@somethinglacking1 Not really. In fact Samwise is the original name in English. In Spain his name is Samsagaz Gamyi (in Spanish sagaz = listo/inteligente, that's wise on English).
I'm pretty sure most people think Gandalf's death was the most powerful scene of this movie... But this is the scene that makes me want to burst into tears. "Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee..." GAAAHHH. <3 :')
@frizzletot Yes, but doesn't the ring kind of have an influence on Frodo? The ring wants to be found, so doesn't it have an influence on how Frodo thinks? I would imagine the ring knows Gollum is a better choice than Sam because Sam is out to destroy the ring, while Gollum does not.
Peter Jackson, Howard shore , and many many other wonderful people joined forces and put together the most beautiful scene in a movie ever. Well done. Makes me cry every single time. :)
He made the promise to Gandalf right? Boy is his face going to be red when he realizes Gandalf wasn't even dead lol. But really touching scene. Damn watery eyes!
This is what an epic is. This is what emotion is. This is what a truly great legend is. If I could, I would strap every obsessive twilight fangirl into one of those chairs from A Clockwork Orange and force feed all three extended versions of LOTR into their brains.
I'm watching the dvd now and I just decided to Google "don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee" and then I found this video. I may be a 24 year old man, but this stuff still brings a tear to my eye. True friendship is a powerful thing.
This is where you fall in love with Sam. The Heart of a Lion. Such a beautiful character. The final line of "Return of the King", after Sam has lived his life and goes off to find Frodo, is the only time reading a book actually made me cry.
This scene is so touching. I felt like crying. I love this movie, but ive only seen half of it. I thing Sam AND Frodo are cute and very nice. I almost cried when i saw this. When i first saw it, i thought Sam would drown because Frodo was too late but he saved him!!!!
Did you know that when they first shot this scene,Sean Astin (sam) ran on the sand and stepped on a shard of glass that went right through his foot?He kept running to the water until they called cut and he turned around and was crying so the brought him on the beach and it was bleeding everywhere and Elijah was like(Oh man!Oh man!)and he had to get his foot sewn up and he was back filming that day.Thats dedication.Split your foot open, and keep running in the water just so you dont ruin the shot
When you think about it, if this scene did't happen, or say if Sam were just a minute or so later, then the entire fate of middle earth would not have any hope at all, and the lord of the rings would have ended in either the fog ridden rocks beyond the river, or in shelobs lair, and middle earth would be middle hell.
It truely are one of my favorite scenes, as many others here I see. I dont really know why, but I love everything they say here. Even "You cant swim!" .. No idea, its just .. yeah.
this scene gets so powerful right around :59.. thats when frodo's hand grabs sam and you hear the orchestra strings come into the music when he pulls him out! so epic!!
first lesson on swimming...try, joking, this is a great scene, it shows sams loyalty to frodo, as so does the motivational speech in the second film, sam is one of my favorites.
What I woudn't give to have a true friend like that . Samwise Gamgee really puts to shame all those people that I call 'friends'. I don't think I have friend like that at all except for my own dear mother.
This scene defines the meaning of true friendship... "I made a promise, Mr Frodo... don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee... and I don't mean to... I don't mean to..." *sniffle*
Isn't it just? It makes me feel happy for Frodo because he has such a loyal friend like Samwise Gamgee... "I made a promise, Mr Frodo... a promise... 'Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee'... and I don't mean to... I don't mean to..."
I LOVE sam!!! ''I'm coming with you!!!!"

its funny that frodo thought it a better idea to trust a demented cave dwelling monster over sam, that's some poor judgement if i've ever seen it
