i first saw caldwell in 1966, he was great even back then...saw him again in 68 with noah's ark many times...always liked CB...hard to believe they didn't catch on, but mahavishnu and the fusion/prog movement took over...along with glitter rock...ugh...
Thanks for posting - nice job. My older brother had this album "back in the day", and we shared a fondness for it (I'd taped it on cassette). Some years ago, I found it used on CD, and couldn't believe it! My brother was in Iraq (at age 52, in the reserves), and we all hated him being over there. I sent him a "walkman cd player" and a pile of CDs including this one, and out of them all he said, he picked this one out and was playing it constantly - made me feel real good to actually help.
@DannyJMaloney - Hah .... This album and this music was so special to us that we played it constantly as well ... But I wasnt in the service: I was a guitar player in a rock band, and we thought this album was a brilliant stroke .... It was like; Perfect Guitar Rock .... Bobby Caldwell's drum work on this is still the holy grail for drummers ..... I saw that Taylor Hawkins, drummer for the Foo Fighters, pasted a 'Captain Beyond' sticker on his big bass drum head once: an apt statement from him
If you listen to the gutair riffs and key changes on the song, it sounds almost like it had that Jimi Hendrix sound. It's almost like Captain Beyond is picking up where Jimi Hendrix left off after his untimely death back in 1970.
you are correct. they are one of the most unappreciated bands ever. their first album is a rock classic. everyone in the band if a blueblood rock superstar.
you can recognize singer rod evans as the singer of deep purple. (hush, kentucky woman)
bobby caldwell...holy crap...one of the best drummers in rock history...check him out on 'johnny winter and live'
lee dorman on bass....iron butterfly...in gadda da vidda
Dude ? ... The music is amazing ... The video is amazing too, but very difficult to watch .... Some of the clips are so disturbing, it kinda distracts from the music ...
It is extremely artful, but sickening in a fascinating but still repellent way ...
It's great, but I cant watch it, or share it on FB .... It's too grim ...
This is a cool tune. Makes me want to romp on any asshole's taking advantage of our country now. Kick their ass hard, then kick them the fuck out of here !
god damn it this is so good and rod evans is sharp
