I tried to post this video to some facebook folk and it comes up expired. I have friends in Eldoret who went through the recent election massacres. While we were trying to get money to them for food, safe passage to safety etc. People came through with funding like lightning because of the urgency of the situation. A lot of "how much do I really need? went on. This video does the same thing, I don't think it should expire

The only way we can make a difference is to live sustainably and boycott things that are not. It's not easy but it's worth a try.

Also just wondering how are starving africans even able to reproduce. I have a friend who was once anorexic(don't know if i spelled that right) and she never menstrated until years after recovery. Her body was starving and she was not fertile. Just wondering.

They charge so much for movie film because they can, they charge so much for tickets because they can. The cost of something is determined by the desire of the person who purchases that item and by the availability of it. Last time I checked there was no shortage of movie theaters in America, there is no shortage of people who do not want to have a real job and can pretend to be someone they are not. This is indeed excess. Though there may be other industries that waste the same or a larger amount of money, and there are, this doesn't change the fact that actors get paid a ridiculous amount of money to pretend to be someone else. I can remember half of the dialog after viewing a movie once. Should I get paid half a million dollars when I quote the movie and my friends laugh? It is just another industry where the spending is far far greater than it actually costs. (continued)

I don't think she's "attacking" anyone. I think she was just making a point. And I personally don't question her decision at all to give the money to starving, sick people in Africa and India. Her middle class video editors can survive without the temporary salary this video might've made.

I do question her economics however, one line in the song says something like: "fortune in one land means less for some". I would just say that economic growth doesn't necessarily mean less money for someone else.  The most prosperous places are the ones where a free market economy and entrepreneurship, along with free elections are the rule.

Though I agree with you (br4indr4ln) that the artists are also accountable, I'm not sure that she is actually "attacking" anyone. She is just making a point that a lot of money is spent needlessly on such entertainment. I'm glad she donated it. It makes more of a difference when artists put their own principles and values to measure rather than just talking about them.

Her heart is in the right place. But, most of the people who work on videos work their asses off for their pay. If she really wanted to make a change she should show how the music studios make 5000% profit and give hardly anything back. Or how popular music stars make millions a year and give hardly anything back.  Attacking the people who actually do the work on videos isn't intirely fair.

As well, I'm sure the video producers and assistants wouldn't of agreed to work on this video if they were so against the this message this video illustrates. That "needless" film processor or make up artist's wage supports themselves, their families, individuals that make the products they buy, and thru taxes the government and its services that we count on. If you take away their wage then they become the very homeless and the hungry that you seek to help.

Your argumente makes sense but you must also understand that sometimes there is excess in our culture, and that if we would cut back just a little, and divert some of that to those who are in need, it would improve not only their lives but ours as well by stimulating economic development throughout the world.
