I've enjoyed Larry's music for decades. But I am sad by the "churchianity" treatment around the fact that, after helping launch Randy Stonehill's career, Randy's wife divorced him after falling in love and then "marrying" Larry. Where was the light of truthful treatment, of "Jesus People" honesty? And what are the future ripple effects in terms of legacy and witness to others? Nevertheless, what a gifted artist.
I heard Larry Norman in Bradford a year or two after this. I've never heard such a great singer since. I wasn't at Greenbelt in '79 but have this song on tape and it's a great live performance.
I saw him this very year and he was so fantastic I could hardly stand it! I've seen a ton of live concerts and that was one to remember.
I saw him probably eight or ten times, usually solo. But he was so much better with a full band. I think the collective energy really loosened him up.
This is amazing. I was there at this appearance at Greenbelt in 1979 and it was just about the most perfect gig-going moment in my life! Larry was there doing the sound for Randy. At the end of his own set, after a rollicking Good News, Randy announced "My brother just flew in from America" and Larry flew across the stage in that whirlwind way that he used to and launched into this perfect rock'n'roll performance. I have this version on green vinyl on a Greenbelt Live LP. Great to see it again!
Ha, that was the Larry Norman we saw on his "World Tour". Full band, hard rock, lots of energy. Wow, what a contrast to Sunday morning. Oh well, let the tape keep rolling....
This is from the main stage during Greenbelt, August 79? The set with Randy Stonehill (I think that was his name). Great set, great event. I was there!
RIP larry, thanks for the music. I remember seeing him at the Cavern a few years ago. Was one of my favorite gigs. My friend also had a bootleg tape of a gig he did at the Wirral Christian Centre in NW of England.
Its a shame that the Christian CCM world never accepted his music. Maybe they might have learned a thing or two.
SICK VID!!!! It's too bad he didn't become huge.He had such a message. Well, at least we know that he'll be rewarded in heaven. His death is a huge loss to us
Probably one of the most fun times with Larry.Amazing Grace...how sweet the sound. I'll be catching up with you later dear Bro. Thanks for being who you were meant to be while on this earthly plane. You are missed.
