What's the big deal about their nationality? I'm English which makes me Anglo-Saxon and that makes me half German and half Danish. So I am one with my Royal family. Hurrah! God Save the German/Danish Queen of the German/Danish English. Long may she reign :0P !!
@popazz1 He was born at Mon Repos, Corfu, Greece. His father was Prince Andrew one of the King of Greece's younger sons. Philip's grandfather was the King of Greece when he was born
@popazz1 Philip's great grandfather Christian IX, was King of Denmark, and made one of his sons George I, king of Greece when he restored the monarchy there. George I was prince Philip's Grandfather. That is why Prince Philip was born prince of Greece and Denmark, just like all the members of the Greek family decedent from George I. From his mother's side prince Philip is Queen Victoria's second oldest great-great grandson. He is related to all the current monarchs of Europe.
@Twilight19922008 According to British tradition, law and costume, only the reigning monarch is crowned. Besides in the UK there is no such a thing as King consort, even though it is addmitted that a woman may bear the title of Queen consort. Futhermore, Phillip's relatively modest origin, as comming from a decayed Greek noble family, did not allow him to be given higher titles than Prince and Duke of Edimbrough. He is known to be very happy with his position in the royal family though.
@wendyverdades It's a bit hard for me to understand what Diana's death has to do with our Queen's coronation, considering the late Princess was not even born at that time. Notheless, RIP poor Diana, or as I preffer to put it, good riddance. Long live the Queen!
THANK YOU, for posting, I love watching doc. vids about the royals. I love them thru good & bad. This explains more about the Queen & Prince Phillip. I know she is Queen but she is also suppose to be head of the Church of England & HIS WIFE! Therefore he should have a Biblical discussion about man & woman being SIDE-BY-SIDE, NOT 2 STEPS BEHIND OR IMMASCULATING HIM EVERYTIME HE SPEAKS!!!
@BillysBelle It's interesting your way to put it. For ages women have stood miles behind their husbands and were considered nothing more than property and you talk about biblical discussion about man and woman being side by side? And yes, in our Queen's marriage, it is She who wears the trousers, and very proudly so. May your biblical god bless you and your spouse.
@anaclet Do you blindly work for the House of Windsor? because you are not listening or responding properly to what people are writng. I was actually defending YOUR Queen in a way, not bashing her. When a King gets married though, HIS WIFE IS NOT MADE TO WALK BEHIND HIM! I think England is a lovely country...DONT RUIN IT FOR ME! Do your homework, I did.
@BillysBelle Oh dear Billy, yes, I do work for the noble House of Windsor. You seem to be a bit confused about Noble matters as most commoners are. When a King of blood gets married, his wife usually becomes Queen consort, meaning, she's Queen merely by virtue of marriage. When our Queen Elizabeth decided to marry Phillip, the low rank of his Greek family only allowed him to be given the title Prince consort, hence placing him behind his wife. So he must walk a few steps behind her. He's happy.
@anaclet The Queen Mum was a commoner, wanna rethink your answer DIPSHITT!!! One of OUR best Monarchs we have ever seen but she was coronated robes and all, and she didnt walk behind him. They had an equal riegn and marriage while the King was alive. It doesnt matter where Prince Phillip came from, he's still her husband & a monarch, He is still loyal to the Crown and Country,he should be treat w/ RESPECT by ALL EVEN THE QUEEN! HE IS LOVED AS WELL. YOU WEREN'T LISTENING BEFORE & YOU'RE NOT NOW!
@BillysBelle Oh dear Billy, you seeem to be a bit upset. That language does not fit you, even for a commoner. Well, I regret to say but your comment deserves a few corrections. It is natural you are not familiar with such matters. Well, Prince Phillip, with all the love and respect he is given, he is NOT a monarch. Only the Reigning Queen Elizabeth, by virtue of birth, is a monarch. He's merely her husband. And if you are referring to the Queen Mother, she wasn't a monarch either.
@anaclet You are to ill-bred to have an intellegent conversation with, especially since you keep referring to me as Billy. My screen name is BillysBelle; which means my name is Belle. Like I said, look back in history, you will find the pictures of the Queen Mother in all her Coronation glory.
@BillysBelle Oh pardon me, Belle. And what a beautiful name you have btw. No sweet darling, you must understand a few things. The Queen Mother's coronation, with all its regalia, by no means represents she was a monarch. Her husband was the King, and only him. Were it not so, when he passed away - may his soul rest in the peace of the Allmighy - his wife should become Reigning Queen. She did not BECAUSE she was merely Queen consort, hence with no sucession rights. Prince Phillip's the same case.
@anaclet You're still not reading (or listening to yourself as you read) carefully. Yes, she got coronated, only as Queen Consort, but Prince Phillip did not, not even as King Consort. The reason being the Queen Mother, God rest her beautiful soul, did not like him. Read a book, they are for more than just looking good on a shelf, and all should have equal rights.
@BillysBelle Oh sweet dear Belle, you make me laugh. You are so naïve! You remind me of my little daughters who love reading fairy tales. No sweet darling, the Queen Mother, may the Allmighty have mercy on her soul, did not have such power or influence. Let me remind you that Albert, the beloved husband of the great Queen Victoria, was never a king either. Listen, darling, Royalty and equal rights are concepts that do not match very well. And yes, I do read my books. Maybe you should read more.
That title does not, nor ever has existed. A wife shares her husbands title and status under British law, but a husband does not, typically, share that of his wife. No Prince consort has ever been crowned, it certainly had nothing to do with the Queen Mother (although I won't argue that she didn't like him.)
@fleurgi Oh dear fleur, your opinion will most certainly be taken into consideration when another crowning ceremony shall take place, in a very, very distant future, God permitting. Peace and long life.
@fromheretoglory Yeah, very truly so. Only difference being that the 'nobs' were able to watch it on tv later, while the commoners were never able to be there.
