There is no digital method which cannot be hacked. Recording the bits directly from the graphics and sound card as they play would get past any method in one fowl swoop, even if they develop a new media format it wont be long to develop a converter. It is a waste of money trying to develop copy protection stuff to prevent sharing. Only a fundamental change in how computers work might do it. i.e. Quantum computing where copying a bit removes that bit through entanglement. This is some way off.
have you thought of getting a projector and hooking it up to your mac? The projector costs a grand but can produce as big an image as you can make in your room (for me that's 112") so I already watch downloads and dvds on my wall. Great stuff...
I'm looking forward to electronic paper... imagine having your rooms coated in it, then it could be different wallpaper every day. Or a big tv!
i think that one of the major problems is revenue-all tv providers are desperately trying to make us pay cash for internet programes-this just isnt going to work-napster may have been forced to charge but torrent availability has mocked that lengthy court case.
Hmm, it is indeed a very exciting for computing, this year. But face it, by the time the end of the year comes around and you honour your Making Do pledge, there'll be something even more powerful and even more amazing for you to spend your money on in 2008. Guilt-free pleasure coming soon, Rob!
fair point saraspoon BUT these days i am finding the trade off between video quality and content quality is worth it online, literally chosing what i want to watch suits me just fine!-it just comes at a price of compremised picture quality for the time being.
10 yrs ago, we were all on 1400 baud dial-up 1400 baud. Now, I've got unlimited 8mbps broadband. 10 years from now, streaming HD Video will (nearly?) be the norm. I have no idea what it will be called by the marketing people, but it WILL happen.
Remember, the gaming fraternity drive a lot of this - faster graphics processors for example, they're not going to stop wanting more immersive technology and the rest will come along with it.
HA! That's what I do, wearing black inthe shadows of the back, but of the stage, not the back of the TV set. My pet hate too, DRM and all the device specific content stopping me enjoying it. By the way, you can get a basic cable to run from your Computer to TV, either HD or DVI or sVideo or scart. Just depends how far you wanna stretch...
This is very peculiar, because I'm about to write a report/presentation on the increase of U.G.C (and citizen journalism, etc) for Uni! Fascinating stuff.
Exciting times for broadcast media. My partner and I have noticed since becoming 'YouTubers' that we have gone from watching tens of hours of TV to almost nil in preference to watching YouTube..and you are right, as soon as you can get that content to TV screen and watch in comfort..wow. There is so much undiscovered talent on YouTube and other sites that this opens the gateway for greater diversity that is consumer and not media led.
I couldn't agree more with this comment. Since I discovered youtube I hardly ever watch TV now because I don't like soaps/quizes/reality, and the rest is mostly repeats.

Before the Computer videos can come to the Tv something has to be done about the quality of the clips.
At least if one should watch Youtube on Tv. Otherwise ones eyes would hurt alot.

That will happen naturally anyway, Saraspoon.
