Piangero la sorte mia, si crudele e tanto ria, finche vita in petto avro. Ma poi morta d'ogn'intorno il tiranno e notte e giorno fatta spettro agitero
This is a killer aria to try and sing..I'm working on it for my senior recital and the B section run is hard and she takes it at a neck breaking speed..good for her
This is actually from Handel's "Guilio Cesare" and the character who sings this is Cleopatra after being imprisoned...there is no sorceress involved in this particular Handel opera ;)
I adore this aria - check mine out - I love singing it, but to a mobile phone in front room doesn't have the same effect! She has a lovely voice of course, and well sung, probably can't beat it.
she was imprisoned by her brother tolomeo and she is weeping her cruel fate, and then becomes mad, like crazy and swears to come after she's dead to fraighten his sick bother as a ghost. this wont be necessary since giulio cesare frees her,, and then she sings a great aria called da tempeste
my favorite aria from Cesare... but the premise for this video is very weird. I get it's some NZ production... I guess 50 minutes is easier to swing than a 3 hour opera.
will never understand that "without feeling" about her. For what I've seen so far it appears to me that she put and heart and soul in her performances; and this is just beautifully interpreted ;)
Sencillamente: ¡MARAVILLOSO!!!

i like Kiri Te Kanawa a lot but I found this interpretation so so... although it shows her great musicality and her perfect technic.

Kiri found her best, most dramatically commited free spirited singing in her 50's. That's the ideal career culmination for a soprano.

Is it just me or is the accompaniment too loud?

Yes, but this production is actually called "The Sorceress" - a Handel celebration... several arias from several operas.

Leontyne Price's version, made at age 51, is well worth comparing.

te kanawa was 50.

I love how the fast section just goes like hell! Pardon the expression but it is incredibly impressive.

Almost as good as Dame Joan.

It's very beautiful! I don't thinks it's in the right key though, it may be a half step lower. Still very beautiful.
Kdawg080786 4 years ago
it's likely in Baroque pitch which sounds a half step lower
beautiful rendition but i'd like to know whats up with the weird intro (in my score theres a recit then goes straight into the aria)

For those who says Dame Kiri sings without feeling- this can't be more the opposite- bellisima!!!

me neither- calling her 'dreary' is like calling sutherland singing with diction.

Really manifique!
I have big question: Could you post "Dall'empia Dite" from this production??
PLEASE! This is best Handel aria ever!

This interpretarion is really amazing. In fact, all this work called THE SORCERESS is great. No one like Dame Kiri.

That's true. I like Damrau, Dessay is not on my top list and Masterson was great also
