@gloggolyt I think Depeche could pull it off.Rarely is anything ever as good as the original;this is a classic and if another group was to cover this song I would prefer either Alien Skin or Depeche Mode.
@DaveyBoyEssexUK: no, not quite. Billy would have ruined this song... not that I don't like Billy Idol, but he's just not Ultravox. Warren Cann's drums are brilliant in this song...
Wow, just discovered Ultravox other than the single vienna. So many great tracks. this has a melancholic urgency about it, stunning riffing, bass and drums.
Can anyone recommend an album of theirs (not a compilation) for me to buy. I am buying Lament already because all the tracks are amazing, but what from their other work? I like the melancholic, soaring ballady style of theirs-sad songs. Thanks
@18jemini You need to get Vienna,Lament, Rage in eden and Quartet, in that order i would say, but they are all great U-vox has a couple of great songs the rest are forgettable or crap (sorry guys)
@NAH1967 Thankyou. I have just started to delve in to their album tracks. I will follow your advice. I have sampled a few on youtube. WOW, surely one of the top 5 bands of the 80s, so clever and influential. I am awe struck
It isn't an insult at all I love Ultravox' music and this particular song takes me back to highschool and memories of my beautiful ladyfriend and cold beach nights all punked out back when spiked bleached hair was in and my girl loved it.
This song was never released as a single, if I remember rightly it was the last track on the B side (side 2). Still absolutely brilliant though & to think Midge lives about five miles from me : )
I forgot how good this was, I tend to listen to early U Vox but this album was very good and reminds me of the wild north of scotland in 1984, where I grew up
My goodness have not heard this in years, absolutely brilliant. Love the punk bass line. One of the all time great bands right from the beginning with Mr Foxx .
Listened to this song ALL day long out on errands...when he starts the stanza.."pain, lust..." OMG..what this man can accomplish with his voice!! My sweet, sexy Sir Midgexxxxx
@SchallundWahn I agree with you; melodic, effect, classy, without excess; it seems built for the wonderful voice of Midge. i Saw them in Genoa (sept. 1984) when new wave was at the top...
I have no words..........forever in my heart! Thanks you guys for the gift of your music. xxxx

Was there ever an official Ultravox video for this haunting song? I envision a man lost to the seductive nature of power. How Ultravox......

But I was able to see Midge live in 2008...he was great!

one of my all time favourite songs, Midge sang with a passion.
simmo3103 3 years ago 4
Ages since I heard this - THANKS!!!
Listen to 2:33 - 2:36...
It doesn't matter what the official lyrics are, I think Midge had something else on his mind when he sang that.
