This is perhaps the best use of a montage of past - present - future events that I've ever seen in the motion picture industry. It was very prescise, inventive, and creative, and the music fit just perfectly as the father's destiny was changing, and Jim Cavielzel's memory are altered due to Deniis Quaid's "going the other way" in the past creating beautiful new memories of his dad from the right decision his son told him to make on the radio.
Yes, an extraordinary scene! The entire movie is beautifully rendered but this passage is particularly breathtaking. The tumbling and falling fireman's hat, the spiraling descent of fireman down the chute, the rotating freefall of John's glass, the slow-motion circling as father teaches son how to ride a bike (the scene after this clip) and the inward "head-spinning" change seen in John's eyes all occur simultaneously with interlaced choreography, all orchestrated with beautiful music.
The most beautiful scene I've ever seen in my life.....so shocked....
I saw it more than ten years ago, but still just think it was so great...
