  • i heard this song live, just epic!

  • Jeez even the guitar solo sounds like Knopfler's style.

  • Dire Straits totally ripped off Ian Anderson

  • The instrumental interlude is one of my all time favorites. The arrangement is genius.

  • @10CentHead it's a shame they don't play that live

  • It's songs like this that give perfect reason to why tull won the grammy.

  • @DoctorWho1983 Agreed. Tull beats metallica any day. Especially nowadays

  • some of the melodies are great, the opening is beautiful and the middle part is neat, with 4:54 being the most gorgeous moment of it all. Too bad that ians singing really suffers on the whole album and well...the lyrics are def. not the best of Ian...

  • @10squonk on later versions of the song (at least on Orcherstral JT) could it be that some of the less inspired lyrics are cut out/ even replaced?

  • nemkicsit megalázó ez a szám

  • @anapazapa

    de legalább szar

  • @anapazapa

kimondtad, amit én is éreztem hallgatása közben

ilyen az élet - nem gyönyörű fővárosunk izgatta, hanem egy kis pina

de azért akkor is nagy zenész az öreg!

  • This is a truly stunning song <3

  • you could cut the heat, peal it back with the wrong side of a knopfler!.

  • First time I ever heard this song was Jethro Tull themselves playing it live this year. One of the stand out moments of one of the best live performances ever. They really are that good.

  • Little bit of Dougie (Boyle) in there too........easliy enough to inspire Rocco lol!

    FABULOUS!

  • perdon,,, pero esto es jethro y marc cknopler

  • @mexiclage no, lo que pasa es que Ian Anderson se había sometido a una operación por aquella época...

  • this is a poor representation of jethro tull.

  • you mean mark knopfler sounds like ian anderson

  • ÓRIÁSI!!!!

  • I read from time to time on here that music listeners cannot afford to buy albums, lots of albums, because of personal budgets, but man, this is one to have, especially if you like Tull. This one isn't remastered, because I don't think it needs it anyway. Every track is fantastic, and I am not pushing it on behalf of anyone or any music group. it's great. Worth having.

  • @spoildn8410 I fully agree dude. My father has the vinyl albums for Crest of a Knave, Aqualung, Songs from the Woods, and.. theres to others which slip my mind at the moment. OH! Thick as a Brick, and... damn, just cant get that last one.

Point is, I love these albums, and I fully intend to buy the cd's (or preferably a second copy of the vinyl)... as I gave my father back all of his albums when he moved back home from another province.

    Tull is worth purchasing.

  • I like this song. I don't understand why some people hate it.

  • @tonibcnn That would 'be people that "just don't get it'". In my 61 yrs. (51 yrs. music nut) , non musician, asked regularly by Pro musicians if I play? My opinion of stuff like Budapest is that this is as good as any music gets!

  • I love both Metallica and Jethro Tull. I thought that Grammy stuff was pretty funny.

  • Always makes me think of one of the greatest ladies on earth: My dearest friend Andrea from Budapest / Nagykovacsi.

  • Stole that grammy right out of Metallicas hands..... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA,.........poor Lars has been in therapy ever since....... Up the Irons

  • @WrathchildNH - when did that happen, then?

  • @Fan666Maiden ...Tull won the grammy for this album ..... Lars complained publicly that Tull wasn't hard rock...... then Metallica won a year or so later....and Lars thanked Tull in his acceptance speech for not putting an album out that year,.......

  • @WrathchildNH - Aah, I see... typical...

    Thanx! Up the Irons!

  • MITICI JETHRO TULL!! .....in budapest...a night in budapest...

  • i was in there 2 weeks ago.it was just like a dream.and then i was a little high:)

  • hahaha , the first time i let this listen to my friend he thought that this is a song from Dire Straits , now i see here that every one is that opinion that it sounds like Mark Knopfler lol , but this is a JT song and it's a great song by them ,too

  • his sound like Knopfler because that time he had a throat surgery..

  • heard this yesterday at the jethro tull concert, this, my god, locomotive breath, and pastime with good company were the best songs

  • Különösen a gyönyörü fuvolaszolo adja vissza Budapest varazsat! A külföldi dalok közül amiket hallottam ez a legszebb dal Budapeströl.

  • i like knopfler, but jethro comes first...

  • The guitar sounds like Mark Knofler (Dire Straits). Romeo & Juliette?

  • Budapest, our beautiful capital city.

"Csapataink harcban állnak, a kormány a helyén van. Ezt közlöm az ország népével és a világ közvéleményével." - Nagy Imre, 1956

"Our troops are in battle, but the government is all right. I announce it with the public opinion of the country and the world." - Nagy Imre - 1956. Failed revolution.

