  • I guess there's a reason they call it the Forbidden Forest.

  • Absolutely wonderful. I played this game to death in the 1980s and always loved the "happy dance" at the end of each scene. Excellent music too. It used to scare me to death this game. Very good and friendly commentary too which doesn't detract from what's going on on screen. Thank you.

  • I loved the game and the music.

  • Excellent. Thanks for posting.

  • Just remembered the music of this game out of the blue and came seeking for a video, heh. You don't remember the music of Forbidden Forest, ever.

  • One of the most terrifying games I've played.

  • ROFL you're a boyscout. You don't get to fight back if something with a sharpened stick decides to raip your eyes out.

  • Undisputedly one of the greatest c64 games ever =).

  • haha awesome, i played this diehard, i remember it dint always wanted to start up, but when it did i was dancing just like him in the livingroom.

  • I had this victory music going through my mind from over 20 years ago!

Then, I googled this and found this video!!!

My and my buddy played this when we were 12.

    Thank you!

  • The dude doing the commentary sorta sounds like Devin Townsend to me for some reason. Just sayin'!

  • I need that winning song so bad.

  • If the problem you're having with Beyond Forbidden Forest (The sequel) is that you can only run around without nothing happening, you need to press F7 for the game to actually begin.

  • This game was epic for its time, sadly i played this instead of actually using my youth.

  • 4:25 Run Forest RUUUUNNNNN!!!

    LOL

  • 6 people were never kids.

  • I used to think this game was soo epic, i had it on cassete drive, took forever to load it. It kinda creeped me out when i was little, surprisingly I think i beat it cuz I've seen all the lvls. Seems sooo short compared to back then.

  • this was one of my first 10 games on c64. it was number 3 on the tape(!). no.1 was Blue Max, no.2 was Zaxxon, no.4 aztec challenge and so on... i love all the classics! :D

thx 4 sharing! brought back creepy memories!^^ (the sound when you got killed freaked me out...over and over again!)

  • First Survival Horror Game of history

  • This game used to scare the crap out of me! @_@

  • You know what's also cool.

At the time, we were all kids playing this game, isolated from the rest of the world, quite oblivious to all the other kids who were playing it at the same time.

And here you all are. :)

A zillion years later, connecting through a mutual experience.

  • Aren't games these days made by one guy in his pajamas, sitting in his bedroom - munching on junk food, anymore then?

  • wow that ghost wail is going to haunt me for awhile, just so annoying and yet horrifying

  • I don't remember the snake in the version i played when i was young.

Are there version differences with/without snake?

  • The graphics look weird even for that time standards.

  • now this one was good...

  • Ahh this brings back memories... I used to play this when I was a young lad. You're really good at it, kudos to you!

  • The Longest scream ever

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Blimey, watching that takes me back.

The archer dance is possibly the coolest moment in video game history btw!

  • Just downloaded this for the c64 emulator. Awesome game, i wish there were more to it, I haven't played it in about 20 years and beat it tonight in about 10 minutes. LOL

  • the best game ........THX

  • OMFG THIS BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!!!!

  • BOOM HEADSHOT

  • Coole Graphik. Das schlägt "Final Fantasy XIII" ja um Längen. :-)

  • Das waren noch Zeiten! Das Spiel hat mich damals gefesselt.....

  • Perfect. Nice tutorial :-)

    5/5

  • It's really cool to hear your comments while seeing you going through the game!! Thanks! :)

  • awesome this music takes me back! thnx for uploading

  • haxxorz! How are you shooting without having to LOAD THE ARROW?!?!

  • Thanks for posting this. Took me forever to finally pull up a google search for it, and once I had the name, low and behold your video! I was too young to remember it clearly, but I loved it even though it scared the shit out of me as a kid and I had to have my brother play it for me. Good times, and I can remember it in its full glory! Thanks!

  • fantastic ! My childhood ! C64 i love u !

  • Never had this game when I was a kid but I found it and 10 other games in a second hand shop that was going out of buisness for about five dollars

  • The Demogorgon freaked me out as a kid. You couldn't really see him clearly, you just knew he was coming for you.

