some of the melodies are great, the opening is beautiful and the middle part is neat, with 4:54 being the most gorgeous moment of it all. Too bad that ians singing really suffers on the whole album and well...the lyrics are def. not the best of Ian...
First time I ever heard this song was Jethro Tull themselves playing it live this year. One of the stand out moments of one of the best live performances ever. They really are that good.
I read from time to time on here that music listeners cannot afford to buy albums, lots of albums, because of personal budgets, but man, this is one to have, especially if you like Tull. This one isn't remastered, because I don't think it needs it anyway. Every track is fantastic, and I am not pushing it on behalf of anyone or any music group. it's great. Worth having.
@spoildn8410 I fully agree dude. My father has the vinyl albums for Crest of a Knave, Aqualung, Songs from the Woods, and.. theres to others which slip my mind at the moment. OH! Thick as a Brick, and... damn, just cant get that last one.
Point is, I love these albums, and I fully intend to buy the cd's (or preferably a second copy of the vinyl)... as I gave my father back all of his albums when he moved back home from another province.
@tonibcnn That would 'be people that "just don't get it'". In my 61 yrs. (51 yrs. music nut) , non musician, asked regularly by Pro musicians if I play? My opinion of stuff like Budapest is that this is as good as any music gets!
@Fan666Maiden ...Tull won the grammy for this album ..... Lars complained publicly that Tull wasn't hard rock...... then Metallica won a year or so later....and Lars thanked Tull in his acceptance speech for not putting an album out that year,.......
hahaha , the first time i let this listen to my friend he thought that this is a song from Dire Straits , now i see here that every one is that opinion that it sounds like Mark Knopfler lol , but this is a JT song and it's a great song by them ,too
"Csapataink harcban állnak, a kormány a helyén van. Ezt közlöm az ország népével és a világ közvéleményével." - Nagy Imre, 1956
"Our troops are in battle, but the government is all right. I announce it with the public opinion of the country and the world." - Nagy Imre - 1956. Failed revolution.
@PSDDHRTF This song is actually based on a BEAUTIFUL female Hungarian Olympic runner that Ian and the band met while playing in Budapest during their 1986 European tour. Ian said she was so stunning and tall that he had to write a song about her. I wonder who that girl was?
very goooodddd song, i was looking this song, because some stole my lp, i love the album Crest of a knave (al filo de la navaja) but the true name of the song is One nigth in Budapest,
Thanks !!! Aqualung1989. Mis respetos para ud. Greetings from Perú.
Crest of a knave.Great album i buy it on tape. The 1st of almost all. It´s very good. Can someone tell me what it means in portuguese or spanish. Obrigado. Tull forever...
@richis404 Ian Anderson was writing and singing songs long before Mark Knopfler came on the scene so,surely it should be that Mark Knopfler sounds like Ian Anderson!
@SuperSiemo no no , ian anderson and mark knopfler havent the same voice , its just on this track that ian anderson sounds like mark knopfler , understand what i mean ? its only on this single track, and i know very well that ian wrote and sang over 10 years earlier than mark, but except the flute this song sounds more like dire straits than JT, but im not saying that they wanted to copy them,JT is much more progressive than dire straits so they made this amazing song
1989. Tull was even apologetic for receiving the award. Def a different sound for them, yet the same great lyrical stylings. Have you heard Metallicas tribute cover of "Cross Eyed Mary"? Check it out on Youtube...
When Metallica did win the Grammy, they went up to do the thank you speech and Lars Ulrich said "We'd especially like to thank Jethro Tull for not releasing an album this year!"
@luismlmestrado WTF come on dont blame Dire Straits ok, this is the only JT song i've ever heared what sounds like Dire Straits and they made many songs over 10 or close to 10 minutes
i heard this song live, just epic!

While I agree with you 100%, I do remember Jethro Tull winning the best heavy metal band award in 1987 or 1988. I think this was their current album.
Something wasn't right about that.
I heard they didn't show up to receive the award. :D
ThePipersNicks 3 years ago 3
Yeah, they got the award for Crest of a Knave. Everybody thought Metallica would be awarded in that occasion, but Tull got it instead.
