@lickmetender HoN is a competetive game. The characters have very specific roles. If you do not understand them, people get very frustrated. It's a bitch to get into.

My advice: Play LoL first. Then when you start to get bored and want more intense team-work, go for HoN.

HoN DEMANDS you know how to lane, that you know the difference between support classes/iniators/tanks/carries­. Be a team-player. There's way more microing required too. Like warding and upgrading courier. Stacking creeps etc

From what I know, Dota2 is gonna charge a flat amount for purchasing the game then free2play online, much like HoN. But LoL player base is immensely large that Valve can hardly ignore. To be humbly honest, many LoL players, including me, are already spoiled by many aspects of LoL, if Valve refuses to adapt some of these pros of LoL, Dota2 will only (actually already) scare off the LoL players from giving Dota2 a chance. A similar pricing model would make a huge difference.

What on earth are you talking about? Even if Dota 2 doesn't draw in many new players - such as from LoL, it will still draw in a HUGE fanbase from the existing Dota 1 fanbase. Dota 2 will have tutorials and a coaching system to help new players but it DOESN'T NEED to have NEW players to the genre in order to be successful. Mark my words, Dota 2 doesn't need to compete with LoL as it is on its own tier.

LoL and HoN are fun considering all they do is trying to make the game attractive, flashy, loads of effects and stuff like most MMOs strive to have. DotA focuses on balance so those of you who prefer graphics and stuff would definitely go for LoL and HoN. If all you want is just fun, go to LoL and HoN. Honestly why are you guys talking about all of this stuff that call of duty and all those other kind of games get. It's a "GAME" that shouldn't be hated because the only thing that the game producers ever wanted was people to "PLAY" it. They wanted a sequel to the amazing series. to the dota like gaming to begin with. thus, they may not feel attraction to the Dota2, the legit successor of Dota. I feel the opposite for HoN I think many faithful dota players jumped on to HoN and will be gravitated toward Dota2 once it is released.

SO I DO AGREE with HoN taking hits for Dota2, but I do NOT agree that HoN community is filled with trolls. thats what any dota1 community always looked like. if anything, LoL does not have that many intense players to hit up the community.

HoN, which i recently started playing (waiting for dota2!), does remind me of dota's pace and dynamic. Heroes and items mimic in many parts. better graphic(which idc). as someone who played all three, Dota(7 yrs) Hon (5 months) LoL (1 months), Dota is a masterpiece. the game engine(w3) using is completely melted in Dota, so fun and dynamic. Only reason I stopped playing it is because of lack of public dota servers, terrible W3 Bnet interface for team gaming. graphic was not a problem for me. I liked Dota graphic. LoL i played when it came out. It has slight similarity in game play.

HON will go down... I think this "free to play" attempt is just as about making money as it is attracting new players. While waiting for Dota 2 I would glady rather pay $30 for all the heroes. Now you have to buy most the heroes individually. 10 bucks buys you 2 heroes. S2 will fall soon enough.

There are trolls in any game and there were plenty when I was playing dota. I don't with any harm on S2, hon is a great game I really enjoy it. I do wish they had better numbers. Its is difficult to play matchmaking unless you have a team. I wouldn't ever wish any thing bad on S2 or LoL, I think theres room for all 3. But I really wish hon would have ported all the dota heros in the first place. I'm going to be trying dota2 without a doubt.

Lets get this straight.. LoL, HoN or Dota are the same game with different features, different pace, different feel. HoN seems to be a faster pace game whereas LoL is more enjoyable for people who are into MOBA style game. Dota 2 is going to be similiar to the original Dota mod of Warcraft 3 with new graphics, new heroes, items, etc. . All 3 games are not really competing to rule the MOBA style game genre, but rather, they are for different players.

You can't even COMPARE the two. They've all made strides in differentiating themselves from their competitors. That said HoN is a game made for a competitive scene, which is why it's balanced at higher tier play, has a faster paced metagame, and uses a counter-hero system similar to DotA. LoL devs have said they want their game to be more accessible, and that's why there's a lot less depth at a competitive level. There's nothing wrong with that, but the nerd rivalry needs to stop there.

just going to sort this out right now because you're being a bit bias towards LoL. both communities are shit, you won't want to play either of them if all you do is solo queue because they really shine when you have friends playing with you. despite that, I HAVE seen more cooperative players in HoN and tons of people actually use voice chat to communicate with eachother. HoN is less popular because it was b2p and had a much steeper learning curve, LoL has a ton more because it was initially f2p

@Idrinkpisseveryday Not exactly, because microtransactions are more proffitable in the long run and bring in way more players. if 100 ppl buy the game for say.. 30 bucks thats 3000 in LoL a skin is ~$5 so they need to sell 601 skins to those 100 people over the lifetime of the game to turn a higher profit. thats just skins, bundles are like $15 and take into account that they'd have more players, if it goes F2P the game would have a higher budget, thus improving the game.