I played this via the C64 cassette drive. FF, Telengard, and Jumpman were my favorite games.

  • oh my god, I'm through a time door... I'm back into puberty!!

  • 2:59, Burninated!

  • I remember that 6 minute cassette load!! I would just copy it to disc since it had no copy protection.

  • this game was tough as nails. good video

  • my first game ever played on the c64...allmost brings tears to my eyes;)...note to self! get the music as a ringtone

  • cool music :)

  • Ha ha, playing on easy level and with arrow cheat. Try something like hard level and no cheats, then we'll talk.

  • Strange, the version I played actually required you to rearm your bow after every shot, but you have unlimited shots..

  • You probably played the Atari 800 version

  • I doubt it, since it was on an actual C64 about 20 years ago :-) Also, the version that I had did not have the purple snake.. So I guess there are different versions of the game..

  • I used to love this game back in the 80:s, please upload a version without the talking!

  • XD The victory dance is so freaking awesome.

  • I think i can help you play the 2nd one.

To aim you have to use up and down. To shoot you have to hold the fire button and you then hit release to attack. When you get 4 golden arrows you go to the underworld to fight the Hydra, and finally, the Demogorgon. He doesn't do that flash thing. Hes in a huge hole and shoot fireballs at you.

  • forget soulja boy, bring back the archer dance! O_O

  • I still like how a demon who hides under darkness apparently bleeds rave lighting.

  • one of the best commodore 64 games.blew me away at the time.with its freaked out violence and sinister atmosphere.

  • 1:00 that is a very good and believable theory at least

  • Don't use the arrows cheat!!

Excellent game, one of the best.

  • God, the victory dance takes like 10 years :p

  • the music together with his dance reminds me of power rangers.

  • The moon....there's a face on it!

  • I used to play this at my mates but he only had a black and white TV so when you got to the piranha section you couldn't actually see the piranhas. We screwed around with the brightness and contrast for ages and still couldn't see them.

  • Oops, my mistake, I'm actually thinking about Aztec Challenge.

  • I hate the banshee's Wail..

  • Real men pack bows. Anyone can kill with a gun. A bow takes skill to get the thrill of the kill. That fricking giant snake certainly doesn't look like such hot tamales when it's crumpled up and bleeding vino all the over the fricking place, eh?

  • the music at the time of level change rocks!!!

  • Wow, the last fight is kinda creepy.

  • that victory music is awesome!! im gonna have it stuck in my head 4 days....

  • You figured out how to play the sequel yet? I can't figure it out either and the longplay of the game doesn't exactly help

  • Was there a man with a mustache in the moon..?

  • It moves during a victory dance!

  • Loved this game, and the music was awesome.Still play it now and again on the emulator. The skeletons were the hardest for me .Thanks for posting.

    in my opinion

  • Now do it without the no-reload cheat. Not being to move while you're loading an arrow is half of the difficulty. :p

  • @Eidako ^ *able to move*

  • I use to play this at my cousins house. He had this on a freaking tape. Classic!

  • Nice!

  • Wow thats pretty awesome for back then, unfortunately my first console was the NES so I never really got to play this =/

  • Yeah, I never got any good at it until recently, but it's an awesome game for the time. I was just a tad too little for something that requires the accuracy this one does when it was still new.

  • @expotemkin You missed out on so many great C64 and early PC games then! I feel sorry for you!

  • @expotemkin You missed out on SOOOOOO much!!!

  • @HardWarUK Im catching up recently. I bought a lot of old consoles to sort of "replay the glory of the old days"

  • @expotemkin Yes, but did that include a Commodore 64 computer and do you have a PC and DOSBox?! If all you got was consoles, you are STILL missing out on a lot! :) In fact so many retro consoles (and C64) can be emulated on a PC, that would have been enough for all of them probably! :)

  • @HardWarUK True, you can emulate a lot of them to have better graphics, but it feels more authentic to beat it on the actual cartridge. Then someone can't argue you were using emulation tools or save states.
