Well done, bdouvill! I find solo instrumentals of this song far more touching and meaningful (as though you're getting what the song is really supposed to sound like and convey) than the 80's keyboard/drum machine-drenched original released Cockburn.
Nice job -- I enjoyed this. In Cockburn's studio version of the song (the original) there are a couple of bass notes between the lines of the chorus you should try adding to your rendition. I hope it's easier to do on piano than it seems to be on guitar. Are you starting the song on B?
Thanks. It's been so long since I did this (and I did it by ear -- and largely by memory, so my choice of chords was probably not very precise), that I can't remember the details of how I played this. But I chose the key of Db, because it worked best for my voice range. And because this piece is easy to play on black keys. :)
Really good job man, but I think you should have transposed it up a bit, So that it was more in your vocal range. But you did a really good job, I liked it.
Look bdouvill, magnuslinde was making fun of you. He didn`t mean you have a "great haircut". You`re a nerd & you look like it. Magnuslinde is taking the piss out of you :-)
Stylist? Well, it's a Korean-owned business a few minutes from my apartment, where they charge only $10 CDN for the cut (that's about $9.40 US). Bruce Cockburn has a wide range, so it was tricky to find a the right key that allowed me to still hit the low notes and be heard, AND not sound like I was straining too much on the top notes.
Gotta kick at the darkness til it bleeds daylight. Lovely rendition ... and you even make those low notes. Thanks so much! Great haircut too; who's your stylist?
Beautiful job!
