  • absolute legend for putting this up!! arhhh just made me cry! amazing memories with old friends singing our little hearts out in assemblys!! haha!! love it!! thank-you!:*

  • This song gives me gip. It comes from the same category as "all things bright and beautiful". Unless I am very much mistaken the person who the song is requesting thanks for is God. God controls everything and causes both good and bad things to happen (likewise he/she makes bright, beautiful, dull and ugly things). If we teach children to thank God for the good things, maybe they will blame him/her for the bad things. btw jet planes only rarely refuel in the air.

  • i've noticed now for me it's quite hard to sing this song as it's quite high but i remember at primary it was so easy.. oh, good memories(:

  • as a teacher who plays piano, this song is one of the things I look forward to when we go back to school in September! i loved singing it at school and love to hear the children sing it now... i've heard some schools don't sing the verse with the 'bacon' term in it for religious reasons and others who have to explain to the kids what a milkman used to do and i always think Estelle wouldn't have minded if schools changed the odd line here and there to suit the times... never change the apple pie

  • Oh my god! This was my favorite song to sing at primary school ( : that and "paintbox", which went "cauliflowers fluffy and cabbages green...". A classic school tune from my 90's childhood.

  • Happy memories! We sang this nearly every week at "Hymn Practice" at primary school. 1988-1994. The good old days!

  • LOVE!!!!!!! one of my favourite songs from back when I was at primary school many years ago

  • I had a bad time at school so have blocked those memories out my head but this was a popular song sung at Allens Rough Methodist Church in Willenhall near Wolverhampton where I held my first organist post and always enjoyed jazzing the organ up to this! Sadly that church closed in 2005.

  • We sang this in year 11 and we were so loud and energetic that the head of year tried to stop us singing the last verse. I can still here the music teacher on the piano banging out the keys and screaming "No! This is our favourite verse!"

  • Oh how I hated school, I'm 27 now, but this song does stir abit of nostalgia, reminding me of the bell going for home time on a Friday for the weekend, and me racing out.

  • :OOOOOOOO I USED TO LOVE THIS SONGG!!!! DJFHJDHASJ AAAHH :DDD

  • I hated my school, but this song made us so happy, everyone's favourite. We used to play it on bells and recorders too

  • i remember this XD but i never used to sing the word correctly because i couldn't see the screen very well. I think the only hymm i used to sing properly was paint box but added "yeah" and jazz hands on the end of the chorus.

  • @abbey00001 paint box used to be my fav! :))

  • Love this - Have just been to the funeral of Estelle White, who composed this. She died on Feb 9th age 85 - I taught with her in the 70s -she wrote some brilliant hymns- 'Walk with me O my Lord' is one of my favourites

  • @TheYorkslass1 Wow, I'm glad this touched you, and so sorry to hear that she died. I think the comments on this video are a testament to how many children's lives she touched through her music. I too love 'Walk with me O my Lord'.

  • @TheYorkslass1 I thank Estelle for this. My favourite hymn as a child. God Bless.

I dident but all of the years 1 2 3 and 4 did xd it made me laugh so hard.I love the line:'The smell of bacon as i fasten up my laces and the song that the milkman sings'

  • @MrsStaffiesRock always thought this song had some really odd lyrics like the 'picked up engine' and jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled???? Always thought planes refuelled on the ground at the airports! LOL

  • AND A WIN FOR MY HOME TEAM!

  • was always my favourite ..

  • this was my favourite song we sang at school! Fondest memories from primary school involve the juniors singing the verses, and the infants doing the choruses! good times.

  • we r gonna sing dis this year for our Harvest assembly haha but we only sang up to the 2nd parograph I didnt no da other last 2

  • I'm in your video!!!! 1:50 & this song took me right back to my youth!!!

  • It's great that the song is about such small, humble and simple pleasures (both natural and man-made), and that all the senses are involved (the touch of the shoes, the smell of the bacon, the taste of the apple pie, the sound of the milkman's songs, plus the sight of the moon, silk, jet planes etc etc).

  • broken cross primary macclesfield 1981-1986

  • I remember our teacher had a problem getting us to sing rather than shout 'thank you' but we loved it! Thanks for the memory

  • This was always my favourite hymn as well. I was rather shocked a number of years ago to read that it actually caused some controversy: Apparently the choir at one church threw down their hymn books in disgust and refused to sing it because of the "jet planes" line.

Google the Independent article, "Composer who drove choir to rebel defends her plane song".

  • i have to do that now by Aimee

  • I remember sitting in assembly legs crossed arms folded and singing my heart out I always ran out of breath at the end of every verse lol

    Ahh the memories.

My daughter's 5 months old I hope they still sing this song when she's at primary school.

  • Melbourne CP Primary School 1998-2005 :)

  • My favourite hymn of all. I believe it was number 16. I would love to learn it

  • hamsted junuior school brimingham England 1999 - 2000 lol =]
