Not too sure why you say that. I'm 18 years old, I lift, and I eat a lot as well. I'm not trying to be braggy, but I have a beautiful body. Working out at ages 17+ is a great head start for that beautiful new look. As long as the person is doing the exercises correctly, weight he/she can handle, and eating healthy, then its not a problem. :)
Not true at all..both are great exercises. If anything, you can hurt yourself during a pull up, as you cant adjust the weight. Its all your bodyweight or nothing..and that can cause injuries if you arent properly warmed up
I find pulling exercises to be a lot less prone to causing injuries. And if you can't pull up your bodyweight than you just can't. If someone would be an idiot and try some of the stuff that expertvillage is posting about stepping up and then lowering yourself slowly, now that's an injury waiting to happen.
I agree retardno002. Although for a more experienced lifter...stepping up and lowering slowly is a way to work the negative of the exercise...which is proven to put a lot of stress on the muscle and build it more quickly. But of course, it's not as simple as just doing that without considering the rest of the workout. With all respect to them...I steer clear of most of ExpertVillage videos! lol
Its good, but obviously you need to work on your traps, cause they aren't there at all. It seems like you have trained the front of your shoulders alot, but you should remember the back of them, Military and dumbbell press isn't enough
shit. i didnt even know those muscles under your arms on the back of your shoulders could get that big. lol. i seriously have no clue what those muscles would be called anyway.
I would recommend doing pulldowns "with various grips" but after pullups. Pick one grip each time you work your back and rotate them like that. I have done 55 marine corp pullups at a body weight of 175 and currently do sets of 12 at 285lbs but I still do pulldowns and DB rows because they all help you bench and deadlift more and help your back hold more weight in the squat. They also give you bigger biceps and a great grip. Keep lifting.
That explanation is too vague for me, can you actually set example of different grips? You mean different width apart from shoulders, because i just use my chin up bar.
he means alternating between different grip widths when doing either pullups or lat pull downs because it stimulates the growth of your lats more efficiently.
when i first started i couldn't eveb do 1 pullup with good form, five months later i could do 8-9 with good form and can do 10 reps @ 150lbs on the machine.
Because with pulldowns you place your biceps in their weakest positition and train your back with a very short range of motion. With chin-ups, palms up you place your biceps in their strongest positisjon, which enables you to lift more weight and you train your back with a much longer range of motions. Everyone should only do chin-ups

With chin-ups, palms up you place your biceps in their strongest positisjon, which enables you to lift more weight and you train your back with a much longer range of motions. but this exercise is specifically for ur lats, it also hits ur posterior deltoids, romboids, yes biceps too, but its not the main focus. wide grip chin-ups also get these muscles, u cant really say EVERYONE should ONLY do chin-ups. lol :) x
No matter how you do pull-movements, the biceps will get the most training. Biceps is the weakest link when doing pull-movements, and if you place them in a weak position, like the pull-downs, you cant train your back with maximal effort ether. Besides, pull-downs its like 1/3 of the movement of chin-ups - so why do it?
dorian yates favours close grips pulling movements and he has one of the biggest lats ever,if you want both width and thickness do barbell rows, lose the fucking pulldowns
Indeed. Chin-ups and pull-ups combinations would work it much better. The first one, mostly.
I agree with you man. Been working out with pull-downs for some months now, and to be honest, you don't really get any 'usable' strength out of it. All you're good for is: doing pull-downs. I'm changing to chin-ups and have been developing all the lower and upper back together. Much harder... but waaaaaaay better!

Why is the top comment for this video say he's gay?? How?
I'm gay for watching it for sure but a young fella doing exercises isn't gay! People are stupid, and I'd rather be gay than stupid any day!

keep your back straight(don't lean back like that), perfect form is more important over the number of reps you do.
Zv3ruga 1 year ago
wow... who the hell taught you to keep your back straight? You are supposed to lean back a little bit. You should not be giving form advice
judastefarianist 1 year ago
if you lean back thats bad form, look up, pull it down to your chest !!!
lespaul457 1 year ago
@lespaul457 Umm, looking up and pulling it down to your chest REQUIRES leaning back a little bit.

Sitting straight up really doesnt work much. Mainly biceps actually and this isnt a bicep workout. Lean back to use lats snd upper back

@Tim9666
I disagree. Could you give me at least one plausible reason for your statement?
retardno002 2 years ago
Yeah lifting 80 kilos (or more) 4 times a week isnt the best thing for such young bones but its defenetly not wrong.
I just said its not healthy.
Tim9666 1 year ago
@Tim9666
Yes lifting is not good but pushing and pulling your own body weight is perfectly safe and healthy.
retardno002 1 year ago
You are completely wrong...very uneducated statement you make, and you don't back it up with a reason.

is the position correct ? whats the difference when you sit straight up
muhmuhmuh38 2 years ago
if you sit up it concentrates it on your lats, if you lean back it works on your back too.
mattymx21 2 years ago
So why not concentrate on lats with this, then back with a row?

Yes that position is correct. When you lean back, it works your back more.

why not LOL *yawn*
nymphette7 4 years ago
the main reason you would do wide grip is to target the middle back... something you cant do with normal grip pullups/chinnups/pulldowns.
it comes from the whole theory of wide grips work inner, and narrow grips work outer
jacktennis15 4 years ago
very well said, could not have said it better myself :) xxx
