sorry. As I Lay Dying from US is a metalcore band. As I Lay Dying from Austria is Melodic Doom/Death Metal. Tiamat is gothic yes.

If I had heard this version before knowing Agalloch I wouldn't get interested in the band. This is just standard, good but not exceptional (despite poor sound quality) and the CD version is outstanding. Oh, and thanks for mentioning some other bands cause I'm quite green in post-rock and dark metal.

Um, similar bands? How about Ulver, Agalloch's main influence, note: the older Ulver, the new sounds different. Other bands I would list would be, yes, Neurosis, as well as Pelican, and Isis. Opeth as well, somewhat, though you said not to list them. Anyway, hope that helps a bit.

Velnias . . . Clad In Darkness . . . Death In June (though that's not metal), some Ulver . . . argh. I know people who could give you more. Those are fairly loose, the first two are probably simultaneously the closest and most obscure.

There is no reverbe effect, there is no backing vocal... It's really hard in this condition to product the same vocals sonorities in lives prestations.

Try singing in front of an audience in a different place every night with a different sound system, different acoustics, different "sound engineer", etc. before commenting on vocal quality. If you can't hear the music clearly, it's very difficult to sing in tune. Plus this was recorded on a cell phone, most likely. Keep it in perspective.

Definitely one of the best songs by Agalloch. "In the Shadow" is absolutely incredible. Mellow to loud, back to mellow. Amazing band.
