Maybe they should do this in Melbourne. Thing is on our trains if you force the door open the train stops so you end up like sardines :( I use the train a lot when I am in CT it is no worse than the trains in Australia
Those who find the way we live in South Africa cause for laughter, well, get real, and find out how many people are struggling to live a decent life. Take the next train? And be fired because you arrive at work too late? How about swopping your life with someone who is having such a hard time, doing whatever is possible to care for their families? Do it for a week and then see what you have to say!
It's VERY unpatriotic of you to speak of your own country and country men like this. Making an imbecile of a video to try to discourage those who want to come to the world cup (which will bring lots of revenue to S.A.) is counterproductive and insensitive of you. Grow up. And if you don't like taking that train because of the "train surfers", did you ever consider changing your route to and from work? Just an idea......
Definitely not train surfing, just overcrowding. The trains are very frequent at that time, but most of them are full. First class you will never have to hang outside the doors by the way, that is 3rd class.
Those trains really aren't that bad and I can;t understand why if you take that train to work everyday you make those stupid comments in the video? You know that no tourist will be on 3rd class and that matches/travel generally aren't in peak times
Nice motor sounds from the old MUs.But l don't think those people are surfing for the enjoyment somehow! The railway needs to run more trains, but lack of coaches, crews,or signalling and track capacity could well be buggering those ideas up!
Are those the 'dangerous' trains in Cape Town I keep hearing about? When I stayed there with my friend and his family, his mom was commenting on how to avoid taking the trains as they 'rob like mad' on there and have cases of people cutting off a finger just to get a ring.
She's lived there her whole life and isn't overly negative about the country/loves Cape Town despite it's crime problems, so....hmm.
Just use MetroRail for 3 weeks. In that time you'll have had at least one 30-minute delay, at least 5 situations of being SQUISHED like a sardine and if you're unlucky, someone trying to steal something from you.
South Africa needs to invest in it's rail transport to increase capacity. That's ridiculous to have trains so full people are standing on them. I know you guys have modern freeways, why can't you spend a bit on trains?
that does not represent cape town, hire a car or cab . the southern suburbs unfortunately is over populated with poor people taht can only afford trains to go to work in factories for a living , by the sound of your accent you sound like you dont know the reason why that train is so packed and its important for then to earn , if they had a choice : no one wants to do that . and surfing is when you ontop on the train. .. when i see that i dont make fun, i think my family is in that train daily.
your world cup line made me lag, it'll be pretty funny when our brand spanking new Gautrain ends up being used like that...cant wait
Its funny how nearly every single video on youtube about SA gets turned into something racial by sum upity tit...c'mon man its a bloody overcrowded train, nothing more!
haha thats not train surfing dude. train surfing is very different. and its things like the fifa world cup that are gonna make our country a better place for many years after 2010
I'm from Cape Town, currently living in Australia. If you're going to be in SA during the world cup I strongly recommend hiring a car, as the train 'services' are so far behind the rest of the world it's shocking. Fortunately the freeway system is very good and in off-peak hours you can get anywhere in Cape Town in less than 20 minutes so traveling by road is the best way to go.
IM never gonna buy a box of deary milk ever again. I never knew how much chocolate was packed into one box.

Doors closing when baby pram is on the train as FEMALE train driver looks on is the ugliest thing I have ever experienced by Cape Town metrorail.

I took the train a lot. I felt much safer in 3rd class than in 1st. Most people are just trying to get home.

Funny you should attack me like that. I take that train to work every day too.
What bothers me is that they cram onto that train even when they see it is full. Wait for the next one FFS, that is what I do.
P.S. The train surfing is a joke, I am well aware this this is not real train surfing.

They do exactly the same thing in India, Brazil, Pakistan and even in Japan. Reality of living in a developing country buddy.
