George Clinton has been performing for over 50 years and Parliament was formed way before Kiss. Also both bands were on the same record label Casablanca during the 70's as well. They also had the same stage designers for their concerts during that time too. In a way funk is a form of rock music but with r&b and soul infused within it to give a different feel. By the I like both parliament and kiss as well.
Back in the day, the Mothership would land on the stage, and Dr. Funkenstein would get out his Gangsta Brim, and walking cane. And Parliament would bust out with this song.
Parliament would put on a great show back in the 70s. They were the first group to put showmanship into their shows.
If someone is trying to argue that George Clinton was inspired by KISS in this 76 release, George was freaking out in 70' with "Momma What's a Funkadelic". Their dress continued to get wilder as the "Not of this World" themes for successive albums developed. Even Patti LaBelle and the Blue Bells transformed to "Star Children" in 71 as LaBelle. It was a wild, transitive time and the music was great. KISS' did their thing, but George didn't need to, nor did he, piggy back off of them.
I really hate the times when i see people ganging up on someones comment, i become so curious and then search the entire thread only to find out that the comment has been removed. Damn it!!! i just wanna know what he says!!! LOL :D
I started in space doing the Cosmic Slop, until the Mothership landed and had me Tearing the Roof Off the Sucka! Starchild shot me with the Bop Gun while I shined my Flashlight on the devoid of funk who's nose had grown. Bootsy came and Streched me out, while I figured out my Telephone Bill. Then P-Funk took the damn party underwater and showed me I could dance without getting wet! Funkenstein warned of the clones and got the Nation Under A Groove!

When it comes to Hip Hop using this for a sample. I think it may be a little more significant that Too Short used this for 'It's Your Life'. Ice T is that dude, but I think more people will hear this in Too Short's album. 'Short Dogg's in the House' (the album) is one of the all time bangers EVER!
Uh, microbiologically speakin' when I start churnin', burnin' and turnin'... gonna make your atoms move so fast, expanding your molecules, causing a friction fire burning you on your neutron; causing you to scream, "Hit me in the proton... bay-bah!"
Hit me with The One and then, if you like hit me again!
Parliament and Kiss were on the same record label Casablanca Records in the early 70s so they would dress wild while performing on stage and this outfit is similiar to the Kiss band members. Both groups provided that good funky sound even though Kiss is a rock band I still dig 'em.
Parliament started in 1968. Kiss came later. George Clinton has always been extreme and eccentric. Before that they were The Parliaments and did doo wop.
I would've LOOOOVED to shoot Music Videos for the US Funk Mob using todays technology!!! Can you imagine if they were shooting concept videos for their albums??

Kiss took advantage of their look by being media monsters

Parliament and Funkadelic dressed this way in the 1960's when most of their music was a form of rock mixed with a dab of soul. check out some of the music from the album maggot brain and others.
so many rappers have sampled nearly any and every thing by George Clinton, I could name ten rappers who have sampled this song alone, that's what makes listening to the original song so much fresher!
This group was pre-Kiss as they recorded as Funkadelic doing what they called Acid-Funk in the early 70's. Check out Maggot Brain on Westbound records

Well, Funkadelic came out in 76, but Parliament came out in 1970. The first album in Osmium, which oddly enough is a country album. They dressed like funky indians in space, so I'd say they had the idea from jump street, or at least georges high ass did.

this shit right here reminds me of Compton High days when my dude would pick me up early in the morning bangin' this and we'd be dippin' in the low rida' hittin' three wheel motion on Compton Blvd. and Wilmington.....'86 was the year.
Funkadelic (Westbound Records, 1970) the first record, sound, and look for Parliment. The self-titled debut album, Kiss, was released on February 18, 1974.
@sodr2 Sorry to have to correct you but Parliament Funkadelic was doing this since 1967. As a matter of fact, Parliament had the original Starchild, not Kiss.
@sodr2 They dressed like this before KISS. George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic was all together formed in 1968, five years before kiss. But interesting point
@sodr2 Parliament is actually 5 years older than KISS.. though I couldn't tell you when they started dressing like this. Who cares though because this shit is FUNKY.
@diamonddust22 , wrong....( Snip) (Taken from Wikipedia.)
The Parliaments did not meet with great success at this time, recording only a handful of singles for the relatively minor label Revilot Records. These included a hard-won hit in 1967 with "(I Wanna) Testify/I Can Feel The Ice Melting", but the band struggled to achieve recognition..
@diamonddust22 , both bands were original in different ways. Regarding who wore the first wild costumes? Take that up with the ancients like the stone Age artists.
Have to wonder, did they meet up with the ancient PFunk landing the Mothership Connection? XD
Funkadelic (Westbound Records, 1970) the first record, sound, and look for Parliment. The self-titled debut album, Kiss, was released on February 18, 1974.
@brownmachine6969 And you obviously have a great sense for patterns because they were label-mates and had the same leather taylor. I even read somewhere where they sometimes borrowed each other clothes
@brownmachine6969 Just so you know, Parliament Funkadelic was doing this since 1967. As a matter of fact, Parliament had the original Starchild, not Kiss.
This is where Kiss, The Tubes and Elton John learned to Mack. Fact. The Parliaments sang doo wop in the 50's and in the 60's they "turned on" and got extremely funky largely because of Funk Lord Sly and his Family Stone but Parliament created rock theater. Louis Jordan created rock and roll.
@brownmachine6969 also, way before kiss and a bit before parliament there was a brazilian band (1971) called "secos e molhados" with similar costumes. theyre also great, check'em out at: youtube.com/watch?v=uBdg4SnOzm8
Kiss had their first performance in 1973, Parliament had already cut their record by then (1970) and were already on tour with it so my guess is before Kiss
8biminiroad ........You are absolutely right, Jerome Brailey (BigFoot) did not play on the recorded version of this tune. I had a scientist do a sound DNA and the analytic analogy results came back placing another drummer on this recording. If you said it was Cordell Mosson (Boogie) , I can relate to that .....Thanks for the correction
Microbiologically speaking, When I start churnin', burnin' and turnin' I'll make your atoms move so fast Expandin' your molecules Causing a friction fire Burnin' you on your neutron Causing you to scream "Hit me in the proton, BABY!" (I don't know what I'm talking about) Ohhhh, over! (Hey man, you make me feel so bad)(Bootsy said) We love to funk you, Funkenstein Thanks for posting it. Peace from Chile, SouthAmerica.
Speaking of funk pictures, there was a crow on the back of the album. The voice that laughs and says "Dr. Funkenstein, king of the funk, yeah" reminds me of a talking crow/man in that junkyard.
That's one of the reasons why I believe Clinton has wings on the cover. Kind of like a monster clone created with the crow/man dna.

Although J. Romeo is all over this album, Cordell Boogie Mosson actually plays drums on this track.

Microbiologically speaking,
When I start churnin', burnin' and turnin'
I'll make your atoms move so fast
Expandin' your molecules
Causing a friction fire
Burnin' you on your neutron
Causing you to scream
"Hit me in the proton, BABY!"

That horn drag is felt deep in my funk bone. The horns really do it in this song . It gives it a kinda sanford and son junkyard funk feel....ya dig!

Love how you explained it, how you painted the picture, the landscape. It really does have a surreal urban funk junkyard feel.
