produce these days and recall how good they used to sound like the concert in question.
I'm with you. They are still good, but there's just something about early U2 that was just plain magical. This concert at Red Rocks beautifully captures that magic.
sorry wolfen but having seen bands like ELP, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull and countless others including U2 before they became BIG and seeing them in mostly small concert halls with a max of 2500 was when they were at their best.......fresh,raw and energetic !
As we used to say...When you hit the Garden your were basically done "
For those not familiar the "Garden" was Madison Square Garden in NYC where bands that used to play at "The Academy of Music " on 14th st, and 3rd ave
Hilarious how Edge manages to play guitar and keyboard at same time... very Spinal Tap - I love 'em! Just bought the remastered CD and DVD of this album!
Just when I thought U2 couldn't get any worse, They come up with a brand new pile of crap, and I'm not talking their new album but Vertigo... This is the real and best U2 ever.
Red Rocks.....whatta freakin' awesome venue!!!

Am I really, really wrong, or U2 was better in the 80's?

I'm with you. They are still good, but there's just something about early U2 that was just plain magical. This concert at Red Rocks beautifully captures that magic.
lennomenno 2 years ago 3
Yeah, this video takes that essence. U2 still being creative but... I think that everything in the 80's was better...

No, not wrong. 80's U2 was like "listening for a moment to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star."

sorry wolfen but having seen bands like ELP, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull and countless others including U2 before they became BIG and seeing them in mostly small concert halls with a max of 2500 was when they were at their best.......fresh,raw and energetic !
As we used to say...When you hit the Garden your were basically done "
For those not familiar the "Garden" was Madison Square Garden in NYC where bands that used to play at "The Academy of Music " on 14th st, and 3rd ave

Probablemente la mejor puesta en una escena de la historia del Rock.. Siempre brillara la unforgettable fire alrededor.

Hilarious how Edge manages to play guitar and keyboard at same time... very Spinal Tap - I love 'em! Just bought the remastered CD and DVD of this album!

Saw them on TV 81 (Rockpalast Loreley) when I was 14.
The first time I ever heard of U2.
October gives me goosebumps, too.
When I feel depressed, I listen to my old U2 records. That helps.

Everyone loves the part at 2:06. :) Did you hear the scream from the audience? Who else can do that with four notes on the bass? Go, Adam!

Just when I thought U2 couldn't get any worse, They come up with a brand new pile of crap, and I'm not talking their new album but Vertigo... This is the real and best U2 ever.

Wonderfully atmospheric - though not as rare as you believe, I've had this on VHS for over 20 years, Octocer/NYD are totally indivisible to me now!
