@mdokane just so you know, they coined that as a joke because of the sounds erik uses. it's not an official genre of there's or anything. they really aren't even "core" so i also don't really understand why people call them that.

@chadinterrupted oh I don't know about that, they sure have all the trappings of a hardcore band. Screams, double bass, breakdowns... I don't think the term is a pejorative. I love hardcore, and with Nintendo sounds, the natural sub genre is just Nintendocore. I know they made it up, but its descriptive and quick. A lot of songs they are just synth rock (Between the Trees and Sex Raptor come to mind) but ultimately it comes back to Nintendo sounds and good hardcore music.

@mdokane i guess if you want to think that, that's okay. but they said it. not me. they said "nintendocore" was coined as a joke and was not to be taken seriously. people like you take it seriously and it pisses them off. i know this because if you've watched any interview where they talk about their stance on this subject, that's what they say. it's not the sound of the instruments, it's the notes. he could be using a harpsichord the whole time and it would still be beautiful.

I love this band, and I have listened to a few interview, including a 45 minute podcast where they witness a burglary in San Francisco. Again, I said its not a pejorative to call them Nintendocore, and whether or not they care what I think is irrelevent. The term exists not to "define who they are", but to answer the question "in 1 second or less, how would you describe this band?" and MY answer to that is "Nintendocore".
