Not only was Sadler's Wells an incredible competitor on the racetrack. But there's no doubt he's also the most influential turf sires ever in the history of this sport. What he's passed on to the Coolmore breeding program alone is incredible. Having sired Montjeu, High Chaparral, and the mighty Galileo. Who, without question in my mind, has himself now become the top stallion in the breeding industry to date. He just keeps on siring stakes winner after stakes winner.
wow its been that long sadler's wells stil going strong at stud the best sire of sires in the world maybe some agree with me some dont we all have opinions.glad to see his sire sons do so well at stud and there proginy
I miss the racing at "The Park "...1984 was the year they reopened it after renovations . I loved going up there . The Friday night /Saturday double meetings were great. The old parade ring at the entrance was beautiful with the red roses and seat surrounding it . The red house you see at the end of the race is now in ruins .Shame on the builders who own the place now . Great memories of Piggott, Eddery and Carson at "The park "
enjoyed reading your comments on the phoenix park racecourse....many of my childhood memories are there too....it was a mystical place...an atmosphere we,ll never find anywhere in racing
i was at coolmore stud 2 years ago & had the privelage of seeing him.such a small horse but had amazing speed.the greatest stallion ever.he built coolmore on his own & is one of the reasons why irish flat racing is so stong.Sadlers wells thank you & enjoy a happy retirement
aidanbizkitman, I could not have spoken better words myself. I may only be 17, but without this horse I realise that my Derby experience last year would have been alot less pleasureable without this fella around to produce maybe half the field? lol
a better compliment couldnt be said ,i saw the little horse in the flesh when he won the eclipse in 1984 as i worked for jeremy tree at the time,he wasnt the best horse around but boy did he have guts,a fantastic
stallion just like his dad,i hope he enjoys a few more years of retirement..LEGEND
its funny the how high head carriage is evident in all his offspring.are they absolutley genuine? or could they maybe be holding a tiny bit back? if this is the case, then they really are a special breed!
It was a very unusual racetrack, but a very pleasant place to be on a sunny summer's day with good horses running.
In the old days, some races would go behind the stands, and the finishing straight was more or less towards the stands. Which was OK if you liked a head-on view.
"The Park " would have been ideal for our first floodlit track in Ireland ...nice and compact and close to the city ..Floodlit racing + hotels etc, would have been perfect.
couldn't agree more about Phoenix Park; my first visit to Dublin was in 89 and I had to go there, just to try and get a sense of the place. Very atmospheric, full of history. Only wish I'd managed to get there in time... still, this is what YouTube is for. Thanks for posting it.
Mind you, I suppose I'd've run that fast if I knew what the prize was...

@ryanair737800 I remember Triptych winning that race in 87. Loved the track, an awful shame it closed and worse what's happened to it since.

Sadler's Wells beat Flame of Tara in this race. They came together and produced the great Salsabil in '87.

An absolute disgrace that the Phoenix Park was allowed to turned into a housing estate.
All those billionaires asscoiated with Irish horse racing and they allowed this to happen.
Yet The Curragh continues and that place is desperate.