  • @PSDDHRTF This song is actually based on a BEAUTIFUL female Hungarian Olympic runner that Ian and the band met while playing in Budapest during their 1986 European tour. Ian said she was so stunning and tall that he had to write a song about her. I wonder who that girl was?

  • sounds clearly like knopfler.

  • very goooodddd song, i was looking this song, because some stole my lp, i love the album Crest of a knave (al filo de la navaja) but the true name of the song is One nigth in Budapest,

Thanks !!! Aqualung1989. Mis respetos para ud. Greetings from Perú.

  • Muchas gracias por su comentario, saludos desde España :)

y sí, esta canción es genial

  • to kommati ta spaei.......! the song and band roooooocks..!

  • ok...

    Anyway the song rocks

  • te vagy egy nagy szar, magyar létedre szidod egyébként gyönyörű fővárosunkat...

  • From this album Ian's voice becomes more introspective, another face of the artist, particularly in this song...beautiful music...

  • actually he had throat surgery so he couldnt sing like before, but whatever floats your boat

  • GREAT Song by JT. Sounds like Dire Straits at some points!

  • Crest of a knave.Great album i buy it on tape. The 1st of almost all. It´s very good. Can someone tell me what it means in portuguese or spanish. Obrigado. Tull forever...

  • truly amazing, Jethrotull is one of the best

  • I bought the cassette this was on way back in the 80's. The whole album is excellent!

I forget what the lp title was.

  • I love this song... I can't explain why, but I just have to listen to it from time to time.

  • Beautiful song...great lyrically and musically.

  • Ian Anderson's voice sounds a lot like the vocals of Dire Straits.

  • True

  • I believe he had just had throat surgery before this album

  • @IritThePirate right now i wanted to write here '' thumbs up who thinks that he sounds like Mark Knopfler here''

  • @richis404 Ian Anderson was writing and singing songs long before Mark Knopfler came on the scene so,surely it should be that Mark Knopfler sounds like Ian Anderson!

  • @SuperSiemo no no , ian anderson and mark knopfler havent the same voice , its just on this track that ian anderson sounds like mark knopfler , understand what i mean ? its only on this single track, and i know very well that ian wrote and sang over 10 years earlier than mark, but except the flute this song sounds more like dire straits than JT, but im not saying that they wanted to copy them,JT is much more progressive than dire straits so they made this amazing song

  • @IritThePirate <<Yes, I was thinking that then scrolled down and saw your comment. The song reminds me of Romeo and Juliet :)

  • @IritThePirate true true almost confusing ;)

  • @IritThePirate immatation is the greatest flatery

  • @IritThePirate This is the song that could never have been written by Dire Straits...

  • 1989. Tull was even apologetic for receiving the award. Def a different sound for them, yet the same great lyrical stylings. Have you heard Metallicas tribute cover of "Cross Eyed Mary"? Check it out on Youtube...

  • thats actually iron maiden dubbed over metallica clips.

  • my bad, you are correct. Great cover IMO.

  • Our beautiful capital...

  • I want to visit Budapest soon...

  • @Aqualung1989 whats the name of the album ? i will be happy for the answer

  • @richis404 Crest of a Knave

  • @Aqualung1989 thx

  • @richis404" creast of a knave"

  • @PSDDHRTF ....CHEERS FROM BRASIL MATE!!!! LONG LIVE TO EASTERN EUROPE....ONE OF THE BEAUTIFUL PLACES ON EARTH!!!! J . TULL FOREVER!!!!!!

  • While I agree with you 100%, I do remember Jethro Tull winning the best heavy metal band award in 1987 or 1988. I think this was their current album.

    Something wasn't right about that.

I heard they didn't show up to receive the award. :D

  • Yeah, they got the award for Crest of a Knave. Everybody thought Metallica would be awarded in that occasion, but Tull got it instead.

  • Loved what Ian Anderson said about winning the Best Heavy Metal category: "Well, the flute is a heavy, metal instrument."

  • When Metallica did win the Grammy, they went up to do the thank you speech and Lars Ulrich said "We'd especially like to thank Jethro Tull for not releasing an album this year!"

  • Quite possibly one of the most underrated songs (and albums) of all time. Good Choice.

  • really nice.

  • Just what I was waiting for.

    Thanks

  • The best song Dire Straits could never be able to write.

  • hahaha good one.

It's Dire Straits, on anabolic steroids. Oh, and sober.

  • well put my friend. well put!

  • @luismlmestrado WTF come on dont blame Dire Straits ok, this is the only JT song i've ever heared what sounds like Dire Straits and they made many songs over 10 or close to 10 minutes

  • Superb!
