I want you, and I want you to want me to want you But I don't need you Don't need you to need me to need you That's just me So take me or leave me But please don't need me Don't need me to need you to need me Cos we're here one minute, the next we're dead So love me and leave me But try not to need me Enough said I want you, but I don't need you
@ErikkChattman guess it sucks for you that the amanda palmer version wouldn't exist if it weren't for this version, seeing as her version is a cover of this, huh?
I just broke up with my boyfriend because of this. I loved him, but I didn't NEED him. And he sure as hell couldn't function without me. Too much for one person. Two people in a relationship, equality, all that jazz.
I have to say that this song is about the most meaningful expression of love I've ever heard. WANT is a wonderful giving emotion. It denotes CHOICE. I CHOOSE you from all the other billions of people. NEED is a demand for need in return. It suggests that even if you're bad for me, I have to be with you. You hurt me and I still need you. If I had listened to this when I was young and truly understood it, my life would have been far different. Wonderful.
@hagbardpork I am still young and this song expresses the opinion I have always had about relationships. However it dosnt make the end of one any easier.
Ooh... I'd never heard of Momus until I saw Amanda Palmer's version of this song (don't bash me for coming from there, just how it happened), but I really like this! Excuse me while I go on a googling rampage...
Ive been an Amanda Palmer fan for five years now. Ive been a Momus fan for a year now. And yet it wasnt untill i found the clash of Amanda and Momus i was directed by this great song of Momus. It summed up a point of thing happening when i first heard this. Amazeing song an as allways very deep.
i personally love amanda but i do like this version better. i dont think she did it just for controversy, i think she just covered a rather amazing song.
I think i like this original better then Amandas, but not by much. His is more . . . i dont know how to say it, it feels smoother and more natural, you know? Amandas SOUNDS like its coming from a fan, not from the source, but i mean that in the best way. Pitting them against each other is making people look stupid.
@dudevincentman she said she did it because shes a fan of the man who made this, and in doing so introduced me into him. She doesnt 'act like its hers', shes just covering a song she appreciates like many other artists do, whats wrong with that?

@FrumpyLumpyLump You're an arsing cretin with all the intelligence of a kumquat. Ms Palmer is a tiresome fuckwit who took one track by a man who is a fucking fucking fucking genius and allowed silly little plebs like yourself to hear the words of a man you would otherwise never have had the intelligence to stumble upon.
Palmer's 'Oooh, I've said the F word' performance is so infantile it makes me want to rip my ears off.
@theghostofchristmasp you clearly dont know what youre talking about; you should quit while youre not ahead. She appreciates the same music you do for the same reasons, she didnt do it for the 'controversial curse word'.
@FrumpyLumpyLump ohh come on. don't come over here to hate on the original. i honestly love both and both versions have something different to offer. don't be childish.
@graydj Agreed, but I think the real travesty is that I'd never heard of Momus until a few minutes ago, people have to talk about about the music they like!
@ace6255 Exactly, i hadn't heard of Momus till pretty much the same time as you, and i think he's brilliant. But i would never have heard this or his others without that Amanda Palmer clip. Im gona try and spread the word
@graydj I think hers is better personally. She just knows how to get the word out better I suppose. =P But it seems a lot of people are checking him out because of her. =P So that's a good thing, right?
@graydj haha i guess it is kind of, isnt it? But you cant deny that her appreciation of him has led people like myself to him, so who knows, maybe he wouldnt even 12,000 if it werent for her. I say they both are wonderful!
for you baby.. χαχαχαχα

Covering =/= plagiarism. Nothing is sacred.
Now shut the fuck up and actually listen to the music or go watch something else.

Amanda's version is WAAAYYYYY better. She made it sexy and fun. This is kind of goofy and reminds me of the circus.

Travesty that Momus only has 12,000 views when Amanda Palmer has ~400,000. He wrote the bloody song and does it heaps better than her!
